I'm perfectly aware of it, Tuomas. If I believed she didnt belong, then Imagination doesn't either.

Such a perfect pop song. My number 4.

Let's go!

The ne plus ultra of duets

I love the Zapp song (it was an unfortunate last-minute squeeze-out on my ballot) but I'm surprised to see it so high. I can only assume that Roger is still to come?

I'm starting to assess the likely no-shows from my ballot. I guess we aren't going to see Slave if they haven't shown up by this point? That's a shame.

there we are!

Indeed! Best ode to anal sex ever?

Tuomas, Wednesday, 17 May 2017 12:41 (six years ago) link

Awesome. She also had the best album covers.

LeRooLeRoo, Wednesday, 17 May 2017 12:43 (six years ago) link

xps MINNEAPOLIS!

insidious assymetrical weapons (Eric H.), Wednesday, 17 May 2017 12:56 (six years ago) link

Good start to the results today. I've been listening to Zapp and that first Roger album a lot recently. Great stuff.

So happy to finally see Grace Jones make it. I'm guessing if Pull Up To The Bumper is this high that means Slave To The Rhythm is the only other one that stands a chance of placing. I voted for My Jamaican Guy, Nipple To The Bottle and I'm Not Perfect as well as well.

Saturday Love is a wonderful song. Alexander and Cherrelle were on such a roll from 84-88.

I voted for Stomp

I should've.

insidious assymetrical weapons (Eric H.), Wednesday, 17 May 2017 13:31 (six years ago) link

I thought everybody was gonna take it to the top!

I also voted for 'Stomp'. As any decent person would.

When the rollout is complete someone should count up how many of these songs have been prominently sampled.

Josh in Chicago, Wednesday, 17 May 2017 14:08 (six years ago) link

Awesome! Candy is one of my favourite songs of all time. It was my number two. Such a joyful song with some of the best production I've ever heard. Great solos too. The whole album is a masterpiece.

kitchen person, Wednesday, 17 May 2017 14:10 (six years ago) link

Wow, I didn't expect any Cameo tune besides the obvious to make it this high, but "Candy" is great, so yay!

Tuomas, Wednesday, 17 May 2017 14:18 (six years ago) link

I thought She's Strange might be in with a shot too.

kitchen person, Wednesday, 17 May 2017 14:23 (six years ago) link

Candy is TOO LOW

PJD PDJ DPJ (DJP), Wednesday, 17 May 2017 14:31 (six years ago) link

Didn't She's Strange place already? That was my Cameo vote, as I decided to cut all big name artists in my ballot to one tune per act.

Tuomas, Wednesday, 17 May 2017 14:37 (six years ago) link

No, that was "Single Life", long ago at #245.

ArchCarrier, Wednesday, 17 May 2017 14:39 (six years ago) link

Ah, well I guess there's hope still. :)

Tuomas, Wednesday, 17 May 2017 14:40 (six years ago) link

Grace is magnificent. I think Nightclubbing carries my favourite production of anything ever.

The shard-borne beetle with his drowsy hums (Chinaski), Wednesday, 17 May 2017 14:43 (six years ago) link

most of my top twenty placing rn

"candy" is perfect, "escapade" was my no. 2

FAR TOO LOW and still Prince's most underrated single

^^^^^^^ this

insidious assymetrical weapons (Eric H.), Wednesday, 17 May 2017 15:22 (six years ago) link

That's a good point worth discussing. I'd say "Pop Life" is the least known and played of his top tens while "...Girlfriend" did shit on the pop chart but is loved by anyone who owns SOOT.

the Rain Man of nationalism. (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Wednesday, 17 May 2017 15:23 (six years ago) link

"Pop Life" pops up in unexpected spots.

insidious assymetrical weapons (Eric H.), Wednesday, 17 May 2017 15:30 (six years ago) link

yay!

!!! Yet another late cut from my ballot (one of the more painful). Truly shocked to see it place so high but because I thought it was somewhat obscure rather than because it's anything less than excellent.

Download this Man With Hamburder And Mug (Old Lunch), Wednesday, 17 May 2017 15:37 (six years ago) link

Actually, I think this may have been an accidental exclusion from my ballot. I don't really have an excuse otherwise.

u monster

ToddBonzalez (BradNelson), Wednesday, 17 May 2017 15:39 (six years ago) link

I voted for "Get Loose", but happy to see "I'm in Love" here. The King singles Kashif produced are all superb.

Tuomas, Wednesday, 17 May 2017 15:41 (six years ago) link

What a song!

kitchen person, Wednesday, 17 May 2017 15:56 (six years ago) link

unambiguously deserves to be here

PJD PDJ DPJ (DJP), Wednesday, 17 May 2017 16:02 (six years ago) link

I'm not a big fan of Crash but this and Love Is All That Matters are brilliant singles.

kitchen person, Wednesday, 17 May 2017 16:04 (six years ago) link

the 12" mix of "Love..." is one of Jam and Lewis' greatest recordings.

the Rain Man of nationalism. (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Wednesday, 17 May 2017 16:08 (six years ago) link

One of the few times when a singer's vocal failings help the song.

re "Human."

the Rain Man of nationalism. (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Wednesday, 17 May 2017 16:08 (six years ago) link

so many of my votes are placing in this stretch lol. i would agree that more than any other "if i was your girlfriend" is too low.

"human" is gorgeous, i could listen to it forever
