flappy bird, Thursday, 23 March 2017 01:52 (seven years ago) link

it's great that media people are still good at being in media

also i was in an uber yesterday and i was subjected to a podcast recap of some youtube political pundit drama at sxsw and i wanted to claw my face off

maura, Thursday, 23 March 2017 02:05 (seven years ago) link

support yellow cab!

flappy bird, Thursday, 23 March 2017 02:32 (seven years ago) link

what kind of monster subjects their passengers to a podcast ffs

physicist and christian lambert dolphin (bizarro gazzara), Thursday, 23 March 2017 10:49 (seven years ago) link

p sure this is a war crime

The 'I love you guys' bit at the end went on too long. When they were bigging up Brendan I was like, 'yeah, if he was that good he would cut this segment way shorter'.

why labour 'foot problems' since 2015? (Bananaman Begins), Thursday, 23 March 2017 13:00 (seven years ago) link

the clip show idea was fine in itself but the delivery was dire - whenever these guys do skits i just feel like i'm listening to half-baked college radio. they're a lot more entertaining when they're just riffing amongst themselves

physicist and christian lambert dolphin (bizarro gazzara), Thursday, 23 March 2017 13:25 (seven years ago) link

yeah most of their scripted stuff is Not Good, thankfully they're too lazy to do it that much

a serious and fascinating fartist (Simon H.), Thursday, 23 March 2017 13:28 (seven years ago) link

the Joe Rogan bit was extremely undercooked, and their Vidal/Buckley impressions were just ok- i thought the Adam Curtis, post-election cheering, "zine," and Maron bits were great. earnest i love yous at the end was enough for a full year, i feel

flappy bird, Thursday, 23 March 2017 16:55 (seven years ago) link

I would be happy enough if every episode was reading series-style - one ep a week of cracking on a couple of stupid columns and articles, one ep on a book. They get side-tracked enough in those that you still get them riffing and talking about current events.

Kiarostami bag (milo z), Thursday, 23 March 2017 17:46 (seven years ago) link

the Caleb readings are so fucking good

flappy bird, Thursday, 23 March 2017 18:01 (seven years ago) link

i saw someone call chapo 'the penny arcade of the left' and i can't shake it now

ciderpress, Thursday, 23 March 2017 18:08 (seven years ago) link

enh, there's plenty of material to clown the chapo folks with but none of them seem nearly as damaged and bitter as the penny arcade dipshits

physicist and christian lambert dolphin (bizarro gazzara), Thursday, 23 March 2017 18:24 (seven years ago) link

oh god i just remembered penny arcade

flappy bird, Thursday, 23 March 2017 19:15 (seven years ago) link

Is anybody else on the Discord server? I've been enjoying it.

International House of Hot Takes (kingfish), Wednesday, 29 March 2017 06:03 (seven years ago) link

There's an interview with Will on monday's Majority Report. Don't worry, Sam Seder's not there.

duped and used by my worst Miss U (President Keyes), Thursday, 30 March 2017 12:55 (seven years ago) link

man, it takes 15 minutes to get past the ad drops and generic set-up in that Majority Report episode, brutal

The revolution will be advertised.

new premium ep was the best (and most substantial) in a while

a serious and fascinating fartist (Simon H.), Friday, 31 March 2017 11:21 (seven years ago) link

Agreed. More book episodes, plz

International House of Hot Takes (kingfish), Friday, 31 March 2017 15:43 (seven years ago) link

yep it was great, so was their discussion of Zack Snyder's 300

flappy bird, Friday, 31 March 2017 16:31 (seven years ago) link

More book episodes, plz

I think the general sweet spot is "bring in a guest who wrote something worth discussing"

a serious and fascinating fartist (Simon H.), Saturday, 1 April 2017 04:07 (seven years ago) link

The sweet spot is finding crazy right-wing articles and books and roasting the shit out of them, IMO.

Kiarostami bag (milo z), Saturday, 1 April 2017 04:11 (seven years ago) link

I prefer the lib roasting to the right-winger roasting tbh

a serious and fascinating fartist (Simon H.), Saturday, 1 April 2017 04:21 (seven years ago) link

I thought the JD Vance takedown was really good, not actually that funny but very smart and nuanced in its tackling of a target a little harder than the average nat review pundit.

That too

International House of Hot Takes (kingfish), Sunday, 2 April 2017 05:26 (seven years ago) link

can't wait for Jeet Heer's appearance

flappy bird, Sunday, 2 April 2017 22:33 (seven years ago) link

good ep, though they missed a good opportunity to dispel the Bernie bro tag by adding (rightly) that he would probably have bombed Syria too

a serious and fascinating fartist (Simon H.), Monday, 10 April 2017 03:07 (seven years ago) link

pareene sounds like a nerdy sylvester the cat

'it's is my life' - jon bovi (bizarro gazzara), Monday, 10 April 2017 09:02 (seven years ago) link

why wd they want to dispel the bernie bro tag?

why labour 'foot problems' since 2015? (Bananaman Begins), Monday, 10 April 2017 09:03 (seven years ago) link

adomian's gorka impersonation is a+ tho

'it's is my life' - jon bovi (bizarro gazzara), Monday, 10 April 2017 09:03 (seven years ago) link

Tim Heidecker and Adomian should do a podcast series in character as Alex Jones and Gorka. I'd give Patreon money for that.

Kiarostami bag (milo z), Monday, 10 April 2017 19:13 (seven years ago) link

I remember Adomian from his first appearance saying that he thought Bernie lost the primary due to DNC orchestrated voter suppression (which he claimed to have witnessed "first hand" while voting in L.A.) which I take to mean he had to wait in a line. His Zizek is great though.

remember the coin tosses in Iowa?

flappy bird, Monday, 10 April 2017 20:36 (seven years ago) link

Treeship, Monday, 10 April 2017 20:51 (seven years ago) link

the Pareene ep is a pretty good starting point

a serious and fascinating fartist (Simon H.), Monday, 10 April 2017 21:20 (seven years ago) link

They finally recorded Matt well for the first time in forever

International House of Hot Takes (kingfish), Monday, 10 April 2017 22:16 (seven years ago) link

Nice bit of synchronicity with Adomian's delivery of his last name and the place Pareene used to E-I-C at

International House of Hot Takes (kingfish), Monday, 10 April 2017 22:17 (seven years ago) link

They finally recorded Matt well for the first time in forever

I suspect he was in the room for a change, or he found a way to record his own fucking audio finally

a serious and fascinating fartist (Simon H.), Monday, 10 April 2017 23:05 (seven years ago) link

he was definitely in the room

flappy bird, Monday, 10 April 2017 23:25 (seven years ago) link

I had forgotten about the coin flips, there were lots of little stories like that that were spread around a lot.

they're doing a show in Brooklyn at end of the month but tix are gone

Supercreditor (Dr Morbius), Tuesday, 11 April 2017 19:23 (seven years ago) link

new one is so good. "he would bomb Berlin" "but to kill Oscar Schindler" "...does anyone know anything about the girl in the red dress?"

flappy bird, Tuesday, 11 April 2017 19:49 (seven years ago) link

i liked the line that trump is a president that jon stewart could actually take down, re: the 'president bannon' banter
