Show Me To The Stage should not be overlooked.

He really missed a chance by not naming one of his albums "That's Gross", didn't he?

yeah it is so much more than a dead dog song. not something that points to a great multi-album career though. i used to own the s/t and it was utterly utterly forgettable except for the groovy lettering on the cover

two weeks pass...

Don't *think* we've had this one before, the only results I can find on the thread for "Buzzard" are dear old Tucky Buzzard.

Anyway:

Anyway, this is "You Always Know Where You Stand With a Buzzard" by Clive John, which I saw in the wild today.

Tim, Monday, 4 September 2017 21:49 (six years ago) link

OK, I admit did post that earlier in this thread but actually seeing it in the flesh sort of trumps that.

Wewlay Bewlay (Tom D.), Tuesday, 5 September 2017 00:03 (six years ago) link

such a weird title/cover match. like was it changed last-minute from "you always know where you stand with a pumpkin"? how the hell did they arrive at either of these?

Doctor Casino, Tuesday, 5 September 2017 00:31 (six years ago) link

not sure but I don't know if I've seen an underground/millennial band do one of these covers/titles ironically until now

yeah this stuff can't be done ironically imo

The cover features the still-hairy prototypical hippy freak Clint generously holding out a giant fake-looking orange. The title of the album came from what Clint said to a visitor who fled after being attacked by buzzards whose nest site he’d unwittingly approached, the point being that you’re supposed to stand your ground and the buzzards will hold back.

Bernard Purdie - Purdie Good!

I believe that Lowell George is making a second appearance... which makes me wonder if anyone has done a record called "Seconds" with a picture of the artist at a dinner table by himself and a huge pile of food surrounded by empty plates.

There's something especially bad about food related ones. I'd like to see one called "Something I Ate Didn't Agree With Me" and it could be maybe a giant, monstrous fish fillet sandwich snarling menacingly at the artist.

Well, if we're moving into poor English (and food-related, sort of) I give you:

That is easily Lowell's third or fourth appearance with that cover, and I for one am always glad to see it come around.

"Meet Me In The Bottom" is an old Blues saying.

waht does it mean?

plp will eat itself (NickB), Friday, 13 October 2017 23:00 (six years ago) link

It's the river bottom. Low-lying alluvial land situated along the banks of a river.

I've only heard it in the southern US.

new noise, Friday, 20 October 2017 17:49 (six years ago) link

Hope the inner sleeve has a from-above view of Ricky's hair, to provide the complete schematics of how it was engineered. I recall collarless dress shirts really coming into their own in the late-80s, usually accompanied by a tiny ponytail. Skaggs was out in front.
