Jersey Shore worth it just for the um sex scene under the boardwalk

+ Charlie's beach romance night w the waitress

and drinking sunscreen

Sex scene is the sort of thing I was talking about. Of course they were going to see something like that, just telegraphed. Same with Mac and Frank adrift in the raft (which other show had this same gag, I'm racking my brain ...). Same with Dee's hair in the ride. And armed robbery and murder accessory ridiculous even for this show. I did like Charlie's arc, though by this show's standard of continuity... how could he have never seen the ocean, he was in Atlantic City the previous season.

But yeah, it had its moments, just didn't seem like it was trying at all. Better than Frank's Beauties by far, though.

Archer? Did that have him adrift at sea? No, "Review"!

Josh in Chicago, Monday, 13 March 2017 20:25 (seven years ago) link

Hah, beat me by seconds.

Josh in Chicago, Monday, 13 March 2017 20:25 (seven years ago) link

I didn't like Frank's Beauties, no argument there. I do agree Dee and Dennis' crime spree was a bit too OTT.

jersey shore is classic! RUMHAM

lag∞n, Monday, 13 March 2017 21:10 (seven years ago) link

came to post rum ham, not disappointed when I got to the bottom of the thread

mh 😏, Monday, 13 March 2017 21:50 (seven years ago) link

Rumham was a very Dumb Homer moment. But, like, even that - it's sort of sideways funny but all the effort to hide booze is just very ... yeah, dumb Homer. I mean, when they revealed the sunblock bottle ruse, I was just counting the seconds to Charlie drinking straight sunblock. When the guy came by the bar to regulate the child pageant, I was just counting the seconds till his reveal as a pedo. And so on.

I dunno, I like the show and I like the Gang (in a way), but now that I think of it, all three eps of season 7 push things a bit too far with lesser results, imo. Including lots of fake blood, now that I think of it. Dee's CGI hair wound, Frank's broken nose, Charlie jet-vomiting blood capsules, all a little too TV-world for me. And this is coming after weeks of binging on past seasons, which I've loved without exception, iirc.

Josh in Chicago, Monday, 13 March 2017 21:56 (seven years ago) link

(Obviously I am being nit-picky, the show is hilarious, just a weird lull I've hit.)

Josh in Chicago, Monday, 13 March 2017 21:59 (seven years ago) link

I haven't seen every episode, but Seasons 8 and 9 are pretty solid, so keep going!

just saw the final episode of S12 last night. wow, did not see that coming. appreciate them delving into real drama for a bit.

AdamVania (Adam Bruneau), Tuesday, 14 March 2017 14:50 (seven years ago) link

OK, season 7, episode 4, still a little stiff, though about as well executed a dead baby plot as it could be. And yet, strangely the fourth episode in a row with gross out blood gags, with Dee's bleeding eyes and the decomposed dog. Clearly someone got a bump in the fake blood budget. Wait, and the next one is "Frank's Brother?" Isn't that the consensus worst episode? Man, season 7, you're bringing me down.

Josh in Chicago, Tuesday, 14 March 2017 18:15 (seven years ago) link

haha I was just thinking about the Frank's Brother episode earlier. It's... not great, but the main gag is good. And there's no fake blood iirc. (There are a lot of wigs though)

Οὖτις, Tuesday, 14 March 2017 18:16 (seven years ago) link

Cool. Trying to put my finger on what is different this time around. All I can think of is the cast all having kids, which to be fair would explain a lot.

Josh in Chicago, Tuesday, 14 March 2017 18:39 (seven years ago) link

did I tell you about the time I met Charlie and the Waitress and their kid in a fancy resort pool

That's awesome. Think I saw The Waitress on an episode of Happy Endings. I played it cool.

Josh in Chicago, Tuesday, 14 March 2017 19:06 (seven years ago) link

Ok, Frank's Brother ... fine, as a dumb lark. But the storm episode is kind of a return to form. And then ... Cricket gets shot in the hand and starts pumping fake blood! What is it with all the blood this season?

Frank's Brother is the ep I don't ever rewatch (I also don't rewatch s1)

softie (silby), Tuesday, 14 March 2017 20:30 (seven years ago) link

OK, I thought S7 was pretty weak, but then I just hit a run of Chardee MacDennis, the Anti-Social Network and especially The Gang Gets Trapped, which were all hilarious.

Josh in Chicago, Thursday, 16 March 2017 17:03 (seven years ago) link

Chardee MacDennis

possibly my #1 favorite, although the Gang Dances Their Asses Off is a close contender

Οὖτις, Thursday, 16 March 2017 17:14 (seven years ago) link

The payoff with the whip and the vase in Get Trapped made me laugh. But in Chardee MacDennis, when they nail down the board because eventually Mac always forgets it's been nailed down and tries to flip it ("It's true, I will try to flip it" concedes Mac) ... Later in the episode, after all the lunacy, I had totally forgotten it had been nailed down myself, and when he tried to flip it I cracked up. I mean, after they nail it down and note why I thought to myself, OK, how are they going to make me forget it had been nailed down to make it a good payoff? And somehow they did it! Just slight of hand genius.

makes me sad to see folks crapping on "Frank's Little Beauties" upthread, I think that one's a classic. one of their better pre-credits scenes ("strange man...titty bar...business opportunity") and just in general I dig the whole loose vibe of the episode, the rest of the gang trying to pin everything on Frank ("face all busted to bits"), Frank's continual paranoia that he'll be accused of being a molester (particularly his little ditty about how "It's not OK to diddle kids"), the guys helping the one boy in the pageant (laser show + techno beats + "Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall" = comedic gold). Not to mention one of Dee's greatest lines - "Your mother is a dumb, shit-mouth bitch." Girl: "You just said a lot of bad words."

evol j, Friday, 17 March 2017 13:09 (seven years ago) link

Yeah I like that episode a lot. And that drum cover.

so i just browsed through netflix and i don't think i've seen a single episode since season 6

I loved Charlie puking fake blood all over that poor woman followed by franks line 'would you care for an egg in these trying times?'

It's always (sunny successor), Sunday, 19 March 2017 03:49 (seven years ago) link

I did like that it was because he ingested dozens of fake blood capsules and they made him sick.

Josh in Chicago, Sunday, 19 March 2017 04:04 (seven years ago) link

Οὖτις is OTM that Chardee Macdennis is the best episode. Love the sequel too. Least favourites are probably Being Frank and the Ponderosa Trial.

Carlotta's Portrait (Ross), Sunday, 19 March 2017 21:49 (seven years ago) link

six months pass...

I finally caught up with the 12th season and ... yeah, not feeling it. A lot felt off, like the actors all had better things to do, both literally and figuratively. It seemed like they were trying to fit in their scenes between other commitments (sometimes in a meta way, given Glenn's stint on "Fargo" and his character's Fargo-based double life), and a lot of the jokes felt particularly lazy (like the dildo bike, which was used not just in South Park but Burn After Reading as well, go figure) or really uncomfortable (like not once but twice using the graphic fantasy gunning down of a person - a child - of color for a cheap shock gag). There were some high points, but also a lot of awkward lows, and if the final episode were the final episode (apparently there will be at least 2 more seasons) I would be OK with that. But hey, 12 seasons, even with a few duds, is a pretty good run for any show.
