fuck all the friends. fuck dwayne, fuck roman, fuck jacob, fuck everything except killing people and occasionally tearing across the city listening to "the journey" or "vibe".

Chopper vs. Chopper on L&D multiplayer is so fucking awesome.

Your heartbeat soun like sasquatch feet (polyphonic), Saturday, 2 May 2009 08:08 (fourteen years ago) link

i find the l&d dlc to be much better than the main game - i've been playing all the gang missions and races long after completing it all, whereas i just couldn't be fussed with the extra bits on the main game. plus it just looks better, that gritty fuzzy effect on the screen. absolutely love it, is there a standalone thread for it or is this the only one? it really should be released for ps3 and pc, it's criminal that not everyone can play this.

does anyone have any details about the next episode? i hope it has a rollercoaster mission, i keep seeing it on the horizon and wishing and hoping something would happen on it

NI, Wednesday, 13 May 2009 14:15 (fourteen years ago) link

^^^ am glad to hear this, as i haven't really investigated it much beyond a few games of multiplayer, and am intending to invest some time upon it once i've shifted my current workload... not that i don't love GTA4 itself of course, especially since i've completed three leaf clover...

pen(istentiary) (stevie), Wednesday, 13 May 2009 15:01 (fourteen years ago) link

The only problem with chopper vs. chopper is that no one plays it. I sat around waiting for someone to show up but after 10 minutes no one did. Too bad; easily the best multiplayer mode if you don't want to work in concert with a bunch of juggalos.

Your heartbeat soun like sasquatch feet (polyphonic), Wednesday, 13 May 2009 16:05 (fourteen years ago) link

ive still not played multiplayer on this (or anything on xbox360). i don't really get what would be fun about playing people i've never met. i'm not even that fussed about playing my mates on there - this mindset will likely change completely once i try it out.

spent the last few days reading through this whole thread and i gotta disagree with everyone above saying this isn't as good as SA etc. i prefer gta4 in every possible way, loved playing it every step of the way. they couldn't really do yet another daft cartoony one, playing it (mostly) serious was the only smart move they could make for the series to progress.

i've borrowed the gta4 guide off a friend, so i can go through those extra hidden missions (the people waving you down at the side of the street, etc), just hoping they're still there once i've completed the main plot, does anyone know if they are? hope they do an extra book for the lost & damned stuff too, though im not sure there's any extra bonus stuff in that - are there no other l&d fans on here? it's AWESOME, seriously! really cannot wait for the next episode

(also, im not much of a pothead (used to be in the late 90s) but i ate some weed the other week and got pretty mashed, stumbling about head buzzing and freaking out, and the only thing that sorted me out was driving around in vehicle-view, listening to the journey, just checking out the sights, driving real carefully. made a bad whitey into a thing of joy and i'm actually looking forward to doing it again!)

gta4, turning bad drug experiences into good the world over

NI, Wednesday, 13 May 2009 19:48 (fourteen years ago) link

the Journey is great for turning every bizarre scene that happens because of this game's crazy AI into strangely moving art movie shit

I am downloading L&D now but it's taking ages; still only at like Ray Boccino on GTA4 after a year but I can only take so much of Nemanja Vidic engaging in bleak murders

was playing GTA Chinatown on wifey's DS at half time at Villa Park the other week and a cute little girl came up to me and peered over the screen to see what I was playiing just as I offloaded 14 bags of heroin for a massive amount of money. I don't think she understood but I felt dirty.

EMPIRE STATE HYMEN (MPx4A), Wednesday, 13 May 2009 19:59 (fourteen years ago) link

the production values for L&D are crazy good

shame about all that cookie monster shit playing in the clubhouse but I guess you can't have bike gang lamers listening to italo disco and R Kelly

I think there are just a couple more random characters for the expansion

EMPIRE STATE HYMEN (MPx4A), Thursday, 14 May 2009 11:11 (fourteen years ago) link

oh great thanks!

i had a quick go of the chinatown game on the ds before but i didnt get into it straight away, it's a ridiculous way to think but i kept comparing it to how incredible gta4 looked and played - i'd be best off thinking of it as a totally new kind of game i think. is it worth sticking with?

this thread has encouraged me to stick l&d back on after a few weeks away, still so so so good. i could do these gang wars and races all day and not get bored (never really got excited about the races in gta4). i can sense replaying the entire thing from the start soon - chomping at the bit waiting for the next ep. actually i might start with gta3, then vice city and SA. considering buying a ps3/2 one day to play the liberty/vice city stories (are these worth playing?)

not sure if anyone knows but does this new windows 7 allow you to play old games fullscreen on the in-built XP emulator thing? haven't really looked into it properly yet but i sure hope this is the case otherwise i imagine im fucked for playing the old gtas on this machine

NI, Thursday, 14 May 2009 15:18 (fourteen years ago) link

ha yeah every time i load up it's a mad rush to get him out of that damn clubhouse and away from the shitty music being blasted out, set him on a bike and stick The Vibe on

NI, Thursday, 14 May 2009 15:23 (fourteen years ago) link

Chinatown wars totally worth sticking with, and yes i know what you mean about comparing it to gta4. it can be a little frustrating wanting to look from a different view other than top down sometimes, maybe they should have built it on a different city map than gtaiv

the 'stories' games are pretty good, especially liberty city. it's more of the same gta3 but with obviously some neater coding. and the camera movements have been mended.
good thing with the Stories games, absolutely loads of secret missions and stuff to do.
i found VC stories a little buggy, but still pretty fine. also vehicles seem to explode way too quickly.

lol just as i speak, my walkman randomly plays Big Pun, "little did we know we riddled a man in little italy who didn't do diddly ..." frmo Liberty City Stories radio.

oh yeah Stories music is pretty good too.

Ant Attack.. (Ste), Thursday, 14 May 2009 15:42 (fourteen years ago) link

thanks ste, i'll definitely check out those Stories games one day. judging from your comments above, you seemed like one of the people most into GTA4, have you played L&D yet? if not you should see about borrowing an Xbox360 off someone to get it, i think you'd totally love it

NI, Thursday, 14 May 2009 16:25 (fourteen years ago) link

i know, i want a 360 for so many things too. it's going to happen i think

Ant Attack.. (Ste), Thursday, 14 May 2009 16:41 (fourteen years ago) link

GTA DS is uglier and more cramped than you're used to but is compulsive and has v. creative mission design

wow, sounds amazing. like people say on that link it'll likely lead to a lot of crappy cheap jokes for the jocks to snicker at but still, can't wait. bit more b/g info here: http://gta.wikia.com/wiki/Luis_Fernando_Lopez

are there plans for more DLC or is the final installment? and are they both xbox 360-only forever or will that change after a year or whatever?

NI, Wednesday, 27 May 2009 09:20 (fourteen years ago) link

I think M$ paid top dollar to make them xbox exclusive for all-time. it'd be pretty big news if this changed

zinguist (cozwn), Wednesday, 27 May 2009 09:50 (fourteen years ago) link

Gay Tony must surely involve shitloads more disco and house stuff on the radio

I hate how this game's attempts at satire have started basically amounting to people loudly shouting that they are stupid/rich/corrupt as if that doesn't kind of break the immersion

http://www.gamesradar.com/xbox360/grand-theft-auto-iv/preview/gta-iv-the-ballad-of-gay-tony-what-gr-editors-thought/a-200909111649481092/g-2006051014323586065

For the uninitiated, Ballad focuses on a new protagonist, Luis Lopez, bodyguard and business partner to nightclub baron “Gay” Tony Prince. As the richest of GTA IV’s three protagonists, Luis has access to better cars and better guns than Niko or Johnny, including Belgian P-90 assault rifles, C4 sticky bombs and rapid-fire auto-shotguns that fire explosive rounds. He also has more activities available to him, including a dancing minigame, randomly generated side missions at his club, BASE jumping from an assortment of buildings and the ability to replay any completed missions.

never had a problem with how GTAIV veered from the San Andreas template, but am stoked for this.

I don't get it, did I write something funny? (stevie), Thursday, 17 September 2009 09:01 (fourteen years ago) link

looks kinda vice city to me, which gets two thumbs up

did you already download TLAD stevie?

cozwn, Thursday, 17 September 2009 09:42 (fourteen years ago) link

I'm hoping the boxed verion of these two DLCs works the same way the fallout ones work.

JimD, Thursday, 17 September 2009 10:15 (fourteen years ago) link

install to HDD and then return to the shop for a refund? I don't think so, they work independently of the og GTAIV disc

cozwn, Thursday, 17 September 2009 10:22 (fourteen years ago) link

already have TLAD but only played a couple of missions before deciding that i shold finish the main story of GTAIV before really getting into it. on that count, well, i've still got the final mission to complete, but have had zero xbox time of late, though i did play a fair amount of TLAD online when it dropped, and the new weapons/helicopters/multiplayer options were pretty rad actually.

will probably jump into Gay Tony before TLAD, or play both parallel, i think...

cozwn, Thursday, 17 September 2009 10:39 (fourteen years ago) link

Surely there must be some kind of PERMANENT RECORD that I, reg delmot, downloaded these games and may do so again on another device subject to any and all EULA terms?

Still fucking pissed about my lost and gone forever GTA and GRID save games.

Great Scott! It's Molecular Man. (Ste), Tuesday, 22 September 2009 00:31 (fourteen years ago) link

TLAD was everything that was wrong about gta iv. do not want.

three weeks pass...

^^^ how is that so, bnw? I haven't played it, but I think L&D looks like a ruff-and-tumble grr I'm the boss game, and that was what the main jawn did well imo. What it flunks at are other aspects. And many others! But if this wasn't the Phantom Menace of video games I think it might catch a break here and here.

antexit, Wednesday, 14 October 2009 16:14 (fourteen years ago) link

Obviously I already said this upthread, but I could not disagree with bnw more on this matter.

Your heartbeat soun like sasquatch feet (polyphonic), Wednesday, 14 October 2009 16:55 (fourteen years ago) link

TLAD had a lamer storyline but it got a lot right that the OG got wrong -- heavy action from the get-go, more complex multi-step missions (iirc) and MORE DRIVING

amped for gay tony

goole, Wednesday, 14 October 2009 17:00 (fourteen years ago) link

Also, checkpoint saves.

Your heartbeat soun like sasquatch feet (polyphonic), Wednesday, 14 October 2009 17:02 (fourteen years ago) link

its possible that i gave up on it too early. it seemed way too talky and wrapped up in its bullshit angst and cutscenes that it refused to let you have fun. also the fact that i am supposed to ride my bike right behind some guy like i am his pocket bitch was really anti-gta imo.

bnw, Wednesday, 14 October 2009 17:04 (fourteen years ago) link

You gave up too early.

Your heartbeat soun like sasquatch feet (polyphonic), Wednesday, 14 October 2009 17:05 (fourteen years ago) link

i think you dudes have convinced me, i will give it another go this weekend

bnw, Friday, 16 October 2009 20:35 (fourteen years ago) link

I mean, you should at least get to the point where you are in charge of your own crew and not following anyone. Also, allow yourself to skip cutscenes if you hate them.
