It's what I need to learn. Think it might come down to having a good sized workspace, organised veg storage so I can find everything and a sharp good knife. Also getting knife technique down.
So I need to tidy my kitchen.

A song I have been listening a lot to recently: "I Believe in You" by Talk Talk. How the instruments seem to hang in the air in the beginning and everything evolves from there, that's amazing and never bores me. One listen per day of this song just before going to bed is becoming a daily routine for me which is no routine at all as there is still so much to discover in there. The choir alone is such a miracle of beauty. In the beginning I did not hear it as a choir, I thought it was a synth line. Etc.

I am into my new Bluetooth hearing aids bcz I can control them from my iPhone (like change the settings and volume), also it will stream phone calls and music to my hearing aids like Bluetooth headphones, also this means that when I watch stuff on my Roku and use the iPhone app as the remote and turn on the private listening, I can just listen right in my hearing aids??? no more subtitles! v exciting.

cycling! after 15 years i am finally on a bike again. it is the best exercise. there is a huge 2500-acre park in a river valley right near my house with miles and miles of paved bike trails so i've been riding down there a lot

decorative garden suns, which also resemble inti, the ancient incan sun god. i just hung a huge one on my front porch and it looks awesome. there is a little hippie arts & crafts store in town and they have a bunch of handmade ones and others with trees and flowers and i want to get some of those.

building cairns. we removed a garden pond in our backyard because the previous owners didn't maintain it and it was just 4ft deep sludge. after we drained it and filled it in with dirt we had all these beautiful rocks of varying sizes leftover from the pond, and now we have about 25 or so little cairns and rock gardens throughout our yard. we collected some driftwood from the lake and built some natural sculptures with those too. it is nice to look at them. the cairns often collapse so it has been a continuous process to build new ones that are stacked in different ways.

what sort of soups?

ogmor, Friday, 22 December 2017 10:18 (six years ago) link

I love making soups. The last batch I made was Potato/Leek/Onion/Celery/Carrot, but I have a big preference for Tomato Soup. Soup is amazing.

calzino, Friday, 22 December 2017 10:29 (six years ago) link

Just remembering the time last year when I spent hours making some homemade passata out of this beautiful batch of tomatoes. Then I fucked the lot up with some cheap, foul tasting chicken stock I'd picked up at the Asian supermarket. That was soul destroying. I don't bother pealing + sieving tomatoes any more, it wasn't worth the effort.

calzino, Friday, 22 December 2017 10:48 (six years ago) link

Listening to my music collection geographically.

On soup, can anyone recommend a good Clam Chowdah recipe? I perpetually dream about the stuff I had in Boston but have yet to try and make a batch up.
