Suddenly, the surface erupted as the massive head and shoulders of a mature leopard seal, mouth gaping in expectation, crashed through the eggshell covering. It closed its powerful jaws about my right leg, and I fell backward, shocked and helpless in its vise-like grip. Feeling myself being dragged toward a watery grave, I locked my left crampon onto the opposing edge. I knew that once I was in the water, it would be all over."Help, help, Steve, Tim, help," I screamed repeatedly. It seemed an age before I finally caught sight of their running figures."Kick it, kick it, kick it, get the bloody thing off me, hurry, hurry for Christ's sake, you bastard, you bastard," I yelled hysterically, my gloved hands scrabbling fruitlessly for purchase on the smooth ice behind me as I strained against the seal's prodigious weight. For one tiny fraction of a second our eyes met. These were not the pleading eyes of a Weddell seal nor the shy glance of a crabeater seal—they were cold and evil with intent. What fear the seal must have recognized in my own during this brief moment of communication, I can only imagine."Bloody hell, it's a leopard seal," Steve shouted breathlessly as he leapt across the crack to attack the brute from the opposite side."Get the bloody thing off me, kick it, for Christ's sake," I screamed again."Aim for its eye, its eye," Tim shouted, his voice verging on panic."Bastard! Bastard! Bastard!" Steve chanted in rhythm to his swinging boot.

Idea was the sea lion come to the nearest man, that man he starts poundin' and hollerin' and sometimes that sea lion, he go away... but sometimes he wouldn't go away.

wish I had a video, there were two red-winged blackbirds outside the window at work (work in a suburb, there's a creek and some woods visible) and they must have had a nest nearby because a hawk was circling. they were dive-bombing the shit out of this hawk! so it's gliding back and forth and they're flapping their little wings off to get above and then diving claw-first into the hawk's back.

a friend at work used to commute home on the interstate, and a flock of Canada geese took off from a pond near the road just as a semi truck was passing by one day. the air vacuum caught the last goose, ripped it from the air, and slammed it to the ground in front of his car. he reluctantly glanced at the front when he arrived home and the only evidence was a goose head-shaped impression on his license plate

After Bloodbath, The National Zoo’s Naked Mole-Rats Finally Choose Their Queen
Queens sexually repress all the other females in the colony, as well as the males they don’t want to mate with, preventing them from going through puberty. The new colony transported to the National Zoo this summer was made up of 17 adult mole-rats. There are only 13 adults left. “Yeah, they’ve been fighting and killing each other,” Kearns says. “They have mole-rat wars to determine who’s going to be the queen or who’s going to breed with the queen. We’re hoping things will calm down a little bit now.”
