I really like the "unreleased" tracks and the idea that it's a kind of lost Purple Rain era album but I find surprising that they don't really sound like things on Purple Rain (except "Computer Blue", of course).
More like 1999 era tracks or even Parade era.

Album version of Andre Cymone's Dance Electric is 5:31, which nails it IMO.

Even a 1986 box would be almost too massive

Not sure I was ever able to track down a copy of this one ...

no way "wonderful ass" was recorded before "need you tonight / mediate"

then W&L took it and worked on it some more in '86. So yeah it was already fully gestating before INXS

The Vault (book) suggests both songs were influenced by "Subterranean Homesick Blues" in their use of the "-ate" rhymes.

Jungle Love demo!! Wonderful Ass Prince-only version is so fucking cool.

This is basically a rip of a giant boot collection that appeared a few days ago. Blessings to the uploader. :)

Acid Hose (Capitaine Jay Vee), Wednesday, 26 July 2017 04:34 (six years ago) link

A new giant (4 cd's) boot collection. Many tracks have been out there for years but there's a ton of new and previously unheard things on here. The mythical Wally included.

Acid Hose (Capitaine Jay Vee), Wednesday, 26 July 2017 04:36 (six years ago) link

wow first disc is amazing on contact.
um, if anyone ends up with mp3s, flacs, etc; please give a shout here?

That early version of "Our Destiny" is great. I feel like I'm listening to a covert recording of the Broadway premiere.

Champiness, Wednesday, 26 July 2017 06:32 (six years ago) link

I'm beginning to wonder just exactly how much of his life he actually spent in the recording studio... the guy seems to have been either writing, recording, playing or touring and I'm surprised he managed to make time for anything else!

The Anti-Climax Blues Band (Turrican), Wednesday, 26 July 2017 07:15 (six years ago) link

one of my favorite parts of the sheila e book was when she described what it was like when she and prince hung out. she had built a little studio in her room and they would basically just hang in there and make music and then occasionally leave to do other stuff that friends do, like go get ice cream. being friends with prince sounded idyllic.

I can't get over Our Destiny/Roadhouse Garden. I always want to listen to it twice if I listen to it once.

weird woman in a bar (La Lechera), Wednesday, 26 July 2017 12:26 (six years ago) link

yeah he seemed to be thinking/making music all the time.
I remember an interview from someone in his entourage saying that they were taking a domestic flight and he was working on something/writing during the whole flight then when they arrived he rushed to a studio and started recording what he had been working on the plane : it was like 10 songs for sign O the times !

The same user just uploaded BFTP 5.0 ( another 4 cd's). This surpasses the Purple Rain Deluxe joy for me 100x. Incredible amount of stuff in one wave.

Someone think of me when ysi happens on these, thx

Is there a way to pull individual tracks from that site, or can each volume only be downloaded/streamed as a single long track/mix?

Josh in Chicago, Wednesday, 26 July 2017 13:18 (six years ago) link

um, if anyone ends up with mp3s, flacs, etc; please give a shout here?

yeah this

sleeve, Wednesday, 26 July 2017 13:56 (six years ago) link

I mean, I used some sort of in-browser service to download 4.0 and 5.0, but each volume is one long track.

Josh in Chicago, Wednesday, 26 July 2017 13:58 (six years ago) link

Thanks for the recommendation. Loved BFTP Vols 1-3 and Vol 4 is sounding terrific so far. Look forward to the eventual flac shares.

I found download links for BFTP 4 and 5, I think. Download is still in progress but looks like MP3 judging by the size of the zip. Without killing the golden goose, there is an easily searchable Prince google group where people upload all manner of things. The name of the google group is the three letter initialization of Prince's second-best band, suffixed by a basic mathematical symbol which resembles a cross.
