"Regulate" for me too.

Bit of a let-down after 1993's list. On first reading, I thought I was going to have to vote for 'Come On You Reds'. 'Regulate' and 'Streets of Philadelphia' are both good, but it's 'Let Me Be Your Fantasy' by a mile

god, that list brings back so many horrible memories, only half of them musical.

sad that the best song in that list predates all of the others by 25 years. louis by a long, long shot.

Voting for Louis is surely a hueg copout but on that logic you could say much the same re Dawn Penn I guess

I always thought of 1994 as a step in the right direction. The quality of albums in 1994 considered incredibly from what used to be before. But the singles list here isn't particularly impressive (not that the ones from 90-93 had impressed me either)

Heh, I remember that Stiltskin tune prompting much music press excitement when the ad appeared ("these could be the new smashing pumpkins!") - which faded quickly when they actually saw the guy

I have such fond memories of 1994 that even the worst song on this list seems okay to me, except D:Ream which is just cringeworthy now but for 1997 reasons.

There's a pretty huge gulf between No Good/Regulate/Baby D and everything else though. Went for No Good in the end.

well it does have that little "well alright watch out" vocal snippet in caribbean accent plus another similar one (could never make out the words)

Well, the song is OK, and Ray Wilson's voice fits better for that style than it ever did as a Genesis singer. But best of these 50? Oh no! :)

All 50 of them? Unless you only like really extreme avant garde stuff, noise or extreme metal, I cannot quite see how all 50 of these songs would be cringe-inducing

I was in college at this point, listening almost exclusively to indie rock, hip hop, and various British stuff so yr analysis is (shockingly!) once again completely wrong

I mean I guess I gotta give it to Regulate, altho I certainly didn't like it at the time.

I also find that this is not the strongest list of songs there is (as my original comment also indicates), but there is always something good in the hitlists. At least in the British ones, which are usually more musically eclectic than the Billboard ones (all AOR in 1980, all R&B today)

They just sound so.... dated. I know a huge number of chart hits never age particulary well, but this ones... There's too much ugly synth-work and rubbish production. Pretty sure that asides 'dawn penn' and 'louis armstrong' I would surely skip every single one of these after the 15 second mark... yet, those two sound completely out of place with the rest of the list... I wasn't even aware this were from 1994.

Amazing how much better nearly all this stuff is compared to the ~90 percent garbage of 89-92. Even some of the no-votes stuff like Real McCoy, Maxx, Enigma and The Grid is great.
