I only discovered "Oh Sheila" a few weeks before this poll started. It went straight to number 5 on my ballot.

Best use of timpani ever.

What a singer.

ta for the spotify Moodles.

piscesx, Tuesday, 16 May 2017 21:05 (six years ago) link

Definitely Wham's finest moment.

Great results today. I'm really shocked we haven't had any Grace Jones yet. Only one Cameo song seems surprising too. Hopefully they'll both have a few songs further up. I'm also wondering if I should now give up hope of The Rain placing?

kitchen person, Tuesday, 16 May 2017 21:06 (six years ago) link

Grace Jones sold few records in America and didn't get much play on R&B stations.

This has been a brilliant poll and roll out. And the fireworks are still tinder dry...

wtev, Tuesday, 16 May 2017 21:19 (six years ago) link

The Rain will place.

LeRooLeRoo, Tuesday, 16 May 2017 21:45 (six years ago) link

ta for the spotify Moodles

my pleasure, may be a bit slower updating over the next couple days as I will be in all-day meetings.

Moodles, Tuesday, 16 May 2017 21:46 (six years ago) link

Slave to the Rhythm will be in the top 10 surely? Yeah, great results today.

What does that have to do with this poll? A lot of us aren't Americans, and we're not voting based on chart placings.

Tuomas, Wednesday, 17 May 2017 05:04 (six years ago) link

I'm perfectly aware of it, Tuomas. If I believed she didnt belong, then Imagination doesn't either.

The ne plus ultra of duets

I love the Zapp song (it was an unfortunate last-minute squeeze-out on my ballot) but I'm surprised to see it so high. I can only assume that Roger is still to come?

I'm starting to assess the likely no-shows from my ballot. I guess we aren't going to see Slave if they haven't shown up by this point? That's a shame.

Tuomas, Wednesday, 17 May 2017 12:41 (six years ago) link

Awesome. She also had the best album covers.

LeRooLeRoo, Wednesday, 17 May 2017 12:43 (six years ago) link

xps MINNEAPOLIS!

insidious assymetrical weapons (Eric H.), Wednesday, 17 May 2017 12:56 (six years ago) link

Good start to the results today. I've been listening to Zapp and that first Roger album a lot recently. Great stuff.

So happy to finally see Grace Jones make it. I'm guessing if Pull Up To The Bumper is this high that means Slave To The Rhythm is the only other one that stands a chance of placing. I voted for My Jamaican Guy, Nipple To The Bottle and I'm Not Perfect as well as well.

Saturday Love is a wonderful song. Alexander and Cherrelle were on such a roll from 84-88.

kitchen person, Wednesday, 17 May 2017 13:24 (six years ago) link

I voted for Stomp

I should've.

insidious assymetrical weapons (Eric H.), Wednesday, 17 May 2017 13:31 (six years ago) link

I thought everybody was gonna take it to the top!

I also voted for 'Stomp'. As any decent person would.

When the rollout is complete someone should count up how many of these songs have been prominently sampled.

Josh in Chicago, Wednesday, 17 May 2017 14:08 (six years ago) link

Awesome! Candy is one of my favourite songs of all time. It was my number two. Such a joyful song with some of the best production I've ever heard. Great solos too. The whole album is a masterpiece.

kitchen person, Wednesday, 17 May 2017 14:10 (six years ago) link

Wow, I didn't expect any Cameo tune besides the obvious to make it this high, but "Candy" is great, so yay!

Tuomas, Wednesday, 17 May 2017 14:18 (six years ago) link

I thought She's Strange might be in with a shot too.

kitchen person, Wednesday, 17 May 2017 14:23 (six years ago) link

Candy is TOO LOW

PJD PDJ DPJ (DJP), Wednesday, 17 May 2017 14:31 (six years ago) link

Didn't She's Strange place already? That was my Cameo vote, as I decided to cut all big name artists in my ballot to one tune per act.
