i like the other stuff but it doesn't do it for me like that record

Jupiter is a pretty definitive post-hardcore album in my opinion, literally a hardcore band that stopped playing hardcore and started playing something else. Braid sounded like a hardcore band on Frankie Welfare Boy Age 5, and by Frame and Canvas were following more pop tropes than anything.

That said, Jupiter is not emo and I wouldn't have voted for it.

I think I can define what /isn't/ emo better than what /is/.

Listening to that Crying album, it's v fun i dig it

This thread has inspired me to give Fall Out Boy another chance...the plan was to work my way through chronologically (skipping the first one), but From Under the Cork Tree was just not my thing at all so I gave up. Got to listen to about half of Infinity on High at work today and yeah this is way better.

i was at isis and piebald shows back in the day, those bands all knew each other b/c boston is small but NO ONE at the time would have called isis emo (or converge or cave in tbh)

i can't post while at work so i miss all these roll-outs. i also didn't get to listen to any album before this poll so my ballot was limited. in fact i only ranked a Top 10 but submitted a Top 25. not very emo i'm afraid. so if Bright Eyes has aged that badly i'm sorry. also Imago, i voted for A Story In White for my Aereogramme pick.

yes guitar, drums, vocalist. and i'm always impressed when these huge voices come out of these small singers.

Listening to Three Cheers, I didn't rank it high enough. Just consistent hooky rock energy.

The thing is, this does sound like a pop version of 90s Dischord/post-hardcore to me. "Screaming Infidelities" just makes me think of a male Jewel or some shit.

This thread has inspired me to give Fall Out Boy another chance.

These days more than ever I really feel Folie a Deux is their only consistently great album, though most of Save Rock and Roll is strong.

also I really hope she records a covers EP or something one day cause her covers are stunning (that I've heard, DCFC's "Photobooth" and Jawbreaker's "Accident Prone")

"Rejoice" is maybe the most shattering song I've ever heard. Also, a friend of mine works with profoundly at-risk youth and "Go Home" really struck a nerve.

Lol. I love Read Music/Speak Spanish, but this is my favourite Bright Eyes album by a mile and this was third on my ballot and forever in my heart. This was the first 'weird' emo album I ever owned and the fact that it took me so many more listens to get into and interpret just made it all the more rewarding.

So happy Julien Baker placed! Also, Desaparecidos is bound to place, and rightfully so imho. Lifted... indeed doesn't hold up well tbh.

Emoprog forever. My #2. Every track holds up. This album is all over the place in the best possible way.
