when the Trump project inevitably disintegrates it will be because of the sinister machinations of the shadowy elite made up of the Republican establishment the Deep State and the Rothschilds

soref, Wednesday, 31 May 2017 20:46 (six years ago) link

the media has its golden goose so the "project" (whatever that is) disintegrating not likely to happen. he could be impeached and exiled from the country and we will still hear about every single dumb thing he tweets for the rest of his and our livee.

impeachment or resignation or criminal charges of some sort is the disintegration I'm talking about, sorry if you would like that phrased differently.

"How does he claim to be a "rogue cartoonist" when one of his defining features is completely unquestioning loyalty to the president of the USA?"

this is trump's base generally; hence the focus on the evil media and derp state machinations to explain why having trump in charge isn't magically fulfilling all their dreams and changing the entire system.

Not sure if "derp state" is a typo or not, but I like it.

I'm sort of grimly fascinated by Ben Garrison. How does he claim to be a "rogue cartoonist" when one of his defining features is completely unquestioning loyalty to the president of the USA?

Trump had the conspiracy theorist types in his pocket from the get-go; had assumed that if he were ever to win he'd lose them instantly, like they'd have to think "welp, he's a lizard person/bilderberg stooge/whatever now". But the combative nature of his presidency, the fact that it always looks just about to fall apart, has made it so you can now maintain wake up sheeple cred while repping for the most powerful man in the United States.

as loony as Garrison is his attention to detail is pretty much unparalleled

frogbs, Thursday, 8 June 2017 17:47 (six years ago) link

Bit of a rubbish one this week, but just look at the detail on Trump's pecs, the biceps, the detail around the crotch, the big, manly hands. Phoar.

This will almost certainly end in a depiction of Trump simultaneously eviscerating an enemy and tenderly fucking the cartoonist.

carpet_kaiser, Wednesday, 21 June 2017 17:35 (six years ago) link

looks more like Loretta imo

soref, Wednesday, 21 June 2017 17:41 (six years ago) link

It's relevant because America's relationship with Trump is much like Leroy and Loretta's marriage. Trump is drunk again at a party and dancing with a floozy while wearing a lampshade. Loretta is spending Leroy's payceck at the department store again.

I'm not sure which one is which here, but it makes sense if you think about it.

I actually laughed an honest, non-ironic laugh at that one. I mean, look how absolutely ridiculous it is. How could that not be joke about a joke about a joke?

He's very serious, but I have to admit that I laughed too, because in the middle of all the transphobia he remembered to do the Shatner line delivery shtick - "You've ... gone ... too far!"

this isn't 'right-wing' but it is ridiculously low effort and stupid, and it annoys me that he re-drew Will Smith as Putin but drew Chris Rock as just regular Chris Rock with a label saying 'Ukraine' (while Putin has an entirely redundant label saying 'Putin'?). Conceptually muddled.

Are we spending our finite time on Earth wisely? And do we even grasp how finite that time is?

In the chapter we’ve excerpted below, Tim uses the tale of a made-up land called Hypothetica to show how easily people can be forced into saying—and eventually thinking—the same things. (The piece is longer than our usual fare, in part because of the illustrations, so consider printing it out or saving for this evening over a cocktail.)
