On 2nd viewing, I felt like Bran's silent response to "you died in that cave" was tacit acknowledgement, and then when he looks back out the window he's perhaps mildly sad at the loss of his humanity. But I'm reading way too much into that

I got that impression on first viewing.

the bran plot line has been the most consistently bad part of the show. playing on the audience's sense of just desserts by finding new and surprising ways to be astonishing cruel to its characters has been a big part of this show's m.o.

What happened to the Meera is John's sister theories?

dan selzer, Tuesday, 8 August 2017 15:09 (six years ago) link

I think she said everything very succinctly. Most important point being that Bran might not even exist anymore, just a surveillance system that looks like him.

She stars in The Levelling and its supposed to be very good, anyone here seen it?

Robert Adam Gilmour, Tuesday, 8 August 2017 15:11 (six years ago) link

I like Bran's parts. The vision/raven thing is interesting and his settings are nice.

Robert Adam Gilmour, Tuesday, 8 August 2017 15:12 (six years ago) link

What happened to the Meera is John's sister theories?

There was no 2nd baby in that Tower of Joy flashback.

Even if the theory is correct in the books, I see why the showrunners would toss it out.

you guys watch this show twice? is that rewarding?

Chocolate-covered gummy bears? Not ruling those lil' guys out. (ulysses), Tuesday, 8 August 2017 15:36 (six years ago) link

I forsee a strong possibility of a lot of frustrating evasion of Bran's condition. It's understandable they're afraid of finding out how much he knows right now (maybe he'll bring up that he's seen every dump you've taken and all your sexual activity) but they're fighting wars so it seems inevitable they'd want to know the full extent of his capabilities within a few days of his return. He could make things much easier and I guess more people will try to kill him if they find out what he can do.

/freefolk is a subreddit for GoT enthusiasts who don't mind spoilers

led me to this link which contains fairly detailed plot summaries for all of this season's episodes:

^^interesting stuff, if you don't mind spoilers

More or less jumped ship, but I am surprised they are burning through plot so quickly, what with truncated seasons and limited source material. You'd think they'd be taking their time.

Anyway, I'd probably tune in again if there just an episode of the dragons chilling, hunting, doing dragon things. Kind of like a pet-cam.

do you mean the opposite? with truncated season & limited source material its not at all surprising that they're wrapping things up more quickly

History of the ballista the real world version of the giant anti-aircraft/dragon crossbow, which apparently dates back to the 4th century BC

I don't like the show's writing any more, but hey, dragon battle, I'm OK with that.
Brienne-Arya fight was also good. Didn't really need another "chivalric fighting is bullshit" reminder but it was fun to watch.

Something's deeply wrong with the King's Landing weapon development process when no one feels able to ask the simple question "should we make this out of something less flammable than wood?"

Matt DC, Wednesday, 9 August 2017 11:50 (six years ago) link

Thinking today that no one involved in the war seems to care much either way about Winterfell/the North these days. But it's a good base for a Lannister army that's getting decimated everywhere else so maybe they'll try to take the castle at some point. Basically I can see Jaime's story ending with his getting killed by a White Walker arriving in the middle of a completely avoidable siege.

Matt DC, Wednesday, 9 August 2017 11:52 (six years ago) link

A couple of seasons ago I would have said Winterfell is way too far away and that Moat Callin alone makes it strategically difficult to use as a base, but at this point they'll probably show up within five minutes of the next episode...

Frederik B, Wednesday, 9 August 2017 11:59 (six years ago) link

Given the amount of time we've spent watching Pod being trained, I'm expecting him to have a kick ass sword fight at some point.

President Keyes, Wednesday, 9 August 2017 12:36 (six years ago) link

Also, I wonder when the untouched but leaderless armies of Dorne will show up.

President Keyes, Wednesday, 9 August 2017 12:38 (six years ago) link

Perhaps Pod will lead them?

Frederik B, Wednesday, 9 August 2017 12:43 (six years ago) link

Nah, probably a snake

President Keyes, Wednesday, 9 August 2017 12:45 (six years ago) link

Yeah, there are still five snakes left we haven't even met yet! Exciting!

Frederik B, Wednesday, 9 August 2017 12:53 (six years ago) link

I'm not sure they exist in TV Westeros.

chap, Wednesday, 9 August 2017 13:00 (six years ago) link

watch out for snakes

Einstein, Kazanga, Sitar (abanana), Wednesday, 9 August 2017 13:02 (six years ago) link

I think Oberyn mentions eight daughters at one point, but they never alluded to any more than three after that. Still, there's a possibility we're not even half way through the Dorne-plot!

Frederik B, Wednesday, 9 August 2017 13:19 (six years ago) link

at this point they'll probably show up within five minutes of the next episode...

I for one am really angry at the lack of scenes of armies tramping across camp various bits of Westeros, perhaps if they had a few more scenes of Dany and Tyrion talking to one another in a field we'd get a sense of quite how far they're travelling.

Matt DC, Wednesday, 9 August 2017 13:21 (six years ago) link

I'm fiending for the DVD boxes with all the deleted Corman-esque scenes of people walking long distances, perhaps stumbling, maybe kicking rocks down the trail.

President Keyes, Wednesday, 9 August 2017 13:29 (six years ago) link

I mostly want to see the Wang Bing-esque documentary on shipbuilding on the Iron Islands.

Calling it: Pod kills Bronn

El Tomboto, Wednesday, 9 August 2017 13:59 (six years ago) link

there's tension around realism and how it undercuts the whole enterprise and they've had fun with that best in the show with the hound interminably trudging through dismal scenes of rural existential squalor. still think his scenes with arya were some of the best, spotting her awful psychopathic tendencies - "of course you named your sword"

ogmor, Wednesday, 9 August 2017 14:03 (six years ago) link

President Keyes, Wednesday, 9 August 2017 14:06 (six years ago) link

I kinda think Pod and Sansa will hook up.

Dany should fly over King's Landing on the way back to Dragonstone (if she didn't already - isn't it directly between her base and where the attack on the Lannisters took place?), glower at Cersei, have the dragon shit on the Red Keep etc.

nashwan, Wednesday, 9 August 2017 14:07 (six years ago) link

Feeling like the first spin-off should be a David Simon / Wong Kar-Wai look at the sometimes morally dubious but ultimately sincere lives of the veg flingers and apprentice armorers living in Flea Bottom, yearning for some peace and quiet and maybe some tit just once in a while.

El Tomboto, Wednesday, 9 August 2017 14:09 (six years ago) link

Set decades after the events of Game of Thrones, Hot Pie's Place follows Hot Pie, an aging restaurateur unsettled by the rapid pace of change in post-Ice and Fire apocalypse Westeros. Pie's politically incorrect jokes and racist rants about White Walker patrons, usually delivered to his young kitchen maid, the runaway noble Dany Snow, are by turns shocking and hilarious. Bran Stark also frequently appears as a crow.

President Keyes, Wednesday, 9 August 2017 14:18 (six years ago) link

Miniseries biopic about that one guy who boasted about how he'd give Cersei a taste of his big salami and then the reanimated Mountain showed up and bashed his head in

Timed to coincide with the premiere of Season 7, actor Hawkey partnered with UK-based food delivery app Deliveroo to open You Know Nothing Jon Dough, a pop-up bakery that sells direwolf-shaped loaves of bread (like the one his character made in Season 4)

there was a rather long storyline centered around the slow, interminable movement of stannis's army right before they got owned by ramsey right
