grover nordquist lol.

Doncha see!?! Taxes are theft, and we shouldn't have to pay for wasteful Big Government tyranny like patent courts, anti-E.coli measures, or federal insurance for banks!

kingfish, Tuesday, 26 June 2007 20:11 (sixteen years ago) link

But we should have to pay for big fucking Alaskan bridges.

lol there are actual people opposed to campaign finance reform? and the fairness doctrine? and how in the world do those things "enhance the power of the state"????

Tracer Hand, Wednesday, 27 June 2007 17:10 (sixteen years ago) link

Also, these people really do see the fairness doctrine as Big Gummint coming in to silence the poor oppressed souls of rightwing talk radio, and just trying to to run them out of business by allowing more than just straight RNC talking point 24/7. The State is obviously trying to clamp down on their freedom of speech with FCC licensing requirements for broadcasting such as news breaks, station identification, and so on. Why should they have to do anything just becuase they're monopolizing a part of the publicly-owned RF spectrum?

kingfish, Wednesday, 27 June 2007 22:32 (sixteen years ago) link

the one about socialism is... well it's crazy that anyone would draw that in 2007! doth protest too much, etc.

Tracer Hand, Wednesday, 27 June 2007 23:26 (sixteen years ago) link

political cartoons being what they are, one begins to wonder if constant strawmanning leads to either self-awareness(probly not) or stylistic boredom

Neil S, Friday, 29 June 2007 10:02 (sixteen years ago) link

I've been reading the comics from the guy who did the Al Gore and Rosie O'Donnell and Jane Fonda ones upthread for months now and I swear to god that the last panel is missing. You know, the one with the punchline?!?

I read the first panel and the next (if there is one) and then...nothing.

righteousmaelstrom, Friday, 29 June 2007 14:58 (sixteen years ago) link

Seriously crappy artwork as well.

Neil S, Friday, 29 June 2007 15:00 (sixteen years ago) link

If there is no last panel and punchline then you just have to improvise

dmr, Friday, 29 June 2007 18:25 (sixteen years ago) link

i think the talking point is the fetus beginning to focus on who's legal and who ain't

No, the fetus is saying that at some point it was illegal. Fetuses are illegal at some point in their development? Who ever claimed that? What the fucking bleeding crying FUCK??

Gee, y'know, they're right; american politicians and media-types should talk about the poor & hungry more. Oh wait, but they're all millionaires, so if they do so, they'll be commie hypocrits!

Again, standard authoritarian practice: ignore all and any history or its context that you can't bend to your purpose, endlessly defend your leaders and viciously attack anyone who dares question them, UNTIL they don't do something rightwing enough for you, then cast them aside and stomp on them as soon as possible.

I have to say that thumbs-up Osama is the best thing to happen to comics since the Yellow Kid

J0hn D., Saturday, 30 June 2007 18:43 (sixteen years ago) link

WTF on the malaria one:

1) DDT is HARDLY the only insecticide used for killing mosquitoes and I feel comfortable in saying that even IF one were to discount the environmental issues inherent in the use of DDT, it's not even the most effective available insecticide currently in use.
2) Is this guy suggesting that we should be giving more support to countries in which malaria is rampant? If so, why not say it in a less oblique fashion? Or is he strawmanning mass death by disease in order to back up a poorly thought out anti-environmental talking point?
3) Batshit rightwing cartoonist guy, are you ACTUALLY arguing against bald eagles and for DDT? Really?
4) So DDT and/or chemicals with a similar makeup are not being used in outside the US at all, huh? And there are bald eagles in countries with rampant malarial infection, huh?
5) STOP JUST STOP JUST STOP
