Yup, it's a stellar album. Gospel is also very good, "I Was Born in the Dark" is a master class in songs under 150 seconds that nevertheless cram in a dozen musical twists xp

Don't think it even got nominated by Mama, I'm Swollen was a way underrated LP with like 4 knockout songs on it. My favorite post-Ugly Organ Cursive album

Evan R, Wednesday, 8 March 2017 20:15 (seven years ago) link

until very recently i preferred gospel. i go back and forth. fireworks were the first modern pop-punk band i really fell in love with xp

"even strangers are asking you / 'what the hell is wrong with him?'" on "one more creature dizzy with love" just kills me

the raindrops and drop tops of lived, earned experience (BradNelson), Wednesday, 8 March 2017 20:16 (seven years ago) link

I can't believe they didn't include a version of the title track, what a gorgeous song that is

a serious and fascinating fartist (Simon H.), Wednesday, 8 March 2017 20:17 (seven years ago) link

i programmed a version of the album where the title track is the opener. makes it a masterpiece imo lol

the raindrops and drop tops of lived, earned experience (BradNelson), Wednesday, 8 March 2017 20:18 (seven years ago) link

(i think potentially they wrote and recorded the title track after turning in the album. heard that somewhere)

the raindrops and drop tops of lived, earned experience (BradNelson), Wednesday, 8 March 2017 20:19 (seven years ago) link

damn, would have *killed* as the side 1 closer

anyway that's enough out of me re: a song that's not on an album that's not gonna place lol

Lebro v. Wade (Spottie), Wednesday, 8 March 2017 20:23 (seven years ago) link

Change is maybe like the 9th falsest thing to place so far!

a serious and fascinating fartist (Simon H.), Wednesday, 8 March 2017 20:25 (seven years ago) link

lol true i just like yelling about it

i appreciate the diversity in this poll but it's also super weird

the raindrops and drop tops of lived, earned experience (BradNelson), Wednesday, 8 March 2017 20:26 (seven years ago) link

I was soooo excited for this to come out and didn't really know what to make of most of it when it did. One of the first albums I can remember to just totally confound my expectations.

a serious and fascinating fartist (Simon H.), Wednesday, 8 March 2017 20:31 (seven years ago) link

I loved "Helena" so much! "Hang 'Em High" is one of my favourite deep cuts from Three Cheers.

i guess i would argue that it's wayyyyyyyyyyyyy too prog for this poll but it's also great so fine

Tbh, what I liked about what people were calling emo when I was first exposed to it was that it was like a new kind of prog rock.

My Body's Made of Crushed Little Evening Stars (Sund4r), Wednesday, 8 March 2017 20:33 (seven years ago) link

it's my fav d plan record

i feel this! that gospel record just seems to slip out of even my expansive emo venn diagram

I am on a national express, alone, achey and tired from another city I didn't need to go to; this thread is perfect for me. Thanks guys.

plums (a hoy hoy), Wednesday, 8 March 2017 20:33 (seven years ago) link

I couldn't not vote for this, one of my favourite albums of the '00s (and definitely a big part of my initial emo phase).

Gavin, Leeds, Wednesday, 8 March 2017 20:36 (seven years ago) link

"Sentimental Man" / "Face of the Earth" is one of the great opening salvos

uhh anyway this is another killer album I didn't actually vote for

One of you should do a hardcore/post-hardcore poll

Odysseus, Wednesday, 8 March 2017 20:37 (seven years ago) link

I voted for a different Dismemberment Plan album

Odysseus, Wednesday, 8 March 2017 20:38 (seven years ago) link

one of the more amusing inadvertently combined Spotify profiles

OK only just looked Gospel up and looooool.

Gavin, Leeds, Wednesday, 8 March 2017 20:39 (seven years ago) link

This was the original list of genres on the nomination topic:

Emo, screamo, pop-punk, skate punk, mallcore, post-hardcore, ska punk, psychobilly and Warped Tour music

a serious and fascinating fartist (Simon H.), Wednesday, 8 March 2017 20:44 (seven years ago) link

oh christ i hope less than jake still arent to come!

Odysseus, Wednesday, 8 March 2017 20:45 (seven years ago) link

i don't think any psychobilly records were nominated unfortunately

the raindrops and drop tops of lived, earned experience (BradNelson), Wednesday, 8 March 2017 20:45 (seven years ago) link

Hello Rockview was my #1 xpost

Guy Pidgeotto (Tom Violence), Wednesday, 8 March 2017 20:47 (seven years ago) link

pretty sure there are at least 3 reel big fish albums yet to place

Mordy, Wednesday, 8 March 2017 20:47 (seven years ago) link

god there are so many good joke #1 possibilities for this poll

a serious and fascinating fartist (Simon H.), Wednesday, 8 March 2017 20:48 (seven years ago) link

really didn't see the +44 album taking it

a serious and fascinating fartist (Simon H.), Wednesday, 8 March 2017 20:48 (seven years ago) link

you say that and yet i was thinking last night had the box car racer album been nominated i would've considered voting for it

the raindrops and drop tops of lived, earned experience (BradNelson), Wednesday, 8 March 2017 20:50 (seven years ago) link

#1 Emo album: The Amazing Royal Crowns s/t

Guy Pidgeotto (Tom Violence), Wednesday, 8 March 2017 20:54 (seven years ago) link

Avril is still to place..

Odysseus, Wednesday, 8 March 2017 20:54 (seven years ago) link

Okay, checking in again: I voted for no less than three Dismemberment Plan records. This is one of them. For some reason Change is a night time album for me, I've played this for years after coming home from the pub/shows. It's one of my favourite come-down records.

Marty8501 (Marty Innerlogic), Wednesday, 8 March 2017 20:55 (seven years ago) link

I can definitely hear that. Even in its relatively manic moments it has a zen quality.

a serious and fascinating fartist (Simon H.), Wednesday, 8 March 2017 20:56 (seven years ago) link

Yeah, whereas Emergency & I is the opposite of that, it's frenetic, nervous, yet danceable.

Marty8501 (Marty Innerlogic), Wednesday, 8 March 2017 20:59 (seven years ago) link

Not to mention ...Is Terrified

I voted for this

Odysseus, Wednesday, 8 March 2017 21:07 (seven years ago) link

And folks, I tried with My Chemical Romance (and some others sure to come) and... I just can't :(

I voted for a different Bright Eyes album

Marty8501 (Marty Innerlogic), Wednesday, 8 March 2017 21:07 (seven years ago) link

this is better than lifted but i assume lifted placed over it. regardless imo all of the bright eyes records aged horribly

the raindrops and drop tops of lived, earned experience (BradNelson), Wednesday, 8 March 2017 21:10 (seven years ago) link

I agree 100% (after relistening to them for this poll lol)

a serious and fascinating fartist (Simon H.), Wednesday, 8 March 2017 21:13 (seven years ago) link

In wish I could reverse the discography sizes of bright eyes and desaparecidos
