I have to admit sometimes I get a little tired of their relentless "it's all so terrible" schtick. It's really no knock on their work, *anything* can get tiresome after nearly 100 episodes.

I think the guests are often more interesting than they are. They had this Irish woman on once who was making a lot of incisive points about the psychology of the alt right and they kept interrupting her to make cracks about how alt right guys live in their parents' basements

yeah, i remember that interview, i definitely wanted more of her and considerably less of them

i do appreciate angry matt rants, and think he's probably the "smartest"/has the most interesting commentary

a friend of mine (a very smart and funny guy himself!) thinks felix is hilarious, which i just do not understand, his schtick is rote and predictable, he has literally one joke and he tells it over and over again

xpost Agreed re: Matt's commentary. I really liked his thing a few episodes back about how for years fiction/popular culture/analysis prepared us for Trump but not what comes after.

i think Felix is hilarious, he's definitely the quickest. there's a classic radio chemistry between the three (and Virgil & Amber), it really does feel like lightning in a bottle, like the Stern show.

as far as their 'everything is terrible' schtick, well, it's no different than any other show or podcast about politics these days, whether it's late night talk shows, cable news, or other podcasts...

Felix has three go-to jokes and they're getting pretty old now. Eminem/Metal Gear/Stolen Valor, we get it.

Amber and Matt are my favorites, they don't have as much of a schtick.

no one ever cleared this up for global in this thread and that's totally hilarious to me. I think about it every time they make a family court joke

tbf he has five jokes he tells over and over again: family court, valor stealing, metal gear, beltway pundit, diarrhea

i know that Chapo is in many ways closely kin to Gawker (pareene guesting, Felix writes for deadspin, etc) but the other day on twitter max or adrian said that 'if gawker were founded today it would have to be a leftist shock jock comedy podcast' and i just wanted to tearfully slap 'em in the face screaming YOU TAKE THAT BACK

The only reason Chapo is as popular as it is is because it's filling a snark void since Peter Thiel decided Gawker shouldn't exist anymore.

and that's no shots at Chapo, but I certainly valued having one media presence that wasn't just lying to me and scamming me all day in the age of sites like Vice that are basically long cons on advertisers

i listened to (most of) the Pareene ep. They laugh a little too much at themselves, but it worked for Paul Lynde.

i also completely forgot who Gorka was; too many characters to keep track of in this admin, needs streamlining.
