Pickle Rick yelling out a war cry as he ran toward the rats probably caused me to wake up my neighbors

Neanderthal, Wednesday, 9 August 2017 23:56 (six years ago) link

Stoop Crone (Trayce), Thursday, 10 August 2017 00:11 (six years ago) link

So I put on the latest episode and my mother in law sits down about a minute in, making a big fuss that i not stop whatever it is i wanted to watch. She sat through the entire thing god bless her (she had previously been watching Highway to Heaven).

aw

Pickle Rick was great. I wonder if the writers sometimes pick the hardest concepts they can think of, in order to challenge themselves

Vinnie, Thursday, 10 August 2017 03:23 (six years ago) link

It was a pretty bizarre concept. "haha he turned himself into a pickle and cant turn back now he's stuffed... oh wait but hes NOT!"

Stoop Crone (Trayce), Thursday, 10 August 2017 03:33 (six years ago) link

He was, you could say....

In a pickle.

i was genuinely sad that Beth and Rick ignored the kids' hints that they wanted to continue therapy

Neanderthal, Thursday, 10 August 2017 03:35 (six years ago) link

was hoping Trayce's gif would be of Rick putting on sunglasses

Vinnie, Thursday, 10 August 2017 04:06 (six years ago) link

The guy who wrote the theme song/does the score got his musical start at my shop so I feel I have finally contributed something worthwhile to the world.

jjjusten, Thursday, 10 August 2017 04:13 (six years ago) link

I mean hopefully my kids will exceed that but you know the jury is still out on them.

Chocolate-covered gummy bears? Not ruling those lil' guys out. (ulysses), Sunday, 13 August 2017 23:39 (six years ago) link

first three. I just haven't found them very funny.

Shat Parp (dog latin), Monday, 14 August 2017 00:27 (six years ago) link

And you liked the previous seasons?

Mad Piratical (The Cursed Return of the Dastardly Thermo Thinwall), Monday, 14 August 2017 00:38 (six years ago) link

yeah i was gonna say: first three of this season or of the first season? cuz i think they've been pretty on this year so far.

First three of the first season were pretty great too, iirc. Show has been extremely consistent

Neanderthal, Monday, 14 August 2017 05:17 (six years ago) link

Rick has always been a dick tho!

Stoop Crone (Trayce), Monday, 14 August 2017 05:35 (six years ago) link

I mean ok, he sent himself to prison to save the rest of the family but that aside...

Stoop Crone (Trayce), Monday, 14 August 2017 05:35 (six years ago) link

this was like one of those eps where you're like "maybe they're doing this to remind all of their fans who think rick rules that he actually sucks" but then you remember that the creators probably also think rick rules

flippy bard (Will M.), Monday, 14 August 2017 07:21 (six years ago) link

This show rules ass btw

Listen to my homeboy Fantano (D-40), Monday, 14 August 2017 07:53 (six years ago) link

I'm finding the tone in s3 straying too much into meta and referential territory. I like the anarchic, offbeat, conceptual stuff (Meeseeks, house party, Poopybumhole, interdimensional TV), and I'm just not fussed about Mad Max and action movie parodies. Makes me feel like I'm watching a Futurama/Family Guy mash-up, which was something they were always good at avoiding.
We end up with long action sequences taking place in increasingly outlandish worldscapes, so far removed from the familial setting that gave the previous episodes that good push-pull against reality.
Rick is now such a genius he's basically a superman. I didn't find the pickle episode half as cool as it could have been - once he had worked out how to control the cockroach it just devolved into an action parody, whereas I felt that his journey as a pickle could have been smarter.
Cutting Jerry out the picture is also detrimental to the humour in this series. Is there a reason for this? like did the actor have to take time off?
I guess I'm just not finding this series all that funny which is the main complaint

Shat Parp (dog latin), Monday, 14 August 2017 08:46 (six years ago) link

Got say I partly agree with DL here. I am still enjoying it, but finding no real lol moments so far this series.

Chewshabadoo, Monday, 14 August 2017 11:52 (six years ago) link

Not sure if it's MORE meta/referential than before. S1 played with Inception, Nightmare on Elm Street, Fantastic Voyage, that Steven King rip etc. And pickle ep didn't ref anything outside of generic action movie tropes. Not being funny is the real kicker, though I want to watch some S1 to dlb-check that its R&M that's changed and not me.

barbarian radge (NotEnough), Monday, 14 August 2017 12:04 (six years ago) link

Okay I'll give you that. And it's nice that with the Mad Max one, they're not making explicit references to specific Mad Max scenes, just going for Mad Max-esque which is a good move. I was wondering if the pickle episode was referencing any specific film that I'd not seen before or not.
