I did go to every opening day from 1983-1987 doe so there's that. I kind of enjoy it when they stink

calstars, Monday, 10 April 2017 21:32 (seven years ago) link

So this season should be right up my alley

calstars, Monday, 10 April 2017 21:35 (seven years ago) link

i don't think they're going to stink. and if they do, it will at least be in a they're-young-and-interesting way

lol
My reputation precedes me : )

calstars, Tuesday, 11 April 2017 22:22 (seven years ago) link

just occurred to me that c.c. is the only guy on the yankees with any kind of connection with "the dynasty" (apart from girardi)? i mean.. if pitching alongside andy pettite during jeter's declining days at short counts. i dunno why i thought that, just kinda weird. i guess i always thought there would be SOMEBODY there. i'll feel the same when pedroia leaves the sox i guess.

illegal economic migration (Tracer Hand), Tuesday, 11 April 2017 22:57 (seven years ago) link

Yeah I guess Girardi ... but it's time to put all that behind them

calstars, Tuesday, 11 April 2017 23:50 (seven years ago) link

Like when Oscar Gamble left

calstars, Tuesday, 11 April 2017 23:51 (seven years ago) link

brett gardner still lives

i'm not sure i'd put him in quite the same group, but he *was* their second-best player (7.3 bWAR!) in 2010. he's had a nice career

mookieproof, Wednesday, 12 April 2017 00:28 (seven years ago) link

"Chase Headley leads the team in average, Brett Gardner leads in steals, CC Sabathia leads in ERA and Michael Pineda leads in strikeouts. Love these young Yankees!"

My elderly dad got a chuckle out of this picture and since I showed it to him he keeps asking me how that huge guy for the Yanks is doing.

mookieproof, Thursday, 4 May 2017 12:55 (six years ago) link

@darenw
Aaron Judge's double in the 2nd was hit 119 MPH... 2nd hardest ball hit this year. Just behind his 119.4 MPH HR. He hits baseballs hard.

get back to us in July

Supercreditor (Dr Morbius), Tuesday, 9 May 2017 14:49 (six years ago) link

CC Sabathia is definitely a shadow of the former power pitcher he used to be but the guy has some guile. CC had one inning tonight where he totally came apart at the screws and gave up five runs, but somehow was able to regain control and then looked better than before he lost it. It wasn't enough, but he got through six which considering how gone he looked in the 2nd was kinda a sad impressive feat.

earlnash, Wednesday, 10 May 2017 03:04 (six years ago) link

He's at the "...goes out there and competes every fifth day"/"minimizes damage" stage

Andy K, Wednesday, 10 May 2017 21:24 (six years ago) link

managed to break the record in his final at bat!

mookieproof, Thursday, 17 August 2017 02:42 (six years ago) link

aroldis has been trash this year. after last year's playoff performance i was thinking the yanks signed him at precisely the wrong time (and the cubs got vv lucky that he didn't torpedo their season.)

nomar, Thursday, 17 August 2017 20:53 (six years ago) link

had the cubs lost game 7, the aroldis deal would look pretty bad. flags fly forever tho

mookieproof, Thursday, 17 August 2017 21:16 (six years ago) link

After today’s start, here is Jaime Garcia’s line with #Yankees through four starts:

19.2 IP, 13 ER, 22 H, 15 K, 13 BB (5.95 ERA)

so dumb. i love that it's framed as some kind of challenge to nunez's masculinity that he bunted instead of swinging away, because there's nothing more masculine than expecting someone else to take it easy on you when you're playing hurt

At least they finally have a good all-around shortstop.

ice cream social justice (Dr Morbius), Friday, 22 September 2017 19:58 (six years ago) link

I'm sure I'll never be able to afford actually sitting somewhere this would be a concern

calstars, Friday, 22 September 2017 21:45 (six years ago) link

Nice start by CC today. Verlander is obviously back on HOF track, and Sabathia may be too (still the shakier of the two). Plus he said this:
