Saw the CD in a local music emporium, thought it looked interesting but didn't know anything about the band. Went to work and streamed it on Spotify while looking up info on the band. On the band's Wiki page, this hit me as interesting

Segarra was raised by her aunt Nereida in the Bronx where she developed an early appreciation for doo-wop and Motown. She is of Puerto Rican descent. Segarra became a regular attendee of hardcore punk shows at ABC No Rio when she was young. She left her home in the Bronx at age 17, spending time crossing North America, hopping freight trains.
I like the record a lot. They sound exactly like what I would have hoped a band from New Orleans with a former underground punk rock/hardcore devotee from the Bronx singing would sound like.

It's the worst band name ever but I feel better about it knowing that they aren't the Glasgow Art School tweeists I'd assumed they were.

The album itself is amazing and feels necessary right now. Title track and Rican Beach especially.

I wanted to like the new album, but the rocking songs don't have enough power and passion, and the rhythmic ones don't have enough funky bottom.

I've never listened to these guys before, but I dig the new album. She's got a classic, very expressive, rock singer voice.

The final song, particularly when it switches to Spanish, is devastating.

The Colossus of Roads/Snake Plant/Alibi triple-single is the country(ish) sound we Minneapolishers(tonians?) need on a weird 50-degree-F day. Excited for her live show next month!

Really high on the new album. "Hawkmoon" and "Snake Plant" are vibrant, driving songs that feel like new heights for her. Fans of Waxahatchee will like how she blends 90s alternative and country rock sounds into something her own.

Have been listening to this nonstop since you recommended it in the Country thread, Indexed.

"Colossus of Roads" is my standout, but the album hits on everything - production atmosphere, lyrics, music, vocals. Really, really nice.
