I'd say he's pretty consistent throughout his career, I keep updating myself on his new stuff once every three years or so and he never really surprises. He's really good at ambient, enjoyable at dancefloor-oriented house/techno, boring-but-effective at the downtempo/pop stuff, and terrible at alternative rock/punk.

the album Ambient is way different from the long ambient releases — it's "ambient" in the early '90s ambient house sense. it's very clearly a Moby album but in this context his primitive/naive approach really works:

I have an iTunes playlist of Ambient and Little Idiot and various other tracks throughout his discography that resemble that material. I think that's where he's the strongest and I wish he had more stuff like that.

Still spin "I love to move in here" very regularly - excellent piece of pastiche house

In other news, his book left me feeling kind of gross.

these noisy moby albums are actually very enjoyable when you have a ton of crappy paperwork to deal with.
i have no interest in the book.
