Vegas would be a terrible place to get too high.

Mouse study caveats and general skepticism about the way medicinal weed gets treated as a cure-all (or 'medicinal' at all), but as someone with a family history of Alzheimer's this is interesting: https://www.eurekalert.org/pub_releases/2017-05/uob-cra050817.php

this guy's obsessive irrational hatred of a plant is really fucking strange.

i can't tell if he wants more people in prison or just hates a plant or something else
it's bizarre

why not both?

these days anything is possible
here's another q -- i realize that noting incongruities in position is sort of out the window as far as this administration is concerned, but do they or don't they care about states' rights?

weird woman in a bar (La Lechera), Tuesday, 13 June 2017 14:22 (six years ago) link

they care about the red states rights to outlaw abortion and sell more guns .

sessions going after MM providers seems very stupid politically

marcos, Tuesday, 13 June 2017 15:56 (six years ago) link

MM is popular

marcos, Tuesday, 13 June 2017 15:56 (six years ago) link

Not sure that he'd even get much support from republicans for this

Moodles, Tuesday, 13 June 2017 15:58 (six years ago) link

The Rohrabacher Amendment barely passed the two sessions where it has with ~90% of Republicans voting against. The White House might be able to lean on enough of them to make it happen.

El Tuomasbot (milo z), Tuesday, 13 June 2017 16:14 (six years ago) link

warning, not a very political post...

my condition (crohn's) is on the list of MM qualifying diseases in NYC and I have kind of run out of conventional medicine options that don't have awful side effects, so I scheduled an appt with an MM registered doc for yesterday but then I cancelled it -- her fee for the initial evaluation/qualification appointment is 350 dollars and I know the cost of that first appointment is generally pretty high but I think can find someone more in the 150 range who's reputable.

Honestly I also can't really afford the monthly cost of $X hundreds that will ensue, but I hope I can figure it out (bright ideas: stop having a phone! Cancel my cable!). It's tempting to just go the illegal route tbh

or at night (Jon not Jon), Tuesday, 13 June 2017 16:19 (six years ago) link

in NYC it is possible to get delivery service with legit strains and concentrates so it's an option if you can find it.

toke up, Massachusetts

Gov. Charlie Baker today signed a bill that reshapes the state’s marijuana legalization law, kick-starting an 11-month sprint until pot shops can legally open statewide — during which officials will have to build an entire bureaucracy from the ground up.

Flanked by lawmakers key to crafting the legislation, Baker signed into law several changes to the ballot measure voters passed last November, including hiking the tax rate on sales from 12 percent to 20 percent. The state’s top leaders will now have to make several decisions, and quickly....

in the funny predicament of actually sort of dreading the legalization of cannabis in canada because it might mean i have to pay more/disrupt my supplier in some way. it's also pretty much decriminalized where i live and i smoke in public every day.

love to be solipsistic

two months pass...

"I think there are a lot of really right-wing old, white people out there who don't really know what's going on still. But once the kids grow up and get a chance to get into the voting booth, I think we'll see a change like we have in the few states that have legalized it. That could be a long way off, but in the meantime I don't think anybody's ever had any problems buying weed if they wanted it—whether it was legal or not—so it's a problem that one day may be solved, but right now it's not solved at all. Actually, a lot of people throw it on stage, so it's not that hard for me to get. [Laughs]

"I think there's a lot of things out there to be concerned about. So yeah, I'm concerned about it. And I'm hoping that more and more Americans will get concerned about it, because anytime you get even the hint that some foreign country might have anything to do with controlling our elections, well, that's very disturbing to me, and I think it should be to every American out there. But when I get out on the stage I don't bring in the politics. I don't care if you're a Baptist, a Methodist, a Muslim, or what the hell you are, as long as you like our music and you come to hear us, you won't hear me say anything bad about anybody. But if you ask me my personal opinion, well, I'll tell you what I think."

there many reasons why i think cannabis should legal, but let's be real one of the main ones is so i can just go down to the corner dispensary to buy it whenever i want

yeah it's so weird going to a legal states and walking into a store and then coming back NJ and texting my connect a day ahead of time to coordinate some BS transaction.

so many weed stores in my town now

I'm waiting for the market contraction, but it seems inexhaustible.

the one across the street from us has died down a bit, but they are still very busy. I hear that they have moved to reusable glass packaging instead of plastic, which is nice.

$100 ounces on special.

Well, it's finally gone and happened. Quebec has finally gone and fucked us. http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/montreal/quebec-marijuana-legislation-breakdown-faq-2017-1.4404947

2017: I live in a society where cannabis is effectively legal and has been that way for a long time. No spoilers, but the cannabis community in Canada is enormous, organized, and dedicated. I have absolute freedom to support whichever growers and distributors I choose, and I am also able to consider overall customer experience as a part of the product I am receiving.

Mid-2017: Ontario liberal government stacks "think of the children" legislation on their pot bill: http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/toronto/marijuana-sales-ontario-school-bus-cameras-safety-law-1.4403405

2018: Quebec police stop'n'search everyone everywhere based on new "driving high" laws, despite not understanding that effects of cannabis are harder to legislate than alcohol. Aggressive "roadside cannabis testing" targets marginalized communities in St-Henri, the east end, and Montréal-Nord. Stop and search also finds guns and other drugs because it constitutes a warrantless search. Quebec government's cannabis shops are only located in affluent areas, not open after 7pm (when people normally smoke cannabis) or after 5pm on Sundays. Quebec's cannabis distribution centres vont être fermés durant la période de la fête nationale... So on national holidays nobody will be able to buy any weed because the employees of the shops will have the day off to smoke weed. No one can grow cannabis. People suspected of growing are raided aggressively. Anyone with 151 grams of cannabis is imprisoned for life.

The war on drugs goes on. The liberal government used legalization as a tool to come to power and have ended up fucking us all by giving more power to provincial police forces and bureaucrats.

That's some fucking federalism right there
