My gf is Costa Rican, and without social media apps our relationship wouldn't have worked at all, so I don't agree with that.

social media apps make the people you should be closest to be less close to you, and the people you forgot existed from twenty years ago closer than they should be.

Also, for many people whose "closest" may judge them for one reason or other (such as gay or trans teens in oppressive environments), social media can be essential in establishing relations with people who don't.
