Looking forward to an upcoming collab album with the Black Twig Pickers.I bought a Jack Rose record from Mike Gangloff when he was in my town doing music with Pelt and Spiral Joy Band. I think it was a Dr Ragtime thing, I'm forgetting the name right now. It's really good, collaboration record with a bunch of folks on it, instrumentals. Mike plays banjo on a lot of the tracks. I'll have to check on the name of the record at home.

He is indeed Fahey-esque: so much so that he even does the spoof liner notes thing on a couple of albums, signed "Joe R Sack, blues scholar".
I like him a lot - I really ought to get some more of his stuff.

Details on that Jack Rose/Black Twig Pickers record. Guess it is out!>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Members of Joy Band and Pelt join Jack Rose for the newest Jack/Twigs recordings - if you have enjoyed the collaborations on recent 7" and Dr. Ragtime records, then this is going to be a beautifulexperience!!! Shoudl be posted on Klang.org soon!!!!!
Raw and rocking collaboration between Jack Rose and the Black Twigs with some of the most swinging, hard-hitting string music waxed in many a decade. Rose’s solo playing has always had a tough edge, with his prodigious technique often employed in the service of dropping right-hand bombs – his use of a thumbpick originates from his years of duets with Twig Mike Gangloff, struggling to make his guitar heard over Gangloff’s crashing banjo. The front line of Rose and Gangloff’s strings are joined by Isak Howell’s no-nonsense guitar and harmonica and Nate Bowles’ variety of expert percussion. The four players lock together with a sure-footedness honed by frequent touring and a singularity of intent to rock. Gangloff takes the vocals, howling out standards like “Little Sadie” firmly in the old-time tradition – without reserve. A few of the tracks here are updates of Rose & family classics, with the group turning the stately “Kensington Blues” upbeat and an issuing an assured take on “Bright Sunny South,” first recorded by Pelt (w/Rose and Gangloff) back in 2001 on their gonzo classic double “Ayahuasca.”

sorry for the random update, but Three Lobed Recordings is extremelysad to pass along news that our dear friend Jack Rose passed away thismorning in Philadelphia at the age of 38. This news is still fresh tous and we're still trying to process it. Jack was a warm, caringperson and was always a pleasure to be around. His larger than lifespirit will truly, truly be missed even moreso than his inspiredmusical ability. Our deepest sorrow goes out to his wife.Rest in peace, Jack.Cory

I saw him pestered by a heckler to play "Kensington Blues" over and over at an instore at the old location of The True Vine in Baltimore and eventually he played it, with great humor and force and compassion. A great musician and a life-force. As I understand it through the grapevine, the heckler was a troubled guy who died not too long ago of a drug overdose, and now Jack's dead too.
I can't believe he's dead at 38. Jeez, I'm 38.

JACK ROSENEW SINGLE – ‘CHASING CARS’RELEASED ON 11TH DECEMBER 2015 Fourteen-year-old Kent-based, Jack Rose is set to release a brand new single on the 11th of December 2015. ‘Chasing Cars’ is the follow up to Jack’s debut single ‘Lost’ and is the young singer’s unique take on the classic Snow Patrol tune from 2006. Produced by Kevin Energy Thorpe from Big Jam Studios in Kent, the song will be accompanied by a stunning video by renowned film and music video director Mark J Blackman and produced by Inspiration Films (http://www.inspirationfilms.co.uk). The video will see Jack Rose star alongside TV and movie star Rosie Day and fellow actors Ceejay Sergeant, Michelle Archer and Graham Fletcher-Cook. Taking inspiration from Ed Sheeran, Nathan Grisdale, Chris Brown, Eminem, Bruno Mars, Sam Smith and Ty Dolla $ign, the multi-talented Jack Rose, although only fourteen, has already proven himself to be an accomplished singer-songwriter, rapper, actor and radio presenter, hosting the UK Top 30 Countdown Show on Hit Mix UK (www.hitmixuk.com) every Sunday between 7 and 9pm.
A rare talent, Jack’s last single ‘Lost’ picked up radio airplay within hours of being released and he gained between 500 and 1000 Twitter followers per day from all over the world.
Jack Rose is set to announce himself to a wider audience in the coming months and he is without doubt a name to watch in 2016 and beyond.

been heavy into this lately & absolutely loving it, esp his ragtime/old timey stuff has gone from being my least to most favourite. some combination of playing/thumbpick/micing on kensington blues makes the bass on tracks like flirtin with the undertaker bludgeon the song to death a bit, but dr ragtime & his pals sounds awesome and is pure joy
really enjoyed the remembrances, the points about his craftsmanship & attention to sonic details are very otm, and the bachman stuff in particular is v sweet and chimes with my starry-eyed memories of meeting jack
also just want to bask in this magnificent sentence again:
His ragtime songs were so powerful and executed with such precision and might that even “hipsters” got it.
the stuff about him 'owning' everything he did rang true, and makes me think more about how confidently and fruitfully he followed fahey, thriving in his shadow, following him upriver deep into the mountains in such of the source. watching some of his performances on youtube it's incredible how much he looks & dresses like fahey, as if his quest had started transformed him physically, presumably starting at that mighty right hand. and yeah, it's great to hear sundogs again, was a truly awesome piece to hear
