this album is so good

Mordy, Wednesday, 8 March 2017 21:30 (seven years ago) link

Anyway, this was my #2. Recency bias is so sweet yeah

an uptempo Pop/Hip Hop mentality (imago), Wednesday, 8 March 2017 21:30 (seven years ago) link

holy shit! I guess this means I shouldn't give up on other very recent albums huh

a serious and fascinating fartist (Simon H.), Wednesday, 8 March 2017 21:30 (seven years ago) link

and i agree they should be headlining this thing but i had no input into the booking

Mordy, Wednesday, 8 March 2017 21:30 (seven years ago) link

anyway, today results were fantastic but tmmrw is imo the best results of the entire thing (all entirely way TOO LOW) before rolling into the conclusion on friday

Mordy, Wednesday, 8 March 2017 21:31 (seven years ago) link

uh oh i'm gonna be sad about the too lows

the raindrops and drop tops of lived, earned experience (BradNelson), Wednesday, 8 March 2017 21:32 (seven years ago) link

the raindrops and drop tops of lived, earned experience (BradNelson), Wednesday, 8 March 2017 21:32 (seven years ago) link

this is such a great album to end the day on tho i just put it on and i'm so psyched about this show. that opening track is so epic.

Mordy, Wednesday, 8 March 2017 21:32 (seven years ago) link

btw Three Mile Pilot are indeed amazing

i love the dumb cover because it totally matches the weird euphoria of the record

I voted the opening track as my number one song of the year in the EOY poll. Have fun Mordy!

ArchCarrier, Wednesday, 8 March 2017 21:35 (seven years ago) link

an emo band named Crying... seems kind of meta

Guy Pidgeotto (Tom Violence), Wednesday, 8 March 2017 21:35 (seven years ago) link

one thing about no devolucion: i have no insight into the actual mastering process but given fridmann's history i think it might be so hotly mastered that it ended up producing a ton of negative space and weird auras around all of the instruments

the raindrops and drop tops of lived, earned experience (BradNelson), Wednesday, 8 March 2017 21:35 (seven years ago) link

xxp will do. wearing my dashboard t-shirt and a coheed hoodie <3 synchronicity!

Mordy, Wednesday, 8 March 2017 21:37 (seven years ago) link

also "turnpike gates" is the best thursday song ever

the raindrops and drop tops of lived, earned experience (BradNelson), Wednesday, 8 March 2017 21:37 (seven years ago) link

er "turnpike divides"

the raindrops and drop tops of lived, earned experience (BradNelson), Wednesday, 8 March 2017 21:38 (seven years ago) link

Emo 2 the core :)

ArchCarrier, Wednesday, 8 March 2017 21:38 (seven years ago) link

regardless imo all of the bright eyes records aged horribly

Cassadaga has help up way better than I would have expected.

Evan R, Wednesday, 8 March 2017 21:39 (seven years ago) link

i want to genre police so bad but whatever.

Lebro v. Wade (Spottie), Wednesday, 8 March 2017 22:00 (seven years ago) link

Can't imagine any other genre poll on ILX with quite so many "this isn't [genre we are polling]" comments

Evan R, Wednesday, 8 March 2017 22:08 (seven years ago) link

genre policing has been critical to emo since time immemorial

call all destroyer, Wednesday, 8 March 2017 22:10 (seven years ago) link

the one emo/pop-punk focused message board i post on is consumed by genre-policing arguments at least once every two weeks

the raindrops and drop tops of lived, earned experience (BradNelson), Wednesday, 8 March 2017 22:12 (seven years ago) link

imo by those standards we're doing great

the raindrops and drop tops of lived, earned experience (BradNelson), Wednesday, 8 March 2017 22:12 (seven years ago) link

There are... more music forums than ILM?

ArchCarrier, Wednesday, 8 March 2017 22:14 (seven years ago) link

don't investigate

*waves hands around* ~this is the only message board~

the raindrops and drop tops of lived, earned experience (BradNelson), Wednesday, 8 March 2017 22:15 (seven years ago) link

Fantastic, amazing message board.

ArchCarrier, Wednesday, 8 March 2017 22:16 (seven years ago) link

Anyway, checking out some of the albums I hadn't heard before but wow, The Ugly Organ is pretty good, isn't it?

ArchCarrier, Wednesday, 8 March 2017 22:17 (seven years ago) link

i guess i just didn't think some of these fringe inclusions would make it this high in the countdown.

Lebro v. Wade (Spottie), Wednesday, 8 March 2017 22:23 (seven years ago) link

I ignored the Crying album last year since I'm a miserable contrarian asshole who ignores records people go apeshit for because they underwhelm more often than not; this is quite sweet and endearingly dorky though.

For some reason people are comparing it to Dream Theater lol

― Evan R,

Metal poll has nothing on this poll.

Odysseus, Wednesday, 8 March 2017 22:27 (seven years ago) link

yeah metal would be the only thing that comes close. But this is metal if, like, 60% of the acts on that poll pushed back against being called metal

Evan R, Wednesday, 8 March 2017 22:29 (seven years ago) link

**VG Listening Update***

Sunny Day Real Estate - holy fuck it really is like Pearl Jam is the backing band, musical similarities are nuts. But not in a mimicking way.
Anyway: Love love LOVE. On first listen I def prefer Diary over Rising Tide

Fireside are great. Very enjoyable

I also dug back into older Jimmy Eat World (Static Prevails) yeah they def fit into this emo profile i'm building lol. Love this other dude's vocals, and the harmonies together b/w two singers blend so well

Yoni Loves Chocha (VegemiteGrrl), Wednesday, 8 March 2017 22:31 (seven years ago) link

too bad it literally never happens again in their discography
