there's tension around realism and how it undercuts the whole enterprise and they've had fun with that best in the show with the hound interminably trudging through dismal scenes of rural existential squalor. still think his scenes with arya were some of the best, spotting her awful psychopathic tendencies - "of course you named your sword"

Calling it: Pod kills Bronn

Will this be a new show on the Pod Save America network?

Drogo's Trap House

I kinda think Pod and Sansa will hook up.

Dany should fly over King's Landing on the way back to Dragonstone (if she didn't already - isn't it directly between her base and where the attack on the Lannisters took place?), glower at Cersei, have the dragon shit on the Red Keep etc.

Feeling like the first spin-off should be a David Simon / Wong Kar-Wai look at the sometimes morally dubious but ultimately sincere lives of the veg flingers and apprentice armorers living in Flea Bottom, yearning for some peace and quiet and maybe some tit just once in a while.

Set decades after the events of Game of Thrones, Hot Pie's Place follows Hot Pie, an aging restaurateur unsettled by the rapid pace of change in post-Ice and Fire apocalypse Westeros. Pie's politically incorrect jokes and racist rants about White Walker patrons, usually delivered to his young kitchen maid, the runaway noble Dany Snow, are by turns shocking and hilarious. Bran Stark also frequently appears as a crow.

President Keyes, Wednesday, 9 August 2017 14:18 (six years ago) link

Miniseries biopic about that one guy who boasted about how he'd give Cersei a taste of his big salami and then the reanimated Mountain showed up and bashed his head in

El Tomboto, Wednesday, 9 August 2017 14:29 (six years ago) link

Surely someone has already made the Ken Burns doc on the War of Five Kings?

Frederik B, Wednesday, 9 August 2017 14:33 (six years ago) link

Made possible by the Iron Bank of Braavos, and viewers like you.

El Tomboto, Wednesday, 9 August 2017 14:37 (six years ago) link

lol

Hot Pie does have a bakery IRL

dan selzer, Wednesday, 9 August 2017 15:20 (six years ago) link

Timed to coincide with the premiere of Season 7, actor Hawkey partnered with UK-based food delivery app Deliveroo to open You Know Nothing Jon Dough, a pop-up bakery that sells direwolf-shaped loaves of bread (like the one his character made in Season 4)

President Keyes, Wednesday, 9 August 2017 15:26 (six years ago) link

that guy is a known cretin

ogmor, Wednesday, 9 August 2017 15:27 (six years ago) link

Why?

Robert Adam Gilmour, Wednesday, 9 August 2017 16:13 (six years ago) link

there was a rather long storyline centered around the slow, interminable movement of stannis's army right before they got owned by ramsey right

, Wednesday, 9 August 2017 16:51 (six years ago) link

yes although I think you may have forgotten one of, if not the actual most horrible thing that has happened on the entire series in there

El Tomboto, Wednesday, 9 August 2017 16:58 (six years ago) link

hot pie wisely deleted his tweet about how jon venables should be executed to appease his anger

ogmor, Wednesday, 9 August 2017 16:59 (six years ago) link

I dont understand why theyre doing 2 short seasons. Are they still filming the last ones?

Waiting for the ILX verdict on season 7 before scoping season 8 surely?

wtev, Thursday, 10 August 2017 13:06 (six years ago) link

Well, people liked the first half last season, so they made two first halves!

Eallach mhór an duine leisg (dowd), Thursday, 10 August 2017 13:08 (six years ago) link

2 short final seasons in pretty common in prestige TV: Sopranos did it. Breaking Bad did it. Mad Men did it.

President Keyes, Thursday, 10 August 2017 13:18 (six years ago) link

They all did it differently, though, with two half-seasons meaning that they got two years of subscriptions for the contractual prize of one season. I think Game of Thrones is doing season 7 and 8, right? And I don't entirely get what the point is of that.

Frederik B, Thursday, 10 August 2017 13:33 (six years ago) link

According to the showrunners they're putting so many battle scenes and effects into the last two seasons that they don't have time/money to do 10 full episodes each season.

President Keyes, Thursday, 10 August 2017 13:38 (six years ago) link

I guess that also explains why the last episode was only 45 minutes and hardly anyone cared.

President Keyes, Thursday, 10 August 2017 13:41 (six years ago) link

Yeah, that kinda makes sense.

Frederik B, Thursday, 10 August 2017 13:48 (six years ago) link

More shows should follow this approach, tbh.

Josh in Chicago, Thursday, 10 August 2017 13:49 (six years ago) link

Seasons 5 and 6 of Game of Thrones certainly should have.

chap, Thursday, 10 August 2017 13:51 (six years ago) link

Would have been far too long though. I don't fancy a full decade of this.

Robert Adam Gilmour, Thursday, 10 August 2017 14:03 (six years ago) link

Oh, do you mean making seasons shorter or splitting them into two?

Robert Adam Gilmour, Thursday, 10 August 2017 14:06 (six years ago) link

I think the last two eps of this season(?) are quite long.

Eallach mhór an duine leisg (dowd), Thursday, 10 August 2017 14:13 (six years ago) link

Wasn't there also a suggestion from hbo that each episode in season 8 would be "feature length"?

wtev, Thursday, 10 August 2017 14:17 (six years ago) link

Oh, do you mean making seasons shorter or splitting them into two?

― Robert Adam Gilmour,

Shorter seasons. The amount of actual plot in 5 & 6 could've easily been squeezed into seven episodes each.

chap, Thursday, 10 August 2017 15:33 (six years ago) link

Well, yes.

Probably been mentioned but is there some magical reason why the White Walkers cannot get past the wall?

They sure are taking their time otherwise

groovypanda, Friday, 11 August 2017 11:39 (six years ago) link

Literally the magical reason of magic being in the wall ice. They also get too seasick to take a boat.

nashwan, Friday, 11 August 2017 11:48 (six years ago) link

that's a good point. There was definitely a guy, way back when, yelling DIG A MOAT. JUST DIG A BIG MOAT. CALL IT A CANAL, IF YOU MUST and all the other people at the meeting were like shut up, we voted, a wall is better.

As an ilxor, I am uncompromising (El Tomboto), Friday, 11 August 2017 12:15 (six years ago) link

yeah they weren't able to follow jon snow across the water that time

Bein' Sean Bean (LocalGarda), Friday, 11 August 2017 12:16 (six years ago) link

wish we'd had a scene in which qyburn revealed his idea for a wall

Bein' Sean Bean (LocalGarda), Friday, 11 August 2017 12:17 (six years ago) link

ideally by him throwing something against the wall to illustrate the concept

Bein' Sean Bean (LocalGarda), Friday, 11 August 2017 12:17 (six years ago) link

"walls - good for warmth, of course, but could we put them to use to, if you will, 'block' the movement of an enemy force?"

Bein' Sean Bean (LocalGarda), Friday, 11 August 2017 12:18 (six years ago) link

"but qyburn walls are tiny, an army can simply knock them over"

"not the wall i have in mind..."

sorry everyone

kinder, Friday, 11 August 2017 13:35 (six years ago) link

where's the Lorax when we need him?

President Keyes, Friday, 11 August 2017 14:26 (six years ago) link

Suspect the fact that both the Hound and the Mountain are now basically unkillable means they'll have a pretty crucial part to play in the eventual White Walker battle.
