this, by moon, is a great album - kind of electro in the other people place style, some house also.

some bits and pieces I've been enjoying lately:

Gerd Janson & Shan - Surrender - filtered disco house hasn't ever really gone away but I've noticed in the past few months there's a lot of releases that sound like that 1997 sound of tough kicks and ecstatic samples and this is a personal favourite.

Bullion - Blue Pedro - this is really cheesy, like something off that disappointing Todd Terje album, but I actually love this because it's so shameless - it's the Blue Peter theme done as arpeggiated disco.

Andras - Vinyl Only - all three tracks from this are great in a retro, analogue way.

Moscoman - Big Jack Arbon - stompy percussion which turns into big glassy melodies.

Morgan Geist - Ocgc - pristine disco as always, but I think the Megaprojects series has let Geist show a more maximalist, anthemic side.

Radio slave - Children Of The E (KiNK SP1200 Remix) - every single time I go out just now I hear his remix of Unit 2's "Sunshine" which is obvious and devastating but I think this is actually the best thing KiNK has done recently.

Rico Puestel - If I'd Care More - shiny Ibiza techno, the highlight from Cocoon Compilation Q, which is better than the 17th release in a chain of compilations should be.

Dark Sky - Kilter - rumbling wompy bass from Modeselektor associates.

Riva Starr - Another Race - Riva Starr have been very prolific and I've never really paid any attention but I saw a video of Steffi playing this at Glastonbury and it sounded excellent - tech-house that sounds like hi-nrg italo with lots of trippy effects.

Peverelist - Still Early - undulating sunrise techno, feels like a natural successor to "Clunk Click Every Trip" which is now scarily nine years old.

Mosca - Peyote Sitch - Livity Sound have a good few ones out just now from Forest West Drive and Hodge as well as the Peverelist album but I really like the slightness of this, the pitched cowbell melody anchoring the weird sounds around it.

Bufiman - Peace Moves (DJ Normal 4 Ever Armstice Remix) - breakbeats and whistles and deep chords.

Mallard - Untitled (Breaks) & Earth Boys - Trail Mix - heard both of these on recent Test Pressing mixes on NTS. Lumping them together because they both do the same thing, which I guess would be lush, balearic rave.

(sorry for the basic write-ups but I didn't want to just post a dozen links and leave it at that)

that kink remix is great!! i liked both sides of the original "children of the e" but i like this even better.

love the mosca too, probably best thing on livity sound since kowton's "on repeat"

the late great, Monday, 7 August 2017 18:57 (six years ago) link

I liked both sides of that Dark Sky record, and that Gerd Jansen track. Nice selection of breaks, too, boxedjoy! Thank you.

The incomparable Ewan Jansen. I've never been to Perth but apparently they have a SkyTrain too. If this release is anything to go by I'll have a read about that for sure!

Willikens doesn't make/remix a lot of tracks but when she does they're killer. She's a great DJ too in case you didn't know

No idea, great track though. Very druggy.

It seems improbable that Feleacu has even a crude drawing of a SkyTrain but it does have this moody record being played and some bucolic weather

Some great tracks posted here. Sadly I feel that I'm losing my touch with current house and techno. At least I had the pleasure of hearing Petre Inspirescu play for 6 hours at Underground in Ibiza in july.

mmmm, Sunday, 20 August 2017 19:03 (six years ago) link

What did he play? generally I prefer when he plays with the other two but always depends on context/location!

I've been wondering what this one is, Bigeneric - unsure if its from the vaults or a new production tho!

what's the name of the original track he used for this? i think it's a japanese old school "new wave" / techno track that i heard in some cosmic mix. thought it was Logic System but it after quickly going tough their catalog it doesn't look like it.

saer, Friday, 1 September 2017 05:13 (six years ago) link

at first i was excited because i had him confused with sean DEASON from detroit

but yeah a swedish guy ... i didn't realize he had so many releases, the only thing of this i'd heard before this was his rawax release because i'm a rawax / chiwax / housewax stan

I briefly made the exact same mistake, going to dig out Dreamscape tomorrow

saer, Friday, 1 September 2017 05:50 (six years ago) link

this Karen Gwyer is probably the best techno release I've heard this year. Kind of Actress-y in places, but more overtly dancey and playful.

https://karengwyer.bandcamp.com/album/rembo

Another good one, though a bit more all over the place, is this Information Flash. Mostly weirdo techno, but has some breakbeat/dnb stuff on there as well
