They opened for Beach Slang a couple of years ago. I liked their 2015 album Imaginary Life quite a bit. "Plans" is great. If this is an indication of where they're going with their sound, I'm in.

so Creeper's Eternity, In Your Arms is basically the UK response to The Black Parade huh

oh shit i finally got around to listening to that creeper record and imo this is the record that comes closest to collapsing the pop-punk/glam metal dichotomy, it's so ambitious and embarrassing. i LOVE it

ToddBonzalez (BradNelson), Thursday, 6 July 2017 20:46 (six years ago) link

hahaha I was hoping you'd be into it!

a serious and fascinating fartist (Simon H.), Thursday, 6 July 2017 20:50 (six years ago) link

their economy is really impressive!

a serious and fascinating fartist (Simon H.), Thursday, 6 July 2017 21:04 (six years ago) link

I'm listening to this again and at least 20 bands have sprung to mind over the first 5 tracks, it's really something

a serious and fascinating fartist (Simon H.), Thursday, 6 July 2017 21:06 (six years ago) link

sorta wish the record had mcr-quality sharpness in its production, it's real foggy sounding, but that's my only complaint so far

ToddBonzalez (BradNelson), Thursday, 6 July 2017 21:21 (six years ago) link

has anyone heard this record from 2011? would've been a good fit in our emo poll tbh

someone posted it in the manchester orchestra thread on chorus.fm

ToddBonzalez (BradNelson), Friday, 7 July 2017 15:55 (six years ago) link

the opening track on the Turtlenecked record really reminds me of Say Anything

absolutely loving the Katie Ellen record (also x-posted to the twee thread)

ILM's Rolling Emo Thread 2017 Spotify Playlist

saw Turtlenecked the other night...they're like Weezer meets Of Montreal or something? or is that insane?

great Rosenstock set at Pitchfork, featuring a few amusing surprises I will not spoil and all of the Worry medley except for "Blast Damage Days"

i've been enjoying the new s/t album from The Life and Times:

https://thelifeandtimes.bandcamp.com/album/the-life-and-times

that's Allen Epley from Shiner plus a couple other dudes. shimmering guitar-rock that's shoegazey at times. think it sorta fits in this thread.

I feel like the emo thread's been a bit sleepy this year. more emo!

a serious and fascinating fartist (Simon H.), Thursday, 27 July 2017 03:44 (six years ago) link

i need to listen to more :/

Spottie, Thursday, 27 July 2017 03:55 (six years ago) link

when I get up tomorrow I'll cobble together a halftime+ list

a serious and fascinating fartist (Simon H.), Thursday, 27 July 2017 04:07 (six years ago) link

not as many bangers as the past couple years.

alpine static, Thursday, 27 July 2017 07:15 (six years ago) link

emo/pop-punk/dogs on skateboards/etc albums I have been enjoying this year to varying degrees, using a loose genre definition as always:

Sorority noise
Mystery Weekend
Hater
Creeper
Katie Ellen
Ratboys
Smidley
Charly Bliss
Rozwell Kid
Cayetana
Turtlenecked
Single Mothers

a serious and fascinating fartist (Simon H.), Thursday, 27 July 2017 21:12 (six years ago) link

i haven't been keeping up as much

are you shitting me that julie doiron is in a punk band

ToddBonzalez (BradNelson), Thursday, 27 July 2017 21:13 (six years ago) link

yeah I have never cared about Cancer Bats but I am excited for this development

can Kathleen Edwards come back and front NOFX?

a serious and fascinating fartist (Simon H.), Thursday, 27 July 2017 21:17 (six years ago) link

thanks simon, have only heard one of those (sorority noise).

Spottie, Thursday, 27 July 2017 23:46 (six years ago) link

oh shit I forgot Smith St Band but I assume y'all have already heard that

that said, so far none of these are EOY list contenders save for Sorority Noise and maybe Katie Ellen

a serious and fascinating fartist (Simon H.), Thursday, 27 July 2017 23:49 (six years ago) link

of your list i'd say creeper and charly bliss

ToddBonzalez (BradNelson), Thursday, 27 July 2017 23:57 (six years ago) link

"hiding with boys" has changed my life

ToddBonzalez (BradNelson), Thursday, 27 July 2017 23:58 (six years ago) link

hahaha I KNEW that would be yr fave. great song. the whole album really levels up starting there

a serious and fascinating fartist (Simon H.), Friday, 28 July 2017 01:21 (six years ago) link

I almost think we should have a dedicated thread for them cause I'm about to dig into their three EPs, two of which apparently extend the "story" (lol) of this album

a serious and fascinating fartist (Simon H.), Friday, 28 July 2017 01:27 (six years ago) link

Manchester orchestra is out on Spotify now

Spottie, Friday, 28 July 2017 08:04 (six years ago) link

creeper album cover has me intrigued

Spottie, Friday, 28 July 2017 08:06 (six years ago) link

spottie check out the creeper record! i think you'll find stuff to like about it

the manchester orchestra record is officially my album of the year until further notice bc i started crying within twenty seconds of the first song

ToddBonzalez (BradNelson), Friday, 28 July 2017 13:31 (six years ago) link

^^^ welcome to the rolling emo thread

ToddBonzalez (BradNelson), Friday, 28 July 2017 13:31 (six years ago) link

i made an album thread for cope a few years ago that got no traction whatsoever but i feel like doing it again for a black mile to the surface

ToddBonzalez (BradNelson), Friday, 28 July 2017 13:34 (six years ago) link

yeah Spottie the Creeper album rules. as it turns out the EPs are also great and kinda make up a sweet album of their own

a serious and fascinating fartist (Simon H.), Friday, 28 July 2017 13:49 (six years ago) link

that manch orch album opener is really great. listened to the whole thing a couple times today. really nice album, seems a little more reserved than past work? Guess i didnt really dive into Cope much but Mean Everything to Nothing def had a little more bombast

Spottie, Friday, 28 July 2017 19:25 (six years ago) link

The Maze will be a show stopper live ,for sure. When those background singers come in...

Spottie, Friday, 28 July 2017 19:27 (six years ago) link

having discovered Emmylou Harris Wrecking Ball and this within a couple days of each other all i can do is fight internally about which album opener is better.

Spottie, Friday, 28 July 2017 19:28 (six years ago) link

About halfway through this Creeper record and getting really heavy Sing the Sorrow era AFI vibes. Loving it.

Misery is like the most emo song ever"

Pretty, but he don't tell you about it
Winter scarves and skirts of velvet
Still drink just like we did in school
I passed your old house down by the cemetery
Club nights and university
When your friends sing 'Born to Run', baby, resist
Cause we were 'Born to Drift'

If you could see the wreck I am these days
You'd have new reasons to stay away
Just hold my hand for a little while
Misery never goes out of style

Spottie, Friday, 28 July 2017 19:32 (six years ago) link

yeah I keep noticing clever little lines in there

a serious and fascinating fartist (Simon H.), Saturday, 29 July 2017 01:57 (six years ago) link

ok brad otm about manchester also started tearing up 20 seconds in i have no idea why but damn

Mordy, Saturday, 29 July 2017 02:00 (six years ago) link

Misery is like the most emo song ever

I may or may not have listened to it a dozen times during my commutes about town today
