Lebro v. Wade (Spottie), Thursday, 9 March 2017 20:42 (seven years ago) link

big supporter of glockenspiels in guitar music but brand new eyes is the one for me.

(anklebiters is a pretty good lc! song)

devvvine, Thursday, 9 March 2017 20:42 (seven years ago) link

I will seriously hear every album itt but yes ty I like birds and music

an uptempo Pop/Hip Hop mentality (imago), Thursday, 9 March 2017 20:43 (seven years ago) link

refuse to believe Low Level Owl was made by humans

a serious and fascinating fartist (Simon H.), Thursday, 9 March 2017 20:43 (seven years ago) link

its sprawling and ambitious

Lebro v. Wade (Spottie), Thursday, 9 March 2017 20:45 (seven years ago) link

low level owl is maybe one of the weirdest products of the emo ecosystem--distant spacey flyover country jams

call all destroyer, Thursday, 9 March 2017 20:45 (seven years ago) link

I voted for both these Appleseed Cast albums but in reverse order :|

I want to change my display name (dan m), Thursday, 9 March 2017 20:46 (seven years ago) link

that was the APPLESEED CAST I voted for. I did not vote for any paramore funnily enough

Odysseus, Thursday, 9 March 2017 20:46 (seven years ago) link

it would have been my #1, had i voted. i caught them twice around that time in MO and they put on a great show.

Karl Malone, Thursday, 9 March 2017 20:46 (seven years ago) link

yeah when i saw them around the release of peregrine and they were so good. a wall of sound in a tiny venue

Lebro v. Wade (Spottie), Thursday, 9 March 2017 20:49 (seven years ago) link

they guy who drummed on the llo records was a beast btw

call all destroyer, Thursday, 9 March 2017 20:50 (seven years ago) link

the drums are like 70% of why i love it

Lebro v. Wade (Spottie), Thursday, 9 March 2017 20:52 (seven years ago) link

"Steps and Numbers" off of LLO1 is such a jam (bc of the drum part, lol!)

I want to change my display name (dan m), Thursday, 9 March 2017 20:53 (seven years ago) link

yeah that part is sick, i think i downloaded that track on napster or whatever i had at the time and that was enough for me to go buy the record

call all destroyer, Thursday, 9 March 2017 20:53 (seven years ago) link

love the recessed vox. the sound on llo is top notch i think ed rose is a great producer

Lebro v. Wade (Spottie), Thursday, 9 March 2017 20:54 (seven years ago) link

LLO makes me deeply sad in a very satisfying way, like being on a long train ride through rainy territory

a serious and fascinating fartist (Simon H.), Thursday, 9 March 2017 20:59 (seven years ago) link

TOO LOW level owl

I almost mentioned the drummer too! He was a beast musically and physically too. He looked like he spent all day tossing hay bales around a barn

Karl Malone, Thursday, 9 March 2017 21:00 (seven years ago) link

most of my ballot is getting extinguished in today's rollout

By far the best discovery in the nomination period, excellent album

ultros ultros-ghali, Thursday, 9 March 2017 21:01 (seven years ago) link

I um voted for Paramore

a serious and fascinating fartist (Simon H.), Thursday, 9 March 2017 21:03 (seven years ago) link

I have no idea what is still to come except maybe 2 or 3 things I voted for if im lucky

Odysseus, Thursday, 9 March 2017 21:04 (seven years ago) link

yet another incredible album I did not vote for and don't associate with emo

a serious and fascinating fartist (Simon H.), Thursday, 9 March 2017 21:04 (seven years ago) link

srsly one of my all time favorite albums but I didn't vote for it... why? not emo ;)

I want to change my display name (dan m), Thursday, 9 March 2017 21:04 (seven years ago) link

Think I voted for this too, on the strength of Luau being an all-time jam. Rest of the album isn't as good (I also like Sinews I think?) but yeah shit that one song is like I mean

...not emo though :)

an uptempo Pop/Hip Hop mentality (imago), Thursday, 9 March 2017 21:04 (seven years ago) link

I think DLJ is another of those bands that tons of people who were way into emo also listened to (esp people who went on to form emo bands)

Voted for DLJ, Paramore and both Appleseed Cast records, today's run has been great.

I wonder if I should put my name down for a Hardcore/Post-Hardcore/Math-Rock poll for 2021 or whenever the end of the queue will be

Odysseus, Thursday, 9 March 2017 21:10 (seven years ago) link

I'm really digging Dismemberment Plan's Change. Emergency & I is the only one I ever owned but I might like this better.

Drummer and production sound great. Vocals sound better.

Mordy, Thursday, 9 March 2017 21:16 (seven years ago) link

Yes, well deserving of the number 7 spot :)

nice

Lebro v. Wade (Spottie), Thursday, 9 March 2017 21:17 (seven years ago) link

Just catching up and wished I'd voted, now - kind of assumed I wouldn't have known enough to be objective. But, hell, SDRE are great and Jehu are transcendent (though I'm even mess sure of the parameters of the genre seeing them here).

The shard-borne beetle with his drowsy hums (Chinaski), Thursday, 9 March 2017 21:17 (seven years ago) link

yank crime is one of my five favorite records ever and i know it's firmly considered emo but it never really scanned as such to me. obv no complaints with it showing up here.

call all destroyer, Thursday, 9 March 2017 21:19 (seven years ago) link

i sing along to this album at least 4-6 times during the year. i know it word for word by heart. it's like the absolute height of "clever" emo lines. "If looks could really kill, then my profession would staring." "And these are the words you wish you wrote down / This is the way you wish your voice sounds / Handsome and smart / Oh, my tongue's the only muscle in my body that works harder than my heart." "We saw the western coast. / I saw the hospital. / Nurse the shoreline like a wound." -- and it's just packed w/ bangers back to front. i'm v in love with this album.

Mordy, Thursday, 9 March 2017 21:20 (seven years ago) link

"Call me a safe bet. / I'm betting I'm not."

Mordy, Thursday, 9 March 2017 21:21 (seven years ago) link

I didn't vote but always wanted to check out that Juno album on the strength of a great SPIN review, which compared it to Loveless and Tom Verlaine's Dreamtime (???) and said that it replaced the guitar hero with the guitar victim

SPIN was also how I'd heard of Rainer Maria; they really got behind a lot of this stuff back in the day

Also Drive Like Jehu: waaay lower than expected
