lukas, thanks so much for making this! It is clean, simple and FAST: the ILX spirit in a nutshell.

If you are still looking for feedback, I would second most of the notes already made, and add only that being able to view my full Bookmarks page (in tandem with having some kind of Control-F analogue) would be excellent (I had to switch to browser to find this thread and post this), that some stylesheet customizability would be great (mainly though I just want quoted text to show up in a shaded box - it's a little too easy to miss the thin vertical line next to the text), and that something like the 'three years pass...' dividers for dormant threads would be good so you have to use less of your brain to catch where the current revive begins. But imho this is a really solid base, and probably more than 80 percent of the way to completely providing the ilx experience in the palm of my hand! Bravo.

I still want to use it but can't figure out how to get it sync with my browser sessions

Moodles, Monday, 26 June 2017 14:53 (six years ago) link

cosign casino's post, it's a great app

niels, Monday, 26 June 2017 15:39 (six years ago) link

hi, new version up that detects crossposts and saves drafts.

more to come, slowly.

Thanks, Lukas!

ArchCarrier, Tuesday, 27 June 2017 19:29 (six years ago) link

Moodles, what's happening? When you first logged into the app, did you see all your bookmarks, it's just that updates don't sync? Or did you not see your bookmarks?

Uhura Mazda (lukas), Tuesday, 27 June 2017 19:38 (six years ago) link

If I open the app, i see my bookmarks come up correctly, but then if I update them, nothing carries over to my browser

I was able to successfully post, maybe I need to play with it more

Moodles, Tuesday, 27 June 2017 20:28 (six years ago) link

woo!

another minor thought: maybe a little dot on the right hand side, or horizontal 'progress bar' tucked into the thread title bar, to indicate how close you are to the bottom of the thread?

﴿→ ☺ (Doctor Casino), Wednesday, 28 June 2017 14:08 (six years ago) link

I can confirm the bookmarks-not-carrying-over issue - if it helps, it seems to only be an issue for switching to browser on this same device. On my desktop, all bookmarks are correctly updated. So maybe it's actually an issue with how Android or the Chrome app are handling the browser cache?

﴿→ ☺ (Doctor Casino), Thursday, 29 June 2017 12:00 (six years ago) link

also a feature for opening ilxor thread links in-app instead of launching browser?

niels, Monday, 3 July 2017 14:06 (six years ago) link

More misc ideas/notes (emphatically not demands - I am using the shit out of this app so in general count me as satisfied!):

* some shortcut function that loads the whole thread and puts you at the top would be real handy. I'm using this a lot on the subway when I kinda just want to load up a meaty thread for a 'longform' read, so scrolling up and whacking the load-more button repeatedly feels a bit kludgey.

* crosspost warning doesn't seem to work quite right - dumps you back to the thread, without the new post you're crossing, so you can't really adjust your reply or anything. then if you go to your reply and try to post it again, it still thinks you've got an xpost even though it's the same "new" post that's blocking you up... have to go back out to threads/bookmarks and back in for it to shake out of this.

* in general if my connection comes and goes or if I switch from data to wifi, the threads/bookmarks get hung up in a spinning refresh icon. have to force close the app and restart. that's pretty easy on my phone but I wonder if there is an easy fix?

* shortcut buttons to add bbbcode to replies (maybe another icon above the pink pencil?) would be great. ideally one could select txt and click to have it be bold, quotes, whatever, but I dunno how hard that would be.

* when writing a long post like this one, the pink pencil covers up what you're writing.

still groovin!

thanks again for making this. i'm using it more and more (it's mostly muscle memory to go to my phone's browser)

two weeks pass...

through no fault of my own, Flagging started showing errors on top of threads. just pushed 1.9 to fix that.

1.10 should be available soon. Two new, undiscoverable features: tap thread title to scroll to top of thread, long press on "load earlier messages" to load the entire thread. Few other minor things.

Does the "Bookmarks" tab show the board list for anyone else?

barbarian radge (NotEnough), Tuesday, 8 August 2017 11:02 (six years ago) link

oh NM, I hadn't updated the app, all good now.

Thanks v much for this app, it's great and all, but I echo other's requests for a progress bar/scroll bar so I know how far down the page I am. Doesn't need to be on the right hand side necessarily - actually, a progress bar at the bottom would be dope.

barbarian radge (NotEnough), Tuesday, 8 August 2017 11:08 (six years ago) link

there are a few threads that for some reason I can't load in the app, here's an example:
The Blue Nile: C or D?

niels, Tuesday, 8 August 2017 11:33 (six years ago) link

Cool additions! Thank you!

Another suggestion (sorry!): at least for me, having the Bookmarks tab disappear from the home screen when all your bookmarks are up to date isn't really functional, because when one of my bookmarked threads does update, the tab doesn't come back, or weird "stuck on the loading icon" stuff happens similar to when I move between wifi and cell data, and I have to close the app and restart it to get a proper refresh. So I end up leaving a token thread not bookmarked at the bottom, which is a bit silly. I'd prefer the tab just always be there, even if it's empty... but maybe that's just me! Not higher priority than getting access to Search, Preferences, Flag Post, etc... just something I've noticed in the course of my (pretty heavy!) daily use of this app.

NotEnough, can you check in settings which version you have? Version 1.10 should have a scroll bar on the right side when reading a thread (small, only appears when scrolling.)

Uhura Mazda (lukas), Wednesday, 9 August 2017 04:06 (six years ago) link

just my two cents, but I'd prefer clicking bookmark on a thread did not automatically send me back to the list of bookmarks - it's something my thumb does while my eyes are still reading the bottom couple of posts. maybe it could be made optional?

yellow is the color of some raisins (Doctor Casino), Friday, 18 August 2017 18:22 (six years ago) link

The app shouldn't break after changing networks any more, so hopefully needing to restart it is a thing of the past. Fixed all bugs with threads not loading that I know about, let me know if I missed any.

Uhura Mazda (lukas), Wednesday, 23 August 2017 21:11 (six years ago) link

I've been unable to post from Flagging this afternoon. Not sure when the last time I successfully posted the app was though. Every time I clicked on the little icon to make a post, it would close the app, including after I saw your post above.

Just rolled out 1.14 which should fix your problem, HL. Might take a couple hours to be available.

Just updated(!) and yeah would love it if this could be optional as I'm experiencing the same...

kinder, Saturday, 23 September 2017 09:55 (six years ago) link

I adore the fact that you click on a bookmark and it takes you back to the list of bookmarks. Making it optional so I can keep this behaviour would be cool.

barbarian radge (NotEnough), Saturday, 23 September 2017 16:43 (six years ago) link

haha i'm now actually kind of used to it so yeah i stand behind the idea of making it optional :D

but i stand behind adding search, full list of one's bookmarks, some kind of Control-F, and Flag Post as the most critical features missing, versus desktop ILX. still a hell of an app, gets that low-impact ILX vibe totally.

Doctor Casino, Saturday, 23 September 2017 16:54 (six years ago) link

not supporting flag post yet is kinda hilarious

Hmm - any way this could be jiggered to include sticky top-level announcements, like the current one for the annual hosting fundraiser?

Doctor Casino, Saturday, 21 October 2017 13:59 (six years ago) link

i imagine the testing of that will be difficult, given how rare they are.

(best take some screenshots and grab the html source now!)

While you are updating: would it be possible to remove the title of the last visited bookmark when there are no more unread bookmarks?

ArchCarrier, Friday, 10 November 2017 22:13 (six years ago) link

deleted threads persist in board lists/sna as well as bookmark. can't remove them from the latter by the long-press method (get "server error" pop-up message).

opened flagging for the first time in a week and bookmarks appeared for every single bookmarked thread that had been updated since then. these bookmarks now exist in other browsers as well and have to be cleared/updated one by one

mookieproof, Thursday, 18 January 2018 21:37 (six years ago) link

Isn't that the way bookmarks work?

ArchCarrier, Friday, 19 January 2018 13:45 (six years ago) link

you dan't do this in Flagging, but in a browser go to Bookmarks. You can mass-delete bookmarks from there.
