Not even the debut does, IMO.

fine

well, at the risk of repeating myself once too often, track 5 of this album has imo a claim to be their best song and everyone needs to go back and hear it a few times until they agree

Loved Bloodsports but kicking off with Editors/'Real Life'-era Simple Minds stinker 'Barriers' makes it a 9 track album for me

PaulTMA, Friday, 28 April 2017 13:14 (six years ago) link

Nah, 'Barriers' is great, as is all of Bloodsports ... I would have had zero complaints if they'd put Bloodsports or Night Thoughts out in the late '90s. I'm really glad they reformed.

five months pass...

Fuck, this album is still so good.

Agreed. In America, it is (as always? ) like being in on a secret.

one year passes...

Bloodsports and Night Thoughts have both got me looking forward to what they do next. I'd love it if they carried on in the direction of Night Thoughts and went further down that route.

Ha, looks like I got my wish!

Although, I'm revisiting Night Thoughts after mostly reaching for The Blue Hour whenever I feel like listening to Suede, and I have to say that I still think this is the best of the three records they've released since they got back together, and I love the other two a lot. As far as reforming and putting out new music that's up there with their very best material goes, this band have really shown everyone how it's done.

I think The Blue Hour is the better record, slightly, but I Don't Know How To Reach You is still their best post-reformation song. Really heartening how good they've gotten again

Brett's been saying during press for The Blue Hour that he thinks that that record will be the most far out the reformed Suede will go, which suggests that a Bloodsports type of record will be next. I won't have a problem with that if the songs are good, though!

four months pass...

For some reason I'm in a Suede mood atm (maybe the autumn) and I've been revisiting/rediscovering some of their stuff.
As posted above, I liked this one initially but hadn't really dug deeper until now and... I reaaally like it !
It's very consistent, rich, catchy, with more depth than almost anything they've done post BB.
Actually, I think it's their best post BB album (which may not say much since I never really loved Coming Up, although I recongnize it's efficient and catchy, HM is a trainwreck, ANM is nice, never got into Bloodsports).
I've also listened to the Blue Hour (no thread for that one ?) which is also good and has a nice atmosphere but lacks in the songs department.

since you're in the mood, did you check out the alternate takes/mixes from head music being released? here's a good one:

Ah thanks but as I mentioned on the other Suede thread, I have tried again but HM is really not my thing !

I thought that was New Morning you didn't like? nobody does :P

The "Can't Get Enough" mix from 1998 sounds more like a Coming Up track to me
