"Saw my baby boy, digging his own hole/keeping alive family tradition" makes me tear up every time.

"Well, when you fuck with emo, emo fucks with you."

this is funnier than any actual Hold Steady lyric

oh man that's gorgeous, the only competition I have is my Oh, Common Life starburst red vinyl (though that only ran me 10 bucks CAD lol)

a serious and fascinating fartist (Simon H.), Wednesday, 8 March 2017 19:32 (seven years ago) link

This probably only cost $10 + $10 shipping when it came out

I also have the 10" split with Kodan Armada and the live tape. Would love to get the 2nd tape but there's only 29 of them

Simon I just checked the original thread and you did nominate them. They somehow failed to get from that thread into the nomination list. I'm so sorry :(

Hey it's not emo without a little tragedy

a serious and fascinating fartist (Simon H.), Wednesday, 8 March 2017 19:39 (seven years ago) link

Definitely going to have to listen to Gospel.

the raindrops and drop tops of lived, earned experience (BradNelson), Wednesday, 8 March 2017 19:43 (seven years ago) link

it came out the same year as let england shake and i always associate them with each other bc they're both ghostly reinventions

...I completely forgot to vote for this it turns out, thankfully it did fine without me

literally dropped everything I was doing to go play this after reading this. I don't even recall reading/hearing anything about this album

Evan R, Wednesday, 8 March 2017 19:53 (seven years ago) link

they sound absolutely nothing alike but I can see how someone would associate their ~vibes~

a serious and fascinating fartist (Simon H.), Wednesday, 8 March 2017 19:54 (seven years ago) link

10 minutes in and I'm getting Leaves Turn Inside You vibes more than anything, which, well fuck yeah bring it

Evan R, Wednesday, 8 March 2017 19:56 (seven years ago) link

So far this is my favorite of the albums I discovered as a result of this poll.

finally listening to the Gospel album and it's incredible (tho I concur with the "not emo" diagnosis)

a serious and fascinating fartist (Simon H.), Wednesday, 8 March 2017 19:58 (seven years ago) link

It's screamo though

Mordy, Wednesday, 8 March 2017 20:03 (seven years ago) link

one of my faves

Mordy, Wednesday, 8 March 2017 20:03 (seven years ago) link

i've always thought the ugly organ was pretty uneven compared to domestica but the first five or so tracks are all fire

the raindrops and drop tops of lived, earned experience (BradNelson), Wednesday, 8 March 2017 20:04 (seven years ago) link

Great album, look for it in the local discount bin

I still don't understand this genre that encompasses both a pedro the lion album and jimmy eat world

I have The Ugly Organ on CD and im sure its more grey than green on the cover

did anyone else do a "where's tim" scan of the accompanying art after hearing "I'm hiding in the leaves / in the CD jacket sleeve"

a serious and fascinating fartist (Simon H.), Wednesday, 8 March 2017 20:06 (seven years ago) link

no but we'll be doing a few "WHERE'S JIM" scans over the next couple days

cwkiii, Wednesday, 8 March 2017 20:09 (seven years ago) link

oh common life is not going to place bc it disappeared from the noms but i would really like to isolate it as a record on which a pretty trad pop-punk band stretched out a lot and ended up making a really resonant album about death and trauma, and i've found i grow closer to it as i get older. i also think they're a pretty incomparable band lyrically

the raindrops and drop tops of lived, earned experience (BradNelson), Wednesday, 8 March 2017 20:12 (seven years ago) link

is there going to be any more blink 182?

gr8080, Wednesday, 8 March 2017 20:13 (seven years ago) link

Yup, it's a stellar album. Gospel is also very good, "I Was Born in the Dark" is a master class in songs under 150 seconds that nevertheless cram in a dozen musical twists xp
