i feel you on that but i think amber and felix have great chemistry when they're riffing like in this episode (and i say that as someone who usually finds felix kind of tiring).

yeah this was one of amber's best eps, she may have not been out of her gourd for once lol

I wish Amber's other podcast wasn't with Sam Kriss (who's pretty much unreadable and unlistenable to me) - usually feel like she's the most on the ball Chapo or at least less enamored with Twitter humor.

China Mieville interview didn't make me want to read his book on the Russian revolution any more (and I'm a fan); I can understand a leftist backlash to characterising that period as entirely evil and catastrophic but seeing Lenin as flawed but admirable is kinda where I draw the line. Lots of cool imagery though.

Not as down on the West Wing as they are (the benefits of not watching it since it was on air) but I could only make it to the end of Jeff Daniels' stupid speech in the pilot. Sounds like it managed to get even worse, I almost want to hate watch it to see him cockblock himself repeatedly.

they're on a roll this week, bonus free episode yesterday about the UK election and a premium episode today about Texas congressional politics and pathologies.

uk election episode was an okay primer apart from will's slightly jarring enthusiasm for the ira, which i imagine sounds distinctly different to listeners on this side of the atlantic

the previous free episode with the rankings of conservative publications was fun but i wish they'd structured it a bit differently than having will just read chunks of the author's own article back at him

Might skip this one, not sure I like the idea of Chapo taking UK politics seriously.

what happened with Cross? i received a first-hand interviewer account a few years ago that suggested he's a rather nutty person.

nothing really, their celeb interview/guest episodes are just consistently not that interesting

The Cross episode was kind of fun because he objected to the premise of about 90% of their twitter boi jokes

it's amazing to me that Matt can go off on these incredible & engaging monologues about leftism and existentialism, and then reverts to idiotic jokes about Tesco. it's just fucking 7/11 with a different name. whenever they do British accents or make fun of British stuff they sound like the typical and contemptible "LOL bacon" people that they love eviscerating themselves.

also I've started listening to Cum Town way more religiously than Chapo. realizing they're just incredibly insufferable nerds ~40% of the time.

i mean, we could have a poll, Tesco vs. 7/11, but they're both just convenience stores. it was embarrassing hearing Matt ask Jonathan Shainin what Tesco was like, as if it were Oz or something. again, "LOL bacon" level humor.

tesco is a supermarket chain that has smaller branches called tesco metros. theses are definitely much more in the grocery store vein than 7/11s which are really corner stores and are for carbonated drinks, taquitos, freezies, cigarettes and scratch cards rather than like fruit and vegetables, things to make a meal from

ok so it's analogous to Wawa or Sheetz here in the States. last time I went to a Tesco was in Dublin a few months ago and it was an express one iirc. self-checkout and all that
