i started using vinyl + 1200s almost exactly a year ago. i have put in about 500 hrs or so practicing and i still feel like i pretty much suck. but i want to post a document of my progress, both for my own reflective purposes and also to encourage anyone who's thinking of trying to learn. i think it's really worth it. i feel much more connected to what i'm doing and it's much more fun and exciting than when i was spinning digital. someday i hope to be as excellent as chewshabadoo, but until then ... nine tracks in 45 minutes, apologies for shaky mixes.

After a big hiatus of making mixes, I bought myself a Traktor Kontrol S4 and the Traktor Software. I feel like I still like playing vinyl a lot better, but I have no room to keep my decks set up, and can't justify buying new vinyl anymore anyway, so computer mixing it is. There is a ton to like about it though, I'm blown away how good the auto syncing is, all the fx are fun to play with, and the looping / live remixing on the fly stuff is fun. Still miss the feel of cueing up records and frantically flipping through my record box. New mixes to come soon as soon as I build up my MP3 collection.

remember when we tried to go see dj funk and they wouldn't let me in because of my stan smith tennis sneakers

I'm using 1200s with the s4 as the mixer so I can get the same effects as on a $1000 mixer and my digital friends can mix digital / also I use it to do my radio shows which are based on my cd collection, since yeah cdjs are like $1000 too

lol. only the shiniest of shoes for dj funk gigs. Yeah one of the reasons I went with the S4 is so I can hook up my decks to it once I get some space. Also some dude was selling a basically unused one for $300.00 Just moved to up to LA (Followed wife's career opportunity) and in a small apartment for a year. Once we settle down maybe we'll get a bigger place and I'll be allowed a rave cave.

I know we're both in our forties but we should go check out a restless nites party sometime, I would drive up for that

I mean lites down low not restless nites (same crew tho?)

Haven't posted anything here in awhile, mainly because I haven't mixed anything in awhile due to equipment frustrations. Recently broke down got a companion for my 1200 m3d, replacing a cheap Stanton T60 that didn't track for shit, especially on old 45s. The new-to-me 1200 could use a new tonearm assembly, but it's at least going and gets it done for now. Shoptalk!
