coming at this from another angle you could definitely make a case for the inclusion of certain big black songs - kerosene most obviously, but also this:

i used to love those KMFDM sherwood records big time but now find my ears feel those have dated the worst out of nearly all sherwood's work.

only got the cd edition of the album a couple of years ago, and rarely listen, so not burnt out.
but yeah, KMFDM vs Cheese is a problem i always suffer from whenever i drop them on the playlist.

I've come to the conclusion that Don't Blow Your Top is KMFDM's perfect moment, although I hadn't heard "Zip" before and it's low-key glorious.

Hula also. The mellow side of this look was this timeless (lol or very dated) jam

Didn't know Graham Lewis had his own weird-ass synth pop project. He is one intense guy. Cool art direction for the video!

I thought it had a better hit/miss ratio than Colin Newman's solo work, when I discovered it in the early 90s, but I favored Lewis Wire over Newman Wire (and Lennon over McCartney). With all the ex-Wire solo/duo material, I think some QC would have improved the consumer experience.

in '85 my girlfriend and I drove into LA to try to get into the Test Department show at Club Lingerie, which was 21+; I was 17, she was 19. we didn't get in, so we walked around H'wood smoking cigarettes. I sometimes wonder: if you'd seen that show, on that night, how heavily might it have impacted your taste? because I bet it was fuckin slammin
