Voted random and got Eydie Gorme & Los Panchos. It's perhaps the most perennial Bolero Trio song in a huge collection of classics by Los Panchos.

"Transfusion" from the abridged list; "Transfusion" or "At the Hop" or "I Only Have Eyes for You" from the big one.

I Only Have Eyes for You won the best song of the 50's on the ILM poll. Glad it didn't appear in random as it might have been the clear winner.

Some recommendations, but if you've already mined the ILM poll, you may have already dismissed these:

João Gilberto - Desafinado
João Gilberto - Chega de Saudade
Lucho Gatica - Historia de un Amor
Connie Francis – Who’s Sorry Now?
Stelios Kazantzidis – Zigkouala
Mukesh – Awara Hoon
Santo & Johnny – Sleepwalk
Johnny Mathis – Misty
Farid Al-Atrash - Ana Willy Bahebo
Tito Rodriguez - Tremendo Cumban
Celia Cruz - Mi Sonsito

NickB: Yeah I'm still missing some huge jazz figures in here. Still a work in progress so many songs I need to listen to. Elmore James I need to listen to!

Le Bateau: glad you enjoy them. I love discovering music through other people's lists! Everyone on ILM should make one of these decade lists haha.

Rudi: "Historia de un Amor" is there. The other recommendations are dope and I'm seriously missing Joao Gilberto, Tito and Celia. There's many latin music I need to consider for inclusion.

Oddly enough I've never liked Santo & Johnny's Sleepwalking. It's a great piece of music but I've never felt particularly excited by it.

From the long list, it would be "Spoonful", then probably "Monk's Mood". From the short list, I'll take "Diddy Wah Diddy". Notable absences: Fats Domino, Ricky Nelson.

The more I hear it the more I think Jay Hawkins was actually insane.
