For a half second, I actually thought Satoshi Tomiie's "Tears" somehow nearly got into the top 10.

otm

ToddBonzalez (BradNelson), Thursday, 18 May 2017 15:52 (six years ago) link

Perfection.

insidious assymetrical weapons (Eric H.), Thursday, 18 May 2017 15:53 (six years ago) link

My number 1 just misses the top 10

i know kore-eda (or something), Thursday, 18 May 2017 15:57 (six years ago) link

too low

gospodin simmel, Thursday, 18 May 2017 15:58 (six years ago) link

Chaka can't have 2 in the top 10 can she?

i know kore-eda (or something), Thursday, 18 May 2017 15:58 (six years ago) link

Am pretty sure she just has one left, and shame on ILM.

insidious assymetrical weapons (Eric H.), Thursday, 18 May 2017 15:59 (six years ago) link

The amount of downtempo quiet storm stuff in the top 20 or so makes the pain of "Sugar Free"s omission that much tougher.

insidious assymetrical weapons (Eric H.), Thursday, 18 May 2017 16:00 (six years ago) link

ok wow i'd never heard "teardrops" before and i'm upset i didn't know about it sooner

dyl, Thursday, 18 May 2017 16:02 (six years ago) link

Huh, I've never heard it either!

Josh in Chicago, Thursday, 18 May 2017 16:03 (six years ago) link

Wtfx2

i know kore-eda (or something), Thursday, 18 May 2017 16:03 (six years ago) link

also as a sidenote i am glad about the high but not #1-threatening placements for "when doves cry" and "sexual healing" which would have been eyeroll-inducingly obvious winners

dyl, Thursday, 18 May 2017 16:04 (six years ago) link

Wtfx2

Seconded!

wtev, Thursday, 18 May 2017 16:05 (six years ago) link

also never heard

bass player in that Teardrops video coming very close to "at the wrong gig" before they cut him out completely between :45 and the end of the video

Dominique, Thursday, 18 May 2017 16:06 (six years ago) link

I don't know if I know 'Teardrops'! So this is shocking!

Voted for 'Give Me the Night', though. I thought for sure that one would get dissed.

human/hutt hybrid (Old Lunch), Thursday, 18 May 2017 16:08 (six years ago) link

I can only picture "Wanna Be Startin Somthing" or "I Feel For You" at #1 at this point. Nothing else that makes sense is coming to mind.

insidious assymetrical weapons (Eric H.), Thursday, 18 May 2017 16:09 (six years ago) link

Was Teardrops just massive in the UK? I remember it being top 3 (but never number 1) for what felt like months

i know kore-eda (or something), Thursday, 18 May 2017 16:10 (six years ago) link

iirc yes

regardless hmm seems like none of you paid attention in the campaigning thread

ToddBonzalez (BradNelson), Thursday, 18 May 2017 16:12 (six years ago) link

― insidious assymetrical weapons (Eric H.),

I wouldn't rule out Word Up or Ain't Nobody being at number one.

kitchen person, Thursday, 18 May 2017 16:13 (six years ago) link

Let me rephrase that. Oh dear R&B lords, please let either "Wanna Be Startin Somethin" or "I Feel For You" land #1!

insidious assymetrical weapons (Eric H.), Thursday, 18 May 2017 16:17 (six years ago) link

hm, too low somehow

ToddBonzalez (BradNelson), Thursday, 18 May 2017 16:19 (six years ago) link

We can boogie .. ON DOWN!

insidious assymetrical weapons (Eric H.), Thursday, 18 May 2017 16:20 (six years ago) link

just about right

dyl, Thursday, 18 May 2017 16:20 (six years ago) link

Really love the bridge on this.

insidious assymetrical weapons (Eric H.), Thursday, 18 May 2017 16:20 (six years ago) link

My EW&F votes went to "Fall in Love With Me" and "Lady Sun." Thrilled this made it anyway.

insidious assymetrical weapons (Eric H.), Thursday, 18 May 2017 16:21 (six years ago) link

Woah. Had this towards the very bottom of my ballot. Didn't really know if was so beloved, really.

and gliiiiiide like a 747

ToddBonzalez (BradNelson), Thursday, 18 May 2017 16:24 (six years ago) link

Raise right is up there with any other elecrofunk of the era.

insidious assymetrical weapons (Eric H.), Thursday, 18 May 2017 16:24 (six years ago) link

Woah. Had this towards the very bottom of my ballot. Didn't really know if was so beloved, really.

My reaction to "Teardrops," basically. Minus the part about it being on my ballot.

insidious assymetrical weapons (Eric H.), Thursday, 18 May 2017 16:25 (six years ago) link

'Let's Groove' was utterly expected. Maybe not in the top ten, but I knew it would show up. Very, very classic. I probably catch myself singing it once a week.

regardless hmm seems like none of you paid attention in the campaigning thread

I will cop to ignoring a lot of the campaigning, if only because I had way too many already beloved songs to deal with. I plan on doing a deep dive into everyone's recommendations once this is all over, though.

human/hutt hybrid (Old Lunch), Thursday, 18 May 2017 16:25 (six years ago) link

Holy shit, there is a real possibility that Smokey Robinson's Being With You, one of the best singles of the entire decade, misses the entire top 250. That would be insanity.

i voted for it and i think it's a shame it's not showing up :\

ToddBonzalez (BradNelson), Thursday, 18 May 2017 16:31 (six years ago) link

If only fewer people had voted for Culture Club!

insidious assymetrical weapons (Eric H.), Thursday, 18 May 2017 16:32 (six years ago) link

maybe it'll make a surprise top 10 showing? would honestly be stunned if it didn't make the top 250

dyl, Thursday, 18 May 2017 16:32 (six years ago) link

I voted both the Culture Club and Being With You in the top 25.

gospodin simmel, Thursday, 18 May 2017 16:33 (six years ago) link

Nothing would surprise me at this point.

insidious assymetrical weapons (Eric H.), Thursday, 18 May 2017 16:33 (six years ago) link

ILM underrates Smokey. To me he is the best of all the Motown acts.

kornrulez6969, Thursday, 18 May 2017 16:37 (six years ago) link

I prefer several other Smokey tunes. The production makes my crawl.

"Let's Groove" should have been top 5

sexualing healing (crüt), Thursday, 18 May 2017 16:46 (six years ago) link

Let's Groove is wallpaper at this point. Cruisin' got like three votes in the 70's poll so I doubt Being With You made it.

gospodin simmel, Thursday, 18 May 2017 16:47 (six years ago) link

Cruisin' got like three votes in the 70's poll

wow, heathens

ToddBonzalez (BradNelson), Thursday, 18 May 2017 16:50 (six years ago) link

Shannon was completely expected, as well. One or more MJ tracks and 'Feel For You' are sure things. Beyond that...who even knows.

human/hutt hybrid (Old Lunch), Thursday, 18 May 2017 16:52 (six years ago) link

Shannon was my number 1. What a song.

ArchCarrier, Thursday, 18 May 2017 16:52 (six years ago) link

whew a classic

dyl, Thursday, 18 May 2017 16:53 (six years ago) link

that Shannon video reminds of a time when video/record cover outfit coordination mattered

Dominique, Thursday, 18 May 2017 16:53 (six years ago) link

Yes that shannon is all time of its time and all time all times.

wtev, Thursday, 18 May 2017 16:57 (six years ago) link

God, how did I not vote for that one?!
