Just once it would be nice to see some action on this show
Yeah that was fun

Yeah Jaime should be a goner, sinking to the bottom of the pond.

I guess tyrion was watching and could send someone over to fetch him.

Bronn has to be the most athletic dude in the history of westeros to make that diving horse tackle. I'd draft him as my free safety

rock and roll tucci coo (voodoo chili), Monday, 7 August 2017 03:45 (six years ago) link

If Jaime doesn't drown I'll have to chalk it up to the same physics that got Dany's army across the continent in apparently three days or so.

Not at all to dispute the time-condensed nature of the season so far, but they only had to get from Dragonstone to the outskirts of King's Landing.

Gukbe, Monday, 7 August 2017 04:06 (six years ago) link

I appreciated bron's roy scheider impression.

ryan, Monday, 7 August 2017 04:14 (six years ago) link

Jaime won't die. It's total story lines at this point coming together, but to me, it's pretty enjoyable.

earlnash, Monday, 7 August 2017 04:27 (six years ago) link

fkn dragon blitzkrieg was aaaaawweeeeesome

Yoni Loves Chocha (VegemiteGrrl), Monday, 7 August 2017 05:04 (six years ago) link

jamie won't die or at least not yet

until you see him headless or full of spears or torn into pieces ie actually dead & not still alive slowly sinking to the bottom during a fadeout

we will get our HE DIDNT GET OUT OF THE COCKADOODIE CAR jaime is still alive moment trust

Yoni Loves Chocha (VegemiteGrrl), Monday, 7 August 2017 05:07 (six years ago) link

pretty sure they wouldn't have jaime saved from an epic flaming death just to drown from a plunge into a pond.

awesome episode.

nomar, Monday, 7 August 2017 05:41 (six years ago) link

pretty satisfying to see that qyburn weapon get tail-smacked into pieces.

nomar, Monday, 7 August 2017 05:46 (six years ago) link

I quit at season 2 when there were the ghost people in the free desert city, jumping in again with this episode. Suspicious that it's permeated pop culture to the point where I'll understand everything that's going on.

louie mensch (milo z), Monday, 7 August 2017 05:47 (six years ago) link

This episode fucking ruled. Back on the bandwagon lol

Listen to my homeboy Fantano (D-40), Monday, 7 August 2017 09:44 (six years ago) link

Only thing that bugged me was some of the lines davos got were super corny lol tho he did his best

Guy who plays bron is a good actor

I think kit Harrington is a good actor too tbh

Listen to my homeboy Fantano (D-40), Monday, 7 August 2017 09:46 (six years ago) link

Also weren't the blue eyes just blue colored rocks, duh

Listen to my homeboy Fantano (D-40), Monday, 7 August 2017 09:47 (six years ago) link

That. Was. AWESOME.

...except for the bits with Littlefinger glowering in the corner repeatedly. Shit or get off the pot, dude!

Stoop Crone (Trayce), Monday, 7 August 2017 10:26 (six years ago) link

Got a creepy feeling littlefinger's got the hots for Arya now.

Get over the blue paint/rocks. We've got blue from like 1323 BC says wikipedia, and it's a latecomer after red, ochre, pink and purple, colors used in cave paintings that are still visible.

dan selzer, Monday, 7 August 2017 11:28 (six years ago) link

No no i need you guys to be annoyed over a lame comment i threw in there for another 8 hours at least

El Tomboto, Monday, 7 August 2017 11:35 (six years ago) link

I also like the idea that when fighting an enemy with piercing blue eyes, that people would find a blue color much sooner!

Frederik B, Monday, 7 August 2017 11:36 (six years ago) link

Wow, they fucking nailed that Dothraki/Drogon attack. I know I'm doing my share of lame comments as well, but this show still nails the iconic parts of this story when it matters.

Frederik B, Monday, 7 August 2017 11:52 (six years ago) link

The cavalry riding through the fire. That was stunning.

Frederik B, Monday, 7 August 2017 11:53 (six years ago) link

So where was Dickon's Dad in all this? I forgot to give a shit about where he was going and for what purpose.

El Tomboto, Monday, 7 August 2017 12:33 (six years ago) link

He was headed to the rear to flog the cart drivers at the end of the line.

Littlefinger's face when Bran said "Chaos is a ladder" was so good.

You've got fucking dragons mate.

guys they are setting up a parallel -- do you see -- in that other episode Theon saved himself by jumping in the water and his dick got cut off in a previous season -- now it's Jaime who is missing a hand and couldn't operate the giant crossbow jumping in the water!

sansa riff (sarahell), Monday, 7 August 2017 12:57 (six years ago) link

I'm almost willing to bet the follow up scene will be Bronn dragging Jaime out of the water downstream somewhere, avoiding capture but being all alone. As implausible as it would be for Bronn to drag a fully armored guy to a distant shore it seems to me like the most likely story driven outcome.

Evan, Monday, 7 August 2017 13:00 (six years ago) link

Also, she would have lost zero Dothraki if she just burned all the Lannister army without them charging? Seems kinda like dumb battle tactics to me. She only just learned that they have anti-dragon missiles. Otherwise it's kind of invincible...

Evan, Monday, 7 August 2017 13:03 (six years ago) link

I was like 'don't burn the convoy, steal their food at least'. I was kinda hoping Drogon was gonna liquify the gold bars though.

nashwan, Monday, 7 August 2017 13:04 (six years ago) link

Yeah, I wasn't clear on whether or not the stuff they burned was the food they talked about Cersei taking earlier? I guess not.

Eallach mhór an duine leisg (dowd), Monday, 7 August 2017 13:30 (six years ago) link

so:

-dany is gonna get drunk with power and torch the countryside + win - then white walkers overrun the wall and she will have a humbling moment before pivoting to face them?
-will sansa put the hit out on arya?

, Monday, 7 August 2017 14:16 (six years ago) link

why would sansa try to get rid of arya?

anyway that battle sequence set the record for most stuntmen set on fire in one scene

http://io9.gizmodo.com/game-of-thrones-decided-to-set-even-more-people-on-fire-1795862159

El Tomboto, Monday, 7 August 2017 14:54 (six years ago) link

bad vibes from the look sansa gave arya while she was sparring and (minor spoiler) i think sophie turner said sansa was going to do something bad this season, and wouldn't that be just the perfect twist?

, Monday, 7 August 2017 15:03 (six years ago) link

I expected a false charge from the Dothraki - they'd get just outside of arrow range (Westeros archers seem to not be up to English longbowman standards) while she swooped in with the dragon. Does seem pretty pointless to get them killed breaking the lines she was just going to torch anyway.

louie mensch (milo z), Monday, 7 August 2017 15:04 (six years ago) link

i guess the more popoular theory is that sansa will enlist arya to kill carcetti

, Monday, 7 August 2017 15:16 (six years ago) link

Arya: we have a lot to catch up on. How's your life been

Sansa: trash, you?

Arya: same

[awkward silence]

Sansa: btw Bran is nuts now

last night dany became presidential

nomar, Monday, 7 August 2017 15:48 (six years ago) link

If we have dragons, why cant we use them?

President Keyes, Monday, 7 August 2017 16:03 (six years ago) link

petroglyphs in cave so fucking stupid

totally ridiculous. dragonstone is the new dorne, almost everything that happens there is stupid/funny. i also like how they didn't show any shots of davos or missandei since the cave had to be both the cave of faintly expositional history and the cave of smouldering sexual chemistry. they couldn't have done much more to show jon/dany romance is coming short of showing him with a visible boner. like 3/4 separate setups for that.

when the dragon toasted a load of men it felt like a payoff the promise of which had kept me watching the show this whole time. the whole battle scene was great and what was nice was that i didn't think a big scene like that was coming this episode, in previous seasons the battles have been on the way for a while.

loved the arya/brienne scene too.

so is this the end of the giant crossbow of innovation or was this meant to show what a great idea it is so let's build more?

Bein' Sean Bean (LocalGarda), Monday, 7 August 2017 18:00 (six years ago) link

they'll build a bigger one

President Keyes, Monday, 7 August 2017 18:09 (six years ago) link

"my queen - imagine if you will... a slingshot, a child's toy you might say, of course, but what if that slingshot was in fact extremely huge? and capable of throwing very large rocks indeed. what then? bring it in men"

Bein' Sean Bean (LocalGarda), Monday, 7 August 2017 18:12 (six years ago) link

lol at the queen of dragons thinking it's a good idea to hop out of the ride and attempt to singlehandedly pull a ten foot arrow out of her pet's body in the middle of a massive battle. mastermind!

I keep reading recaps where they say Jamie was rushing forth to try to finish off the dragon, when it seemed pretty fucking obvious he was going to try to kill Dany

President Keyes, Monday, 7 August 2017 18:22 (six years ago) link

I assume recappers are barely watching the show though

President Keyes, Monday, 7 August 2017 18:22 (six years ago) link

is the dragon going to be okay? i'm guessing a dragon heals fairly well.

also why did she leave the other two dragons at home? do they need someone to be riding them to be used effectively?

Bein' Sean Bean (LocalGarda), Monday, 7 August 2017 18:24 (six years ago) link

i assume dragons will be okay since that one dragon took a bunch of spears at the gladiator pit and seems fine

, Monday, 7 August 2017 18:25 (six years ago) link

it would definitely have been cool to have a river of molten gold. i think i remember that from a neal stephenson book

, Monday, 7 August 2017 18:26 (six years ago) link

xpost yeah but I didn't see a GIANT crossbow in that case

President Keyes, Monday, 7 August 2017 18:27 (six years ago) link

yeah the ingenious thing about a giant crossbow is it fires far bigger bolts

Bein' Sean Bean (LocalGarda), Monday, 7 August 2017 18:30 (six years ago) link

it's simple but brilliant

Bein' Sean Bean (LocalGarda), Monday, 7 August 2017 18:30 (six years ago) link

pretty neat how the giant crossbow is able to be operated by just one person. the same as every other massive piece of siege weaponry, basically

, Monday, 7 August 2017 18:33 (six years ago) link

yeah it definitely had more of a rocket launcher vibe

Bein' Sean Bean (LocalGarda), Monday, 7 August 2017 18:44 (six years ago) link
