(btw "Atomic Dog" is going to be #1, right)

I'll take any track off In Our Lifetime over it.
― insidious assymetrical weapons (Eric H.), Thursday, 18 May 2017 14:18 (six years ago) link
Love the D-Train song. I love the album version which has the slow intro before bursting into life so much.
Oh man, yes. I really wish this had been the version I'd heard first. Such a great bait-n-switch.
― insidious assymetrical weapons (Eric H.), Thursday, 18 May 2017 14:20 (six years ago) link
Atomic Dog already placed, so sadly won't be #1
― Moodles, Thursday, 18 May 2017 14:21 (six years ago) link
I deeply love Marvin, but I don't have more than 'meh' feelings about 'Sexual Healing'.
― human/hutt hybrid (Old Lunch), Thursday, 18 May 2017 14:21 (six years ago) link
xpost I dunno, man, the way this poll is going I wouldn't discount any possibility, up to and including a song coming in at multiple positions.
― human/hutt hybrid (Old Lunch), Thursday, 18 May 2017 14:22 (six years ago) link
OK, first genuine bummer in the top 50 for me.
Yeah, sad it only made #15, my #1.
Oh!
― Dan Worsley, Thursday, 18 May 2017 14:23 (six years ago) link
"sexual healing" is fucking amazing, i was rooting for it to be no. 1
― ToddBonzalez (BradNelson), Thursday, 18 May 2017 14:24 (six years ago) link
Meh, we all have our blind, sexless spots.

"Human Nature" wasn't one of my 3 MJ picks, but it's luxe.
― insidious assymetrical weapons (Eric H.), Thursday, 18 May 2017 14:53 (six years ago) link
So I guess, unsurprisingly, MJ will dominate the top 20? There's still 3 more tunes by him surely to come, maybe one more by The Jacksons too. Can't complain tho, all those songs are pure fire.

There are several Thriller tracks I didn't vote for that will probably show up, yeah. Can't complain, though, as that's one of my absolute favorite albums of the '80s. It's just surprising to realize that there's so much love for 'The Girl is Mine'.

too low!
― ToddBonzalez (BradNelson), Thursday, 18 May 2017 15:01 (six years ago) link
That song freaked me out as a kid once I found out what (who) it was about.

'Night Shift' is a spiritual successor to this song from '65, in case y'all have never heard it before.

The "Talk to me so you can see what's going on" callback is the most poignant moment in recorded music

Love "Nightshift." Someone should poll the session drummers that play on all of these tracks.
I grew up (mostly) in SE PA, with no MTV, so I think I heard most of these songs on top 40 or on ... perhaps Power 99? The latter is certainly where I know I heard most rap back then.

"Human Nature" was the only MJ I voted for. My only Prince vote hasn't shown up, and almost certainly won't now.
― mike t-diva, Thursday, 18 May 2017 15:29 (six years ago) link
Awesome, subdued piece of drama this song is, it deserves to be this high. Kind of a discrepancy between that single cover and the song's lyrical content, don't you think?
― Tuomas, Thursday, 18 May 2017 15:31 (six years ago) link
I thought Teardrops would be top 10, that song has this weird universal appeal

The amount of downtempo quiet storm stuff in the top 20 or so makes the pain of "Sugar Free"s omission that much tougher.

also as a sidenote i am glad about the high but not #1-threatening placements for "when doves cry" and "sexual healing" which would have been eyeroll-inducingly obvious winners
