Ordinarily I'd criticize a man for tucking in his windbreaker. But Keith Hernandez obviously knew how special that goddamn waistband was. pic.twitter.com/0TVfkB2Lup— Super 70s Sports (@Super70sSports) April 6, 2018

Is that Ken Oberkfell on right before he grew his beard? Tommy Herr on the left I believe.

Okay all your sceptics! I’m officially blue checked! I’m Keith Hernandez! Have a good day. Feel good about your Mets. I do. Long way to go.— keith Hernandez (@kher8286) April 10, 2018

Seinfeld Night V on Saturday, August 4th. The first 2,000 fans in attendance will receive a Keith Hernandez Talking Alarm Clock Giveaway. It's real, and it's spectacular -- tickets on sale at 10 AM. pic.twitter.com/jfudmEOGlk— Brooklyn Cyclones (@BKCyclones) April 25, 2018

What a night and early morning last night. Gary said he never been longer at a ballpark in his entire career. Bus left hotel at 10am. Game finished at 1:30am, didn’t get back to hotel till 2:30am. You do the math. Second game was horrific. Typical, young, unpolished relievers— keith Hernandez (@keithhernandez) May 29, 2018

I liked the video during his number retirement ceremony today, where other Mets/friends spoke out his life story in the first person. Huge huge standing ovation for Mookie Wilson who was also in attendance.

He's the highest ranked non-HOF first baseman on Jay Jaffe's JAWS list if you eliminate 1) guys who are going to make it (Pujols, Cabrera, Votto, and--trickier, maybe--Helton) and 2) PED cases (McGwire, Palmeiro). He's right on the fence at 60.3 career bWAR. Assuming his drug past is no longer an issue, I think he will go in via the Veteran's Committee within the next decade or so (one of many players who may benefit from Baines's induction).

can't remember the details but someone on twitter was recently touting him as basically the best-fielding first baseman of all time -- and that no other player who led his position in gold gloves hadn't made the hall
i think we can all agree that gold gloves are not dispositive. but he was pretty good (and has subsequently been v. good for baseball, even if that's not immediately relevant)

I think it was Scott Boras
