arrieta was good today

na (NA), Sunday, 2 July 2017 19:38 (six years ago) link

yeah he looked solid, effective but not dominant

k3vin k., Sunday, 2 July 2017 19:40 (six years ago) link

verlander somewhat less so

mookieproof, Sunday, 2 July 2017 20:03 (six years ago) link

scherzer has 5 strikeouts through 6, and this cardinals lineup is due for a complete embarrassing implosion so i'd expect several more

one month passes...

Sale-Sabathia. More like a marquees-passing-in-the-night match-up. And they have the same initials. At least I think they do--I'm not sure.

clemenza, Saturday, 19 August 2017 15:33 (six years ago) link

I was looking at the Red Sox schedule to gauge if I'm going to see Sale, and it looks good; he's scheduled to go on Tuesday, Aug. 29, and I'm down there on the 28/29/30.

Also noticed how close a Sale/Kluber match-up this Thursday is; it would require a Cleveland rainout or, as a gift to the world, holding back Kluber an extra day.

three weeks pass...

Greinke-Bumgarner...who still looks marquee to me, abbreviated season and terrible team aside.

clemenza, Saturday, 16 September 2017 14:00 (six years ago) link

nine months pass...

Severino-Price? Price is having a pretty good year--probably not marquee-level anymore, though.

clemenza, Sunday, 1 July 2018 16:00 (five years ago) link

Kluber/Seve--never mind.

against all odds, scherzer/hamels is a good battle so far

na (NA), Monday, 13 August 2018 01:21 (five years ago) link

Kershaw-Bumgarner tonight (almost nostalgic)

Need David Letterman: Noah, Nola; Nola, Noah.

Scherzer-Nola tonight

scherzer with 83 pitches through four innings -- 24 of them fouled off

deGrom-Sale scheduled for Sunday at Fenway. (tho i guess Sale will go 2 innings)

a Mets fan who gave up on everything in the mid '80s (Dr Morbius), Thursday, 13 September 2018 18:22 (five years ago) link

3-4 innings, Sox say

Besides the Sale-deGrom partial match-up, there's Verlander/Greinke.

clemenza, Sunday, 16 September 2018 15:00 (five years ago) link

Kershaw-Freeland.

clemenza, Tuesday, 18 September 2018 15:11 (five years ago) link

eleven months pass...

Scherzer-deGrom; definite Cy Young implications.

clemenza, Tuesday, 3 September 2019 23:59 (four years ago) link

Freeland? I should stick with actual marquee match-ups.

clemenza, Wednesday, 4 September 2019 00:00 (four years ago) link

Well played, Hyun-jin Ryu.

four years pass...

Scherzer-Verlander! I rarely root against either of them, but I want the Astros to win 1-0 tonight. (The game is free on mlb.com.)

clemenza, Wednesday, 6 September 2023 18:23 (seven months ago) link

I want anyone but the Astros to win.

I have to admit, I have been very impressed with Altuve lately.

immodesty blaise (jimbeaux), Wednesday, 6 September 2023 18:25 (seven months ago) link

Realistically, I think any Jays fan assumes Texas will be easier to stay ahead of.

How's this for complicated wording?

Justin Verlander & Max Scherzer will be the 1st former Cy Young winners to be teammates earlier in a season and THEN face each other later in that season, with both pitching for different teams than where they were teammates

clemenza, Wednesday, 6 September 2023 18:27 (seven months ago) link

I'm not sure the last bit is even necessary--I would think "1st former Cy Young winners to be teammates earlier in a season and THEN face each other later in that season" would be enough.

clemenza, Wednesday, 6 September 2023 18:28 (seven months ago) link

So much for that--Scherzer's getting hammered.

clemenza, Thursday, 7 September 2023 00:54 (seven months ago) link

from reddit:

This was the 19th straight Rangers game without a starting pitcher W. The last time their starter recorded a win was August 15.

Cole vs Burnes yesterday did not disappoint.

NoTimeBeforeTime, Monday, 11 September 2023 09:18 (seven months ago) link

two weeks pass...

Verlander-Castillo, and two nose-diving teams trying to hang on.
