Tiptoes killed Matthew Bright's career.

Alex in SF, Monday, 11 May 2009 15:30 (fifteen years ago) link

Matthew Bright

Trivia
Was an original member of the Mystic Knights of the Oingo Boingo, a theatrical band founded by the Elfman brothers (Danny Elfman and Richard Elfman) in late 1972. The band morphed into rock band Oingo Boingo in 1980, at which point most of the originals left.

Grew up with composer Danny Elfman and director Richard Elfman. As Matthew got beaten up in high school, Danny would usually get Richard to protect him.

so weird to me that a movie with famous people that existed in 2003 is the hot meme discovery of 2009. i mean, i never heard of it until now either, but it seems weird that blogs are like CHECK OUT THIS SHIT WE UNEARTHED. was it somehow not funny enough to be viral six years ago? Pre-YouTube era made it harder to share?

Whiney G. Weingarten, Monday, 11 May 2009 16:51 (fifteen years ago) link

At the premiere at Sundance, writer-director Matthew Bright scathingly denounced the film. He didn't watch the movie and said he never will. (`It's like making love to your ex-wife.') Bright apparently got into an argument with the financier of the film over creative differences. I think what I heard is that Bright wanted to close with a love scene between Oldman (playing a dwarf) and Kate Beckinsale. I guess the money-guy just didn't think the American public was ready for this. Anyway, according to Bright, he was fired from the movie and a bunch of inexperienced hacks who know nothing about the movie business finished the film. Bright said neither he nor none of the artists were paid a dime and that they didn't support the movie. Maybe this explains why this was such a disappointing film.

velko, Monday, 11 May 2009 17:09 (fifteen years ago) link

matthew bright was in forbidden zone

鬼の手 (Edward III), Monday, 11 May 2009 17:12 (fifteen years ago) link

“He was on his knees,” Beckinsale explained. “He was basically on his knees with a prosthetic part of his head and face and a hump and different kinds of harnesses to strap his arms back to make them short, and special clothes. They had various different effects, like if he was sitting in a chair, his legs would actually be inside the chair and he’d have these little fake legs sticking out on top. It was amazing what they did with him.” [
