Some of her opinions about music cracked me up, particularly what she said about her tape. It was, she said, “a song-by-song refutation of ‘Exile on Main Street.’”

it's a tiny banal example, but worth noting because he didn't choose to write "random person" -- to him, she was a weird woman in a bar who deserved a dismissive "mmhmm" even though she was witty, funny, smart, and talented

She's a grown up, and presumably doing just fine. She was terrible live, which probably hurt her career. I think Barbara Manning (who's also had a 50th birthday, but didn't get an ILM shout-out) talked at some points about the looks thing. It is what it is. I like some Liz Phair songs. I like more Barbara Manning songs. I wish them both the best.

And seriously, Jeremy Engle is one great song.

She was horrible live. There's no need to lie about that. Had a lot of good songs on album, used her looks for what they were, never really knew what to do in front of an audience. Revisionist history isn't helpful.

you're right, i'm totally "lying" about my fond memory of a concert from 14 years ago to try to dispute some sexist idiot on the internet

kinda weird to call an artist with a decade-plus of albums, at least one of which is considered a classic, "robbed of a career"
