metalheadz on the comeback.i picked up the recent(ish) mikal album a few weeks back, and damn, it hits the spot.just a shame that the new goldie album sounds like a snorefest from the reviews.

I haven't heard the new Makoto album yet but the tracks I've heard from it were really good. My Spotify access should be back by Wednesday, that's probably the first place I'm going to go.

Schedule for this year's Sun and Bass festival, for anyone interested. Look at the goddamn names, it's nonstop legends. I'm hoping to go next year. Bassdrive will probably be broadcasting bits of it live this week.

Those Metalheadz tracks are amazing, I dunno if they've got someone new signing records but they've got a couple bangers right there. I've heard better stuff from Brazil last year but I'll still check out the V comp.

I'm sure the new T.R.A.C. album Life In Motion isn't news to anyone, but hot damn is it good. Probably the only dnb album of the year that crosses over into my all-genre top ten.

'drumfunk' has got to be one of the stupidest things ever, but it's a really cool mix.
― Frederik B, Thursday, 19 April 2018 20:29 (six years ago) link
You just mean the name?
This mix is super nostalgic for me, around '04 - '08 I used to listen to loads of this style, and the first tracks I made on the computer sounded a whole lot like it.

what's so bad about "drumfunk"
― the late great, Thursday, 19 April 2018 22:59 (six years ago) link
Yeah, just the name.
― Frederik B, Thursday, 19 April 2018 23:05 (six years ago) link
It never bothered me, although I don't think music at this tempo is "funky" per se. Maybe drumcore, or better yet...break...core?
― change display name (Jordan), Friday, 20 April 2018 00:02 (six years ago) link
Yeah, there's just way too many names for jungle already. I was being hyperbolic, though, nothing can be as bad as 'neurofunk'. Still. 'Drumfunk?'

Oh dear too much Cabernet Sauvignon tonight
Yeah if you check his Twatter (don't) you'll see Photek also stanning JP. Probably not the most embarrassing thing on there tbh.Ugh...
― raven, Friday, 18 February 2022 11:04 (two years ago) link
That's a shame about Photek. Never cared that much for Dom and Roland though.
Thanks for that Blu Mar Ten link above.
I'm liking a lot of the retro stuff that's about - Tim Reaper and Co, Rupture Records, even stuff on Omni who are hit and miss but seem to release 4 or 5 EPs every month. Even enjoying some of the Tik-toky pop jungle from Nia Archives and Pink Panthress.
If you want straight face melting bangers, Grid Recordings still putting out some fun stuff which I guess would be classed as jump up but done in a non-obvious anti-anthemic kind of way. Check out Yatuza, Muzo, Nick the Lot for example
Also good recently: Sl8r - Temptation, Need for Mirrors - Dozy, Blocks and Escher - This One (On R&S). Also liking Myth, Fluidity, Fanu and the always reliable Break.
I go to Junodownload new releases every Monday and it's 95% shite but dnb still produces a few gems so I can't let it go as a genre

Cheers to you! From here this actually looks like a good jumping off point for a new thread…feeling a little sleep deprived, thanks neighbors. But this is what I’ve got — I feel like I’m forgetting something:Rolling thread of the HARDCORE CONTINUUM from 2022 into the future (jungle, drum and bass, uk garage, dubstep, bass music, funky, halfstep &c)Any suggested fixes?

Beat you to it ROLLING RAVEY BANGERS / HARDCORE 'NUUM

Aha ok. Don’t you think it’s kind of helpful to have a somewhat more descriptive title? Is the goal just to keep all discussion here safe from the prying eyes of any outsiders or maybe even newcomers?
― recovering internet addict/shitposter (viborg), Friday, 18 February 2022 13:29 (two years ago) link
Anyway Don I was gonna say ‘Dozy’ is tremendous! I was under the impression Need for Mirrors was just another stadium d&b act. I should pay more attention to R&S records also…I checked out Omni Music, like you said it’s a low signal to noise ratio there. The same could be said of Juno sadly, I know there is plenty of quality there if you dig for it. Too bad cause they used to have that top notch blog thing going on.
― recovering internet addict/shitposter (viborg), Friday, 18 February 2022 13:34 (two years ago) link
