No 'Call Me' in the list?

For anyone who hasn't listened to it, their 1999 "comeback" album No Exit has some great stuff on it aside from "Maria." "Double Take" and "The Dream's Lost On Me" rank among my very favourite Blondie tracks.

Yeah. After hearing a couple of the advance tracks, I wasn't sure as I was gonna bother with it, but as long as I'm going on a Blondie binge...

I'm going to find it very hard to vote for anything by nu-Blondie... and probably anything from The Hunter while we're at it.

What's worse: the music on The Hunter, or Debbie's 'do on the album cover?

That's a difficult choice, really. The music on The Hunter is mostly awful, but Debbie's 'do on the album cover looks as if it influenced Chad Kroeger, so very difficult.

No Harry solo, right? Otherwise "I Want That Man," a favorite karaoke number of mine, can't fit.

Yeah, I agree that Eat to the Beat is no Parallel Lines, but it comes close enough and really, that's the best that Blondie and Mike Chapman could have hoped for when they went into the studio to make. The only thing that I'd actually change about Eat to the Beat is its shit title.

I just made a quick list and was surprised how many songs I wanted to include from the first album. I always think of Eat To The Beat and Parallel Lines battling it out for my favourite Blondie album, but it actually could be the debut.

If Mike Chapman is to be believed, Autoamerican was the easiest album of them all to make and The Hunter was the hardest.

thanks for taking over this poll Nate. one reason i gave up on it is because all my past polls i knew the artist inside and out. with Blondie there were some gaps but looking forward to diving into this catalog.

As a complete sucker for '60s girl groups, "Slow Motion" might be my number one.

I've said it before, but few more perfect expressions of desire and, ah, rapture exit than the line "Your hair is beautiful," buttressed by how ominous the song becomes after the chord change.

I can tell you now my #1 and #2 are "Pretty Baby" and "Dreaming," and after that I can pick and choose.

Not to be all hipster but there's also "Poets Problem," from the b-side of the "Presence, Dear" single. It's a really good Jimmy Destri song.

Also "Llámame," the Spanish-language "Call Me."

I just threw together a ballot of my favorites, which wasn't v difficult given that Parallel Lines is literally one of the first albums I remember hearing/seeing (the other is the SNF soundtrack)

Yes, "Angels on the Balcony" is a nice song. (Also "Live It Up" from that album.)

I must rep for "Accidents Never Happen" which has always been a big favourite of mine. Jimmy Destri was a great songwriter for a while there.

Destri their best songwriter: consistently interesting.

I kinda lump the original run of Blondie LP's into pairs: Blondie & Plastic Letters obviously come from the same place, as do Parallel Lines & Eat to the Beat, with Autoamerican & The Hunter being some kind of attempt at branching out.

"Scenery" is a nifty obscure Blondie demo... I think this might sneak onto my ballot. I'd forgotten it, but I first heard it on that "Blonde & Beyond" comp from the early 90s. Along with "X Offender" and "Presence, Dear," it really make me wish Gary Valentine had written more songs for the band...

I like "Tide Is High" as a song, but Blondie's version is not my favorite version so I can't see voting for it.

'Rapture' > 'The Tide Is High' ... although 'Rapture' is possibly my least favourite of Blondie's "disco" numbers...

genuinely baffled as to how anything but Union City Blue could possibly win. it has a unique atmosphere that song; you never hear anything else with quite that kind of upbeat yearning quality to it. IMO.

It very well could end up my #1, but I haven't banged out a ballot yet.
