(btw "Atomic Dog" is going to be #1, right)

PJD PDJ DPJ (DJP), Thursday, 18 May 2017 14:17 (six years ago) link

I'll take any track off In Our Lifetime over it.

insidious assymetrical weapons (Eric H.), Thursday, 18 May 2017 14:18 (six years ago) link

Love the D-Train song. I love the album version which has the slow intro before bursting into life so much.

Oh man, yes. I really wish this had been the version I'd heard first. Such a great bait-n-switch.

insidious assymetrical weapons (Eric H.), Thursday, 18 May 2017 14:20 (six years ago) link

Atomic Dog already placed, so sadly won't be #1

Moodles, Thursday, 18 May 2017 14:21 (six years ago) link

I deeply love Marvin, but I don't have more than 'meh' feelings about 'Sexual Healing'.

human/hutt hybrid (Old Lunch), Thursday, 18 May 2017 14:21 (six years ago) link

xpost I dunno, man, the way this poll is going I wouldn't discount any possibility, up to and including a song coming in at multiple positions.

human/hutt hybrid (Old Lunch), Thursday, 18 May 2017 14:22 (six years ago) link

OK, first genuine bummer in the top 50 for me.

Yeah, sad it only made #15, my #1.

I'll take any track off In Our Lifetime over it.

Oh!

Dan Worsley, Thursday, 18 May 2017 14:23 (six years ago) link

"sexual healing" is fucking amazing, i was rooting for it to be no. 1

ToddBonzalez (BradNelson), Thursday, 18 May 2017 14:24 (six years ago) link

Meh, we all have our blind, sexless spots.

insidious assymetrical weapons (Eric H.), Thursday, 18 May 2017 14:28 (six years ago) link

I voted for most of these today, so good work ILM

Choco Blavatsky (seandalai), Thursday, 18 May 2017 14:31 (six years ago) link

my highest mj vote

ToddBonzalez (BradNelson), Thursday, 18 May 2017 14:34 (six years ago) link

My second-highest.

ArchCarrier, Thursday, 18 May 2017 14:35 (six years ago) link

Think it was my highest too

i know kore-eda (or something), Thursday, 18 May 2017 14:39 (six years ago) link

Toto!

"Human Nature" wasn't one of my 3 MJ picks, but it's luxe.

insidious assymetrical weapons (Eric H.), Thursday, 18 May 2017 14:53 (six years ago) link

So I guess, unsurprisingly, MJ will dominate the top 20? There's still 3 more tunes by him surely to come, maybe one more by The Jacksons too. Can't complain tho, all those songs are pure fire.

Tuomas, Thursday, 18 May 2017 14:58 (six years ago) link

There are several Thriller tracks I didn't vote for that will probably show up, yeah. Can't complain, though, as that's one of my absolute favorite albums of the '80s. It's just surprising to realize that there's so much love for 'The Girl is Mine'.

human/hutt hybrid (Old Lunch), Thursday, 18 May 2017 15:00 (six years ago) link

too low!

ToddBonzalez (BradNelson), Thursday, 18 May 2017 15:01 (six years ago) link

That song freaked me out as a kid once I found out what (who) it was about.

human/hutt hybrid (Old Lunch), Thursday, 18 May 2017 15:02 (six years ago) link

re: "nightshift": tears, every time.

ToddBonzalez (BradNelson), Thursday, 18 May 2017 15:02 (six years ago) link

I thought listening to it was going to summon ghosts or something.

human/hutt hybrid (Old Lunch), Thursday, 18 May 2017 15:03 (six years ago) link

Too low and you all know it.

gospodin simmel, Thursday, 18 May 2017 15:04 (six years ago) link

I don't, but I love it.

insidious assymetrical weapons (Eric H.), Thursday, 18 May 2017 15:05 (six years ago) link

'Night Shift' is a spiritual successor to this song from '65, in case y'all have never heard it before.

human/hutt hybrid (Old Lunch), Thursday, 18 May 2017 15:05 (six years ago) link

The "Talk to me so you can see what's going on" callback is the most poignant moment in recorded music

i know kore-eda (or something), Thursday, 18 May 2017 15:13 (six years ago) link

Love "Nightshift." Someone should poll the session drummers that play on all of these tracks.

I grew up (mostly) in SE PA, with no MTV, so I think I heard most of these songs on top 40 or on ... perhaps Power 99? The latter is certainly where I know I heard most rap back then.

Josh in Chicago, Thursday, 18 May 2017 15:19 (six years ago) link

I thought this might be a number one contender. Incredible song.

kitchen person, Thursday, 18 May 2017 15:26 (six years ago) link

Astonishingly high!

insidious assymetrical weapons (Eric H.), Thursday, 18 May 2017 15:27 (six years ago) link

yeah i didn't expect it to get this high and nearly forgot it hadn't placed already

ToddBonzalez (BradNelson), Thursday, 18 May 2017 15:28 (six years ago) link

"Human Nature" was the only MJ I voted for. My only Prince vote hasn't shown up, and almost certainly won't now.

mike t-diva, Thursday, 18 May 2017 15:29 (six years ago) link

Awesome, subdued piece of drama this song is, it deserves to be this high. Kind of a discrepancy between that single cover and the song's lyrical content, don't you think?

Tuomas, Thursday, 18 May 2017 15:31 (six years ago) link

I thought Teardrops would be top 10, that song has this weird universal appeal

i know kore-eda (or something), Thursday, 18 May 2017 15:38 (six years ago) link

twas ever thus with womack & womack

ToddBonzalez (BradNelson), Thursday, 18 May 2017 15:39 (six years ago) link

For a half second, I actually thought Satoshi Tomiie's "Tears" somehow nearly got into the top 10.

insidious assymetrical weapons (Eric H.), Thursday, 18 May 2017 15:47 (six years ago) link

otm

ToddBonzalez (BradNelson), Thursday, 18 May 2017 15:52 (six years ago) link

Perfection.

insidious assymetrical weapons (Eric H.), Thursday, 18 May 2017 15:53 (six years ago) link

My number 1 just misses the top 10

i know kore-eda (or something), Thursday, 18 May 2017 15:57 (six years ago) link

too low

gospodin simmel, Thursday, 18 May 2017 15:58 (six years ago) link

Chaka can't have 2 in the top 10 can she?

i know kore-eda (or something), Thursday, 18 May 2017 15:58 (six years ago) link

Am pretty sure she just has one left, and shame on ILM.

insidious assymetrical weapons (Eric H.), Thursday, 18 May 2017 15:59 (six years ago) link

The amount of downtempo quiet storm stuff in the top 20 or so makes the pain of "Sugar Free"s omission that much tougher.

insidious assymetrical weapons (Eric H.), Thursday, 18 May 2017 16:00 (six years ago) link

ok wow i'd never heard "teardrops" before and i'm upset i didn't know about it sooner

dyl, Thursday, 18 May 2017 16:02 (six years ago) link

Huh, I've never heard it either!

Josh in Chicago, Thursday, 18 May 2017 16:03 (six years ago) link

Wtfx2

i know kore-eda (or something), Thursday, 18 May 2017 16:03 (six years ago) link

also as a sidenote i am glad about the high but not #1-threatening placements for "when doves cry" and "sexual healing" which would have been eyeroll-inducingly obvious winners
