isn't the beef not that the celts weren't guarding him hard but that the suns were purposefully lengthening the game to get him more possessions (i didn't watch)

J0rdan S., Thursday, 30 March 2017 05:00 (seven years ago) link

ya they took some fouls at the very end, it happened in some of the other big scoring games too apparently

russ 50-16-10 and the game winning 3. only 2 TOs.

broke Oscars trip dubs in a season record. idk what to think about this Russ year tbf.

Lebro v. Wade (Spottie), Monday, 10 April 2017 03:25 (seven years ago) link

its incredibly impressive and he's not the mvp.

nice cage (m bison), Monday, 10 April 2017 03:33 (seven years ago) link

that rebounding video from a week or so back left a weird taste in my mouth abt rwb this year tbh

Clay, Monday, 10 April 2017 03:41 (seven years ago) link

i mean i'm not quite at "this needs an asterisk!" level or anything but the numbers are inflated in a gross way imo

Clay, Monday, 10 April 2017 03:42 (seven years ago) link

what he's done is historic and also a bunch of stat padding. it just goes to show how talented he is and how down his teammates are to boost his ass like that. he should get all the teammates' names tatted on his back if he wins MVP.

nice cage (m bison), Monday, 10 April 2017 04:19 (seven years ago) link

like idk how much yall put into advanced stats, but here we go...

Win Shares (thru apr9 2017)
Harden (1st)
Kawhi (3rd)
Russ (5th)
Bron (6th)

Win Shares per 48 (thru apr9 2017)
KD (1st)
Kawhi (2nd)
Harden (5th)
Russ (10th)
Bron (11th)

altho...
Value over replacement player (thru apr9 2017)
Russ (1st by a long shot)
Harden (2nd)
Bron (3rd)
Kawhi (5th)
KD (10th)

but then...
Offensive Rating/Defensive Rating (thru apr9 2017)
Russ (112/104)
Harden (118/107)
Kawhi (121/101)

also
effective FG% (thru apr9 2017)
Kawhi .540
Harden .524
Westbrook .475

ok i think that's good. so basically russ put all the sliders on 100 to max out his stats and his team mostly benefited from it, but they're going to win less than 50 games. kawhi is playing more efficient offense although doing less on that end and is taking on a larger defensive role and leading a team to >60 wins. harden is having the best offensive season of the three (im judging off a combination of efficiency and productivity) and responsible for the most wins of all three.

to me the question is, is it harden or kawhi? but then again ive always hated russell so ymmv.

nice cage (m bison), Monday, 10 April 2017 04:33 (seven years ago) link

VORP is based on box plus-minus, which as the name implies is heavily derived from the box score. if we're giving russ credit for averaging a triple-double then giving him credit for leading in VORP/BPM is kind of redundant

you didn't mention real plus-minus, which CP3 leads B)

k3vin k., Monday, 10 April 2017 15:00 (seven years ago) link

the closest stats we have to baseball's WAR are probably WS and the WAR that's derived from RPM

k3vin k., Monday, 10 April 2017 15:02 (seven years ago) link

russ tbf is crushing PER too

k3vin k., Monday, 10 April 2017 15:02 (seven years ago) link

1 russ
2 harden
3 bron
4 cp3
500 kawhi

I think Javale had really bad on/off numbers for the first couple months so something really started rolling there

I think they love playing with him on the court. gives them that lob option. Opens up their interior passing.

Vince Carter, Jamal Crawford and Kyle Korver are all tied in career made threes at the end of the season: http://bkref.com/tiny/1foYu

Marjanovic has 2 of the top 75 PER seasons for any player who played over 200 minutes. The only other player on the list with less than 900 minutes is Michael Jordan.

Matt Armstrong, Sunday, 16 April 2017 01:41 (seven years ago) link

Vince Carter, Jamal Crawford and Kyle Korver are all tied

Unless Carter is ageless as he now seems to be, he is bound to fall back in this race.
