538's "Favorites to win the Finals" projection seems a bit off

Warriors 83%
Spurs 5%
Cavaliers 5%
Celtics 4%

frogbs, Thursday, 11 May 2017 16:57 (six years ago) link

agreed i put it something like

BOSTON CELTICS 500%

lag∞n, Thursday, 11 May 2017 16:58 (six years ago) link

xp maybe something to do with the cavs still not playing much defense?

Spottie, Thursday, 11 May 2017 17:01 (six years ago) link

it seems p close to me, what do ppl think it shd look like

lag∞n, Thursday, 11 May 2017 17:01 (six years ago) link

if the warriors are healthy i don't think the cavs have a chance

k3vin k., Thursday, 11 May 2017 17:07 (six years ago) link

id prob give the cavs most of the celtics points but something like

warriors 90%
cavs 5%
spurs 2%
rockets/wiz/celtics 1% each

lag∞n, Thursday, 11 May 2017 17:07 (six years ago) link

that said at this point anything >80% is preposterous imo, literally anything can happen. there's 2 rounds left to play. steph could get hurt. etc

k3vin k., Thursday, 11 May 2017 17:08 (six years ago) link

yeah injuries obvs the wildcard otherwise

warriors 97%
cavs 3%

lag∞n, Thursday, 11 May 2017 17:09 (six years ago) link

lagoon wang

k3vin k., Thursday, 11 May 2017 17:10 (six years ago) link

haha

lag∞n, Thursday, 11 May 2017 17:12 (six years ago) link

i'd give lebron like a 25% shot at minimum in any series

J0rdan S., Thursday, 11 May 2017 17:13 (six years ago) link

if bron can pull this one off i will worship him as a god

lag∞n, Thursday, 11 May 2017 17:14 (six years ago) link

even two years ago when his supporting cast was like delly and 5 guys over the age of 36 it seemed like he was going to beat the warriors! at least for like 3.5 games

J0rdan S., Thursday, 11 May 2017 17:14 (six years ago) link

and i hope he does i am praying for/to him

lag∞n, Thursday, 11 May 2017 17:14 (six years ago) link

but the warriors have kevin durant this year

lag∞n, Thursday, 11 May 2017 17:14 (six years ago) link

also the cavs cant play D

lag∞n, Thursday, 11 May 2017 17:15 (six years ago) link

if LeBron wins again i'll buy a pair of Lonzo Ball's kicks

nomar, Thursday, 11 May 2017 17:16 (six years ago) link

jordan otm

marcos, Thursday, 11 May 2017 17:17 (six years ago) link

if lebron wins again i will start referring to everyone i meet as "lebron"

lag∞n, Thursday, 11 May 2017 17:17 (six years ago) link

lebron has been in the past six finals and has won three of those finals

marcos, Thursday, 11 May 2017 17:18 (six years ago) link

this analysis seems incomplete

lag∞n, Thursday, 11 May 2017 17:18 (six years ago) link

lol

marcos, Thursday, 11 May 2017 17:19 (six years ago) link

if LeBron wins again i'll call everyone LeBron and ask everyone to call me David Blatt

nomar, Thursday, 11 May 2017 17:19 (six years ago) link

what ever happened to blatt btw i haven't thought of him in months

marcos, Thursday, 11 May 2017 17:19 (six years ago) link

seeing durant curse out the jazz mascot for no reason reminded me of bron's first year in miami when he was embracing the villain role all year and then basically had a mental breakdown in the finals vs the mavs

i tend to agree w/ "durant makes the warriors practically unbeatable" but if steph is shaky in the finals again and klay kinda disappears, we'll see how KD reacts to this specific sort of pressure being put on his shoulders

J0rdan S., Thursday, 11 May 2017 17:20 (six years ago) link

[injury caveat here] cavs prob have a better chance of getting swept or missing the finals than winning

lag∞n, Thursday, 11 May 2017 17:20 (six years ago) link

― J0rdan S., Thursday, May 11, 2017 1:14 PM (five minutes ago)

haha i made some good money on this series and tbh i was never worried. last year was different tho as steph was clearly not right and the cavs were healthier

k3vin k., Thursday, 11 May 2017 17:20 (six years ago) link

The 2017 Euroleague playoffs are upon us. The new 30-game regular season was very successful in terms of week-to-week entertainment, and it helped narrow the field from 16 teams to eight. Now, a best-of-five series and two single-elimination victories stand between one team and a Euroleague title. Last year, that team was CSKA Moscow, who swept Crvena Zvezda, and then won two absolute wars with Lokomotiv Kuban and Fenerbahce to capture their third Euroleague championship.

They’re back to try to make it four this year, but first, they’ll have to run through what should be a deeper playoff field than we had last season. CSKA comes in as the No. 2 seed, and they’ll have to face off with fellow 2016 Final Four participant Baskonia in the first round. Real Madrid usurped the Russians as the top seed, riding a 14-2 run into the playoffs. They get “Blatt BC,” as David Blatt’s Darussafaka Dogus squad snuck into the playoffs on the final day with a win over Crvena Zvezda.

just asked my friend who places bets with a bookie and he says warriors have been hovering at -400 to win the finals for a while, which i still think is way too steep. i might look at it if it doesn't move for the finals tho

k3vin k., Thursday, 11 May 2017 17:22 (six years ago) link

haha that dude was like fuck the nba im going back where im appreciated xp

lag∞n, Thursday, 11 May 2017 17:22 (six years ago) link

pretty much this

frogbs, Thursday, 11 May 2017 17:22 (six years ago) link

I'm seeing Warriors -300 on my book which scans as about right to me

frogbs, Thursday, 11 May 2017 17:23 (six years ago) link

i predict cavs beating celtics in 4

marcos, Thursday, 11 May 2017 17:23 (six years ago) link

don't really see cavs missing the finals

marcos, Thursday, 11 May 2017 17:24 (six years ago) link

nah theyll take a game prob

lag∞n, Thursday, 11 May 2017 17:24 (six years ago) link

im gonna exit this conversation cause its going to make me root for the warriors so ill be right and i dont want to

lag∞n, Thursday, 11 May 2017 17:24 (six years ago) link

looking forward to the Wizards/Rockets finals

nomar, Thursday, 11 May 2017 17:25 (six years ago) link

anyway imo ppl are underrating this warriors team cause they kinda coasted through the regular season, which tbh was prob a mistake considering they had to incorporate a new star, but their talent level is just insane, if thin

lag∞n, Thursday, 11 May 2017 17:26 (six years ago) link

there's a 0% chance of the cavs not making the fianls

J0rdan S., Thursday, 11 May 2017 17:26 (six years ago) link

in his new JVG pod, lowe was talking about how everyone thought initially that they had this huge hole at C, but javale, zaza and west have been legitimately good for them

J0rdan S., Thursday, 11 May 2017 17:27 (six years ago) link

it's such a good situation for our javale

k3vin k., Thursday, 11 May 2017 17:30 (six years ago) link

its not hard to be good when playing w the rest of those guys, like javale and zaz arent actually good theyre just always wide open, and it doesnt even matter cause if theyre in a close game they can just play the death lineup

lag∞n, Thursday, 11 May 2017 17:30 (six years ago) link

2 recent mvp winners, prob the dpoy, one of the best shooters, and a former allstar who still has a lil gas left, and theyre all at least good defenders, all except klay are very good passers, theyre unselfish and so forth

lag∞n, Thursday, 11 May 2017 17:31 (six years ago) link

things of that nature

k3vin k., Thursday, 11 May 2017 17:33 (six years ago) link

they def all look better than they would on a normal team, javale was basically out of the league. but they also are able to utilize his specific skill set (jumping extremely high) the best

J0rdan S., Thursday, 11 May 2017 17:35 (six years ago) link

this was basically exactly what jvg said. elite talent makes these role players look better than they are.

call all destroyer, Thursday, 11 May 2017 17:36 (six years ago) link

warriors took it to the final minutes of game 7 last year with no durant and injured curry, they're overwhelming favorites this year imo
