You are not bound by the 'album' format; there is more flexibility when it comes to creating and sharing playlists; your homepage continually refreshes with the newest work of the artists you are following, which you can stream freely. Also, for whatever reason, I get far more plays from Soundcloud than I do from Bandcamp.

Plus, the way it loads and streams related tracks when you listen to something is different from Bandcamp, and is a good way to explore new things. Putting tracks out into a 'cloud' vs releasing 'albums', basically.

I see. Well, you've convinced me to create an account with them.

Ha, I wasn't trying to do that, just trying to answer the question.

ya bandcamp is more rawk/album oriented and soundcloud is more beats/singles or mixes oriented

its absence will be felt by me, who rips a lot of music off there

kind of wonder what will happen in electronic music if it actually disappears. 9 out of 10 tracks on residentadvisor.com/tracks are on sc. this piece by Matos was good:

Along with Spotify, SoundCloud is one of the two most efficacious musical delivery systems to emerge since the ascension of the iPod. Its one-click shareability, in particular, was so successful that nearly every music blog to emerge in its wake has oriented itself to SoundCloud — whose usability as an embedded player for blogs and social media pre-dates Spotify’s by five years. So, too, every new record label, every songwriter with a new tune, every DJ with a new set, every producer with a dream. SoundCloud allowed users to make their pages and streams private and invite-only — perfect for publicists and labels, who could distribute yet-to-be-released new music selectively to writers and DJs without the hassle of the labyrinthine, laborious downloading and streaming systems the majors began using in the late 2000s. “We’re in the Wild West with streaming, still,” one publicist says. “Why have five clicks when you can have just one?” The idea of SoundCloud suddenly going away, the publicist says, would be “like hearing, ‘The U.S. mail isn’t delivering CDs anymore’ in the late Nineties.”

What is the difference between Soundcloud and Bandcamp vs. Reverb Nation?

mixcloud is good for posting mixes

it's not really built for individual tracks, i don't think, though.

Reverb Nation is only used by terrible local bands iirc, and also has an icky '7 marketing tips to get gigs!' music biz angle.

out of curiosity what would y'all like to see in a soundcloud alternative that would also be likely to last longer than soundcloud?

xp - both soundcloud and bandcamp also have "useful tips" biz angle stuff they send you ... but I always thought of Reverb Nation as one of those EPK sites, as opposed to just digital music

I feel like they could have done the same thing with more ads tbh.
