Probably not the best song on here, but I'm voting for "Cookie Bay" because when else will I have a chance to vote for this track in a poll?

This is spooky, I didn't know there was anybody but me who rated both "Plant White Roses" and "San Diego Zoo" that high on the list of Merritt's recorded output

Though if you really push me I probably swap Zoo for "Dream Hat"

Impossible for me to vote on this, at the very least

Plant White Roses
Groove is in the Heart
Cannonball
Radiation Vibe

are on my short all-time list and then there are others here ("Steal My Sunshine," "Seether,") which so perfectly capture what I liked about the feeling of being alive at that time.

That was kind of hard since I love all those songs, but I went with Elliott Smith. "Angeles" is heavenly.

Eels - PS You Rock My World

if it was the full poll though, would've chosen Trailer Trash by Modest Mouse

Ha! my 2nd favorite song from him in the 6ths is dream hat. I've seen many people choose 100,000 fireflies over Roses from that MF album but I need to have to be in a particular mood for that one wheres Roses always sounds great to me.

My whole life until looking at Moka's list I thought "Female of the Species" was by Cake. It almost feels like how could it not be?

Haha it does sound a bit like them now that you mention it. One of those songs that are here purely driven by nostalgia.

Throwing 'Polyesterday' (late version) a vote. God I hadn't heard that one in at least fifteen years I think.

In 1993 or 1994 I switched on 120 Minutes on mtv and they played a song which immediately overwhelmed me completely. That sad voice, that strange mix of folk and atmospheric music. It was like an enlightenment. An existential experience. The song was called "Roads".

Ich bin kein Berliner (alex in mainhattan), Tuesday, 27 June 2017 17:44 (six years ago) link

It seems weird to me how Roads was not a single, it's my favorite on the debut by a long shot... that bass solo, the strings, the organ, the heartbroken performance. Maybe not as obvious a single like Glory Box or Sour Times but it's certainly better than Numb.
