*whispers* that's not the hound

gbx, Tuesday, 15 August 2017 03:47 (six years ago) link

yeah, the hound is the really blurry face just next to the really blurry face in the back

Karl Malone, Tuesday, 15 August 2017 03:47 (six years ago) link

the hound has the fire stat!

gbx, Tuesday, 15 August 2017 03:48 (six years ago) link

Stoop Crone (Trayce), Tuesday, 15 August 2017 03:50 (six years ago) link

+ 65% blurry means +65% stealth

Am I right in thinking that everyone going North of the Wall has had some kind of death based or supernatural experience except the ginger Wildling dude?

In the book Mr. Wildling talks about an escapade with a bear.

Leee Media Naranja (Leee), Tuesday, 15 August 2017 04:51 (six years ago) link

the most nutso fun plot scenario is for one of the 7 samurai to be wightified (Jorah most likely) then, when brought to show the queen(s), for one of them (Cersei) to be wightified herself.

Night Queen; you heard it here first.

i don't think there's enough time for much in the way of machinations and loyalty-switching at this stage of the game, it seems to be like the rest of it will be a pretty straightforward run: finishing off the conflicts south of the wall, uneasy alliances in order to defeat the Night King's army of the undead after that. my only theory is that at some point next season Cersei will become the Night Queen, just a full evil power-up. But that might be too ridiculous...maybe.

Confused why they're risking Gendry on this stupid capture-a-zombie mission when he's seriously needed forging dragonglass into weapons

― sansa riff (sarahell)

Not only that, surely his lineage could come in useful somehow. Like if he married Dany to combine the Targaryen and Baratheon dynasties.

what is there to like about arya? she's let vengeance take over her life, she was shown to have some empathy early on but by this point has killed dozens if not hundreds of people and seems to really enjoy it. she's self-righteous, self-involved and is now looking v greasy

ogmor, Tuesday, 15 August 2017 10:33 (six years ago) link

more interesting as a character than she was previously. tbf she did see hundreds of men taunting her brother's corpse with a wolf's head rammed onto it, afair

Bein' Sean Bean (LocalGarda), Tuesday, 15 August 2017 10:34 (six years ago) link

Yes to all of Ogmor's points, yet I for one still root for her.

Episode 8: Women Love Bastards

nashwan, Tuesday, 15 August 2017 10:37 (six years ago) link

she's more straightforward and less conflicted than ever. I'm sure there'll be some big change/crisis but for now she's awful

aaaand it's gone

fun while it lasted tho

I don't think Arya is particularly flawed next to the other characters. She's been alone a long time and I don't think her being self-involved has hurt anyone?

Robert Adam Gilmour, Tuesday, 15 August 2017 11:52 (six years ago) link

I can't think of any other character who has made murder their life's purpose in the same way

ogmor, Tuesday, 15 August 2017 12:00 (six years ago) link

nomar, i concede!

sean gramophone, Tuesday, 15 August 2017 12:20 (six years ago) link

Arya is waaaaaaay less interesting now

President Keyes, Tuesday, 15 August 2017 12:22 (six years ago) link

Is she going to kill Cersei?
Dont fucking care

President Keyes, Tuesday, 15 August 2017 12:23 (six years ago) link

i like Arya a lot and this transition to cold-blooded, single minded avenging assassin has been setting itself up for seasons. this is about where she should be rn.

she might be a little zzz at the moment, but most of these character are this season tbh.

circa1916, Tuesday, 15 August 2017 12:28 (six years ago) link

For me shes stepped over the line as a character. If Sansa and LF murked her right now i'd be satisfied.

President Keyes, Tuesday, 15 August 2017 12:31 (six years ago) link

in the sense that she's gone TOO FAR in her murderous romp? idk, that's more interesting than wholly righteous assassin.

circa1916, Tuesday, 15 August 2017 12:33 (six years ago) link

Sam was too busy ranting to notice something that probably would have saved a lot of lives, right?

― Matt DC, Monday, August 14, 2017 5:36 PM (yesterday) Bookmark Flag Post Permalink

is there any reason to think that if Sam found out that Rhaegar and Lyanna were married he would conclude that they are Jon's parents?

mizzell, Tuesday, 15 August 2017 12:35 (six years ago) link

i guess the book Gilly was reading could have gone on to mention a child, but it still wouldn't have been obvious, right?

mizzell, Tuesday, 15 August 2017 12:36 (six years ago) link

Nah. In that the interesting thing about her character was the struggle between her desire for vengeance and her humanity. The assassin side has basically won, and there's really not enough time left for her to take a believable turn. I'm sure they'll put her in some kind of bullshit redemptive storyline now, but for me her arc could be seen as complete and she could be killed off now. She won't be, because of fan expectations.

President Keyes, Tuesday, 15 August 2017 12:41 (six years ago) link

they did spend about what, two entire seasons having her "become no one"

Bein' Sean Bean (LocalGarda), Tuesday, 15 August 2017 12:44 (six years ago) link

not saying that makes it interesting, just that it does at least make sense in their story

Bein' Sean Bean (LocalGarda), Tuesday, 15 August 2017 12:44 (six years ago) link

he'd probably have been more interested if he heard the name Lyanna Stark, but he didn't and he still doesn't know that she's Jon's mother. The point of the scene was establishing Jon's claim to the throne, so I'm sure it'll come up again at an opportune moment

Number None, Tuesday, 15 August 2017 12:44 (six years ago) link

Dany will find out before Jon and have to decide whether to kill him, probably.

President Keyes, Tuesday, 15 August 2017 12:46 (six years ago) link

In a different mood Sam might have twigged that this was potentially massive re: the succession to the throne (and y'know the entire ongoing war) and followed up on it, but he wasn't even listening.

The show seems to be making a point that most of the characters we previously rooted for are being taken over by hubris now they actually have some power - Dany, Arya, Sansa to an extent. The Arya stuff seems to make sense but I think Littlefinger is one step ahead of her for now, although there's probably some kind of face switching coming up.

Have they really given any thought into how they're going to bring this White Walker back? Like it might have occurred to someone to at least bring something to restrain them with.

Matt DC, Tuesday, 15 August 2017 12:48 (six years ago) link

maybe they fashioned some handcuffs out of the dragonglass they mined

rock and roll tucci coo (voodoo chili), Tuesday, 15 August 2017 12:53 (six years ago) link

i wondered that but assume they just didn't bother showing them packing ropes etc.

xpost - they stole plans from qyburn for what he calls "very big ropes"

Bein' Sean Bean (LocalGarda), Tuesday, 15 August 2017 12:54 (six years ago) link

presumably if they're stealing like some tiny child zombie (gotta be a good chance of it being a particularly sad/cute/horrific child) they won't need to do much to restrain it.

Bein' Sean Bean (LocalGarda), Tuesday, 15 August 2017 12:56 (six years ago) link

should've at least brought a muzzle or something

rock and roll tucci coo (voodoo chili), Tuesday, 15 August 2017 13:04 (six years ago) link

nashwan, Tuesday, 15 August 2017 13:31 (six years ago) link

i like the arya arc in the same way i like it on dragonball z when goku goes off and trains in an incredibly hard environment, gains enormous skills, and comes back to own everyone

, Tuesday, 15 August 2017 13:40 (six years ago) link

yeah i prob don't expect more than just videogame level entertainment from this show - arya killing loads of people has been cool tbh.

Arya enjoys killing mostly reprehensible people but I don't think she's made particularly bad choices or become mean.

I think the show writers would be a little frustrated that this thread is insisting Arya became the mindless assassin the faceless men were TRYING to make her. Obviously the whole story was about how she couldn't become that... I mean how many lovable Ed Sheeran scenes do they need to shoehorn in this season to reiterate that point?

SPOILERs

the wight they kidnap will be played by ed sheeran

rock and roll tucci coo (voodoo chili), Tuesday, 15 August 2017 14:31 (six years ago) link

kidnap seems like the wrong word to use, but whatevs

rock and roll tucci coo (voodoo chili), Tuesday, 15 August 2017 14:31 (six years ago) link

the thing w arya giving in to her assassin side, for me, is that i don't think it's an unbelievable development? Given what traumas she's experience and how focused she has been for so long on revenge, it seems natural to me that she would be a remorseless killer. I've said this before but I'd watch a spin-off about Arya the contract killer.
