A left podcast I've been getting into recently is The Dig with Daniel Denvir. Most recent ep with media critic Adam Johnson is excellent as was the one with Mark Blyth.

It's definitely on the more serious and less dirty end of the dirtbag left.
god i hate that fucking name. it sounds like a festival tent for teenagers

The Dig?
I think it just sounds a bit generic. Could be many things.

no i was referring to "the dirtbag left." i don't mind silly podcast names, but silly names for political movements? nahhh. i don't think it's really accurate, either. how are they dirtbags? it's just lazy. oh well they came up with it.
― flappy bird, Thursday, 4 May 2017 17:08 (six years ago) link
felix sounds like a total dirtbag tbh

these podcasts make me think every socialist is a lispy east coaster

dirtbag left feels very apropos to this socialist girl who has spent more time yelling at David Brooks than washing her hair this week

Def agree on the live episodes being excruciating as podcasts. The "most evil people from Harvard" episode was like a bad "intellectual" party game drawn out for way too long.
― the last famous person you were surprised to discover was actually (man alive), Friday, 5 May 2017 16:38 (six years ago) link
i thought the harvard episode was fine, the most recent one with the shining stuff was execrable in the main imo
― -_- (jim in vancouver), Friday, 5 May 2017 16:48 (six years ago) link
haven't listened to yesterday's episode yet but from description it's a series of reading series (lol) bits from times op-eds which is extremely my shit as far as chapo goes

I've really been enjoying seeing a generation of people turn on the NYTimes opned page. It was practically holy in my house and I only started to question it in my 20s.

was it ever good?
― flopson, Friday, 5 May 2017 17:37 (six years ago) link
No. But I think the internet throws into sharper relief how arbitrary (in terms of talent, though not politically) who gets these lucrative op ed gigs.
― the last famous person you were surprised to discover was actually (man alive), Friday, 5 May 2017 17:38 (six years ago) link
i was almost glad that douthat did the pro le pen op-ed because i knew chapo were going to cover it

Would it be worth it to have a thread on political podcasts? I consume a lot of them, and want a place to share good stuff

I think this is a p good thread to do that in but follow yr heart

During the Harvard ep I kept thinking "there's a decent chance one of their targets' kids or grandkids is in the audience."

anybody fuck with street fight? it's pretty unfocused and meandering and goofy but I dig it. it's sort of my go to when I'm all caught up on my main 4-5 pods. love those dudes' voices.

*Mike Rowe ep
None of the Street Fight eps caught my eye when I added them to Pocket Casts a few months ago but I'm always down for someone bashing Rowe. Fuck that guy.

I feel like there was a good episode of Street Fight about shoplifting and "self-check" cashiers. They're really in their wheelhouse when they talk stuff like that.

This is going to shock the younger people in the room, but there was a time, what, 15, 20 years ago? when brooks was actually a very good writer and sharp observer. having to scratch his chin and dribble out 800 words several times a week instead of writing long reported pieces totally destroyed him.
his books were probably never good but i've never read any of them so i'm not sure.

Started "Mike Rowe Makes You Want To Sweat" on Street Fight while walking around for a bit, it's a nice change of pace from Chapo - they're more relatable as just broke flyover dudes vs. the NY media people.

Good interview with Liza Featherstone:
Listening to The Dig (Liza Featherstone on the Fight Against Lean-In Feminism)The Women’s March on Washington sent a clear message that women would be at the lead in battling the right in the years to come. But it left unresolved significant divides that pervaded the 2016 primary campaign, as the many signs paying homage to Hillary Clinton made clear. Featherstone throws down Clinton's faux feminism, the Women's Strike, Bill de Blasio and more.https://www.blubrry.com/thedig/23474820/liza-featherstone-on-the-fight-against-lean-in-feminism/

felix is on the latest episode of a video game podcast called no cartridge talking about the metal gear solid series.
it's pretty hilarious that felix is never more passionate about a subject on any podcast I've heard him on than when he's talking about MGS, Les Miserables the musical, and, in a distant third, the GCC countries.
